Car and Driver 10Best Cars: Chevrolet Camaro
Suaviloquent replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
Hahaha Just saying.. Make something unique that will just eat everything from Eurpoe for the next decade+. Like a mix of a Veyron/LaFerrari/P1/918 but with the resources from two major companies who already have some fun stuff. I mean Chevy has one BADASS Z06 and Ford is coming out with their GT. Could you imagine if they put those two technologies together..First off, we'd be talking about a twin turbo Ecoboost pushrod lol I'm talkin' continental rivalry here not just within our borders. No no no no no. That last thing American automakers want is more overlap, more brands. GM and Ford have learned their lessons and a potential merger at this point is just impossible. There is no way they could reconcile spending so much money to differentiate them selves. They've gone their own routes, and we won't see much extensive redesigns from Ford until D6 comes along. While GM is rapidly launching thorough redesigns. The Z06 already is defeating Europeans. And from the looks alone, the GT is sure to be vaunted. I like the thought of speculation, but in this case, it's just not possible. Ford and GM have totally different priorities right now. For example, Ford's right now having to contend with keeping the cash cow running, while GM is on an aggressive schedule to release new product. And they're doubling down on money to do so. Ford has to get around to fixing key areas. D6 will have to bring massive weight reduction that the Omega, Aplha, Delta, Epsilon and Chi platforms are already bringing. Then totally looking at their EcoBoost branding. It's totally irrelevant now to call their engines EcoBoost, because it refers to DI and turbos. Technology which has diffused everywhere. Where's the differentiation in that? Superflous marketing. Even the continental rivals rarely consider working together. It's because they know what the score is. -
LA Auto Show: 2017 Fiat 124 Spider: Comments

Where's the market for this vehicle? That's the issue. So many niche vehicles Fiat is making thus far. Where's the meat? I mean delaying vital products for pipe dreams isn't cool. Okay maybe the Giulia was all worth it. But they gotta do some major product crashing for the Giulia. Get it here ASAP to drive attention back to FCA US.- 20 replies

LA Auto Show: 2017 Mazda CX-9: Comments
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
And the best part is that they can sell their niche market engineering work to others who can't spare the resources to do so. Mazda's just on a roll. That diesel probably won't be here in time for any current product. They're having a lot of trouble meeting regulations and also justifying the certification of the engines. Also, I think I read somewhere that it was Mazda and then Honda that first commented on how they were baffled by how VW (before dieselgate) was able to certify its diesels that didn't have exhaust after treatment. So Mazda is also trying to go the route of a NoX trap instead of exhaust after treatment and it's exceedingly difficult.- 17 replies

LA Auto Show: 2017 Fiat 124 Spider: Comments
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
I think it's really interesting. Mazda does so well with engineering products. The entire brand exists because of its market niche. Which means they can effectively sell the underpinnings of their vehicles to other manufacturers without any fear really of true, direct competition. Niche engineering, sell it to the big boys, profit.- 20 replies

LA Auto Show: 2017 Mazda CX-9: Comments
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
It looks like the future. And the thing is, it's probably got some of the most conservative styling from all of Japan. It's the Cadillac CT6 of mid-size crossovers. Or maybe the CT6 is the Mazda of full-size sedans? I digress. Excellence of execution, brought to you by Mazda.- 17 replies

It gives you more, and a better car for less money. I was concerned from the price announcements that they weren't going to have a luxury price spread from standard engine upgrade trims and fully loaded trims levels. Refreshing to see that Cadillac did actually set expectations to reality. This car is excellent. Everyone here (this forum) would want a top-shelf model, and I want Cadillac to convert buyers. You definitely get what you pay for, and by that I mean you get less lard, more power and more all-around excellence. And, it's imported from Detroit.

Mixed on this. The interior is a winner. The exterior, I'd have to see it in person.- 104 replies

Uh, well atleast it doesn't look any worse, to me that is. I like the way it looks, but if I actually owned one, I would immediately concede that the design of the exterior is painfully similar to brands that Lincoln wished it could compete with right now. I think it's fishy how it now looks more Jaguar than even Jaguar. But I won't complain that it doesn't look good. It's just that it appears for the near-term, Lincoln has no ambition to look different. Well, maybe the resemblance will help sales, and justify more investment. But that's a big if. The interior... just not feeling the update. I don't like the steering wheel, how it continues to have overlapping panels instead of integrated ones. But the rest is an upgrade, so why not? But I still continue to like the side profile. It's very good.

Wow, yes. I thought they were were selling themselves short, but damn, very nice. And yeah, Emerald Green Metallic all the way for me! Yes please to a $90,000 American car that will obliterate its Japanese and German rivals.

