Toyota sheeple will love it. The rest of us will just defer on getting Lasix so we don't have to see it clearly.

You're not the only one saying it, by any means. This is just a huge déjà vu for Lincoln at the New York show. Last year they debuted the Continental concept. It had whiz-bang autoshow stuff, they were initially coy about the underpinnings, it had derivitive styling, and as it made its way to production the skeptics began getting louder. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The Land Rover Navigator that may or may not be aluminum is slated to be built in Crazytown.

Sad Max: Australian Police Reject Mustang As Falcon Replacement
El Kabong replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
I'm just quoting the source. It's legit enough that Jalopnik has linked to it as well. Which may or may not be a good thing depending on your opinion of Jalopnik, but I digress. If I were to guess I'd say that Ford submitted the car thinking it wouldn't need a police package to compete. Either that or the NSW coppers just took it on themselves to evaluate the thing. Given Ford's recent turn to fleet sales though, I'm guessing option 1. -
Sad Max: Australian Police Reject Mustang As Falcon Replacement
El Kabong replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
Police work in a hot climate, I suppose. The Falcon and Commodore were built for it. -
"While the Mustang passed a brake test at the police driving academy in Goulburn, the car’s automatic transmission, which is a requirement for police vehicles, overheated after just three minutes of intense driving. "The car was then forced into a 'limp home mode' and taken to a local Ford dealership for repairs." Guess the fluid coolers are optional. Again. It's not even the engines that are putting me off. What worries me is the Italians using NA operations as a cash cow for much longer.

Surreal: It is, but it kinda ain't. It's absolutely necessary for their next generation of bigger, RWD stuff. And as long as gas prices stay low then that's a really lucrative segment. But they do need help with smaller, FWD cars. Fiat ain't cutting it and there's a big gap between the 500 and the Chrysler 200 in any event. Expanding the strategic partnership with Mazda beyond the Miata would be the preferred route, with the long-term goal of freezing out the Italians entirely.

That fun moment when someone says "you don't know what you're talking about!" and you provide hard evidence that you actually do.
-
The problem is that this car has been hyped by them to so long that it will be an afterthought if and when it actually gets here. I don't know about that. If the QF version is able to back up it's Ring times, it will be noticed. But it won't have a long leash-if it ain't a good CAR, it'll be found out in a hurry.

Well, regardless of how you think it looks (I like it), there's little denying that this is THE most important product move that Sergio will make for Mopar. If it turns out to be the real deal as a car and they spread it through the lineup quickly, FCA lives to fight another day. If not...

Also, Callaway just announced a SC740 Camaro. So there's THAT
-
"Thanks to the 32-percent larger supercharger rotor pack displacement and electronic management programming, the 2017 Callaway Camaro SC740 bumps the Camaro ZL1’s power from 640 hp to an estimated 740 hp. A new hood allows the larger supercharger housing and intercooler system to peek through the muscle car’s engine bay. The Callaway Camaro SC740 is available with the six-speed manual or the ZL1’s new 10-speed automatic transmission. "Callaway says the new Camaro SC740 makes more power than any other domestic sports coupe including the stock 640-hp 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, 670-hp Ford Mustang Roush Stage 3, and 707-hp Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat." And to be honest, the Camaro isn't the penalty box it's made out to be. If it was it wouldn't have been the sales monster it was during the Zeta era, when the sight lines were actually worse than the Alpha.
-
Ok, we'll axe both Camaros and make sure the CT6 and Canyon have sunroofs.
-
ZL1. Too agile, probably just as quick, possibly cheaper, and I know I can fit and see out of it.

Alrighty. Now we're talking. 1) Ferrari F40 (2.9L) 2) Ferrari 288 GTO (2.8L) 3) Porsche 959 (2.85L) 4) Cadillac CT6 2.0T (2.0L) 5) GMC Canyon Duramax (2.8L diesel) 6) Chevrolet Camaro 2.0T coupe 7) Chevrolet Caamro 2.0T droptop

Benz always had pretty big honkin' V8s. They used to power the big 600 Grossers and Pullmans. The V12s came along around '91 or '92 if memory serves. In those far-flung days nobody really cared that much about FE in high-rolling cars. What they cared about was power and speed and fancy interiors and fit and finish. And while I loves me some Fleetwoods, it was no more an S-class fighter than a Big Mac was a substitute for Kobe beef. You just had to make sure, then as now, that you bought new because if not the electronics were gonna break you.

What Would Buy Instead- GS350 F Sport Edition
El Kabong replied to Frisky Dingo's topic in The Lounge
Hmmm. Lotsa ways you could go with this one. But given that Lexus doesn't have a ton of sporting cred I'll stick with the mellow end of the range and go with some variant of the CT6 with the TTV6. Hey, maybe even go for a 3.6 version with the fancy back seats (I don't think you can do both for under 67 large). -
Buick News: Buick Not Sending Avista Concept To Production
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
I guess that if you made an Avenir coupe it might get cross-shopped with the ATS and Camaro. But they already had a Plan B: a four-door coupe that would be a layout unique to Buick. It would use an existing chassis and drivelines, and it could go down the Lansing Grand River assembly line like any other Alpha. For me, this decision is a forehead-slapper.- 17 replies

Chevrolet News:Chevrolet Turns the Wick Up On the 2017 Camaro ZL1

Pretty sure that FordCosworth was backing wings. Certainly he is where wings currently posts, and where he used to post before it got shut down. Remarkably consistent. At what I have no idea.- 28 replies

Chevrolet News:Chevrolet Turns the Wick Up On the 2017 Camaro ZL1
El Kabong replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
The power to weight numbers seem promising, as does the wider rubber out back and the extra gear ratios with the automatic. In a straight line it'll be pretty close. The moment you encounter a bend though, it's all over. The Hellcat still has its charms with practicality, and it's interior remains a nice place to be. But if MT's price estimate of 60 grand is correct then the Camaro is the bigger bargain of the two as well.- 28 replies

There's no doubt that Prime Minister Justin ain't too... good, but I've seen the election coverage down that way. Trump is Ronald Reagan, only without the smile and good humor, Clinton is Clinton, Sanders is a love child of Hugo Chavez and Larry David, and Ted Cruz is Canadian already. We're good, thanks.