Go. All. The. Way: '16 Camaro Motortrend Car of the Year
Suaviloquent replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
Done, whoops, I think I just garbled it. Make sense though? -
At the rate Camaro's going...it's already a Corvette at a Camaro price point. I remember making a post once on MT, and that was about a year ago. "GM has to make every vehicle it makes the Corvette of its class" Boy is this becoming the reality. The reality that I want. Finally I can cheer for GM without any irreverence. You'd have to be a someone who flat out hates cars to not like what companies that disrupt - basically what GM and Volvo did this year.

Goddamn now - talk about salience and self-confirmation bias. I wanted the Camaro to win, and told myself I would basically ensure that in the next few years I would buy it - if it won. And now it has won, I have to buy it. But I already wanted to buy it, so the award win is just a self-confirmation from automotive jesus. Now, what's the best way to kit it out? I want the V8...but to be honest I think I'd be fine with the 2.0T. The base model comes really nicely setup. Only choice is automatic, which is a thrilling no, yes it exists, but no I don't want it.

Go. All. The. Way: '16 Camaro Motortrend Car of the Year
Suaviloquent replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
I think the biggest thing that other automakers have to take away from GM's 2-3 years of consistently superior performance is that GM is doubling down on cost-effective technology than benefits consumers. It's not even a feasibility issue. GM is doing things that other automakers should be able to do, but chose not to. Modular platforms, eking out the most of available technologies, and still pursuing connectivity and tech. And even if Camaro didn't win - Chevy has an almost entirely new car showroom. New for 2016 - Malibu, Camaro, Cruze, Spark, Volt. And I really like the Malibu. I finally have started to like the front, and the rest is spectacular. But at the price they're selling the Camaro, it's just no brainer. Now please Chevy be fair with CAD pricing. Currency issues and all, keep the dream alive! -
Probably just a small price difference thing. circa 2002 - my father raved about the Impala he would get as a rental when he'd go on frequent business trips. And that was before, where he was a disciple of Toyota. I show him Chevy now and he's basically a full-on convert. If he wants a new car, well, like the Chevy ad for the 3 Chevy trucks. Chevy, Chevy, Chevy. Impala, Camaro, Colorado.

I think it being the first one of its kind probably equates to some kind of growing pains. But that Camaro. But that Cayonado. But that XC90. Pretty tasty. Now, the Golf was rejuvenated with COTY. I expect the Camaro to go balls-out, on a sales chart upheaval.

"A 5/8 Ton Truck": C/D Tests Nissan Titan Cummins
Suaviloquent replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
Well, maybe they don't need a brand-new frame. When the Titan came out, it had some pretty stout ratings for towing. I'm still wondering what it comes out to be. But seriously, if an F150 and Sierrado weigh more than half a ton less, that's not going to be competitive in terms of advancement in design at all. But it's not as though previous gen trucks were all that bad to begin with. I think of the regular 2016/17 Nissan Titan as a competitor to the Ram 1500 before it got EcoDiesel. By that I mean the Nissan is a truck that's already old, becoming even more obsolete despite the redesign. Yeah Nissan better be priced like a midsize to sell this somewhat cartoonish rendition of a truck. -
Pre-emtive creation of a thread for discussing all 3 of the Year Winners after they are announced during MT's livestream for your time-saving pleasure. Update: Adam Carolla isn't really that funny.

Spur of the moment? Anyways I imagined that statement with RAM truck commercial voiceover dude's voice. Guts. Glory. Testicular Fortitude. RAAAAMMMM Then I imagined Jeep Grand Cherokee ad music. The one they played during the "What we make Makes us Commerical" Oddly befitting.

"A 5/8 Ton Truck": C/D Tests Nissan Titan Cummins
Suaviloquent replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
I think the pricing information so far actually does the truck some favour. Granted, it is the XD model pricing, but you do get more truck. Not less, better truck, just more truck. Some people might need that. There's also the non XD, but I think all the information on it so far says it's going to be using the old chassis. Not a lot of innovation here. Some reviewers did say how the truck tows with a lot of confidence, the kind you would really only get with heavy duties. However, this clearly isn't going to be like how the Canyonado twins (that entered an under-served niche) are perpetually sold-out since launch What's most intriguing to me is that even though the XD is a new truck from the ground up, everything from the looks of it feels conventional. Like I feel I've seen many parts of the interior just cribbed from past Nissan BOF vehicles, how the design is unoriginal yet at the same time just distinct yet uninspired and, well and C/D was right. This truck just has no ambition to be great. Just par for the course. Not bad, but still the worst you could do. -
Yeah, pretty much what I feel. I made a strategic shift towards cycling for all movement in around the city, and getting the thrill, but also just being focused on each pedal stroke, I make my own escape machine. But yes, when my economic mobility breaks through the roof, I will be sure to get an auto as an escape machine.
