I just feel that if Ford can't make money on this car even with building it in Mexico (and it only uses like 20-40% domestic content) and with so many parts sourced overseas...it serves them right to have this car fail. The 2013 even wasn't a car that was outright a segment leader. Even then the all-new Accord was a better car in almost every way. They'll never care to make their passenger sedans actually worth buying if they aren't willing to commit to a decades long process to gain back that market. And if there really is competitiveness issue due to foreign currency valuations, it still doesn't excuse them, because atleast the import brands use far more domestic content and engineer the cars in the US for the US. The Fusion is a long delayed car that was supposed to be the direct competitor to the last-gen Passat and Opel Insignia. For the U.S. it meant a car with a roofline too sleek, and for Europe it meant a car slightly too big and heavy. There labour trouble in Belgium ruined the launch, and caused the car to be year late in Europe. The reason why the 2020 redesign was canned was probably because Ford was going to do OneFord Fusion 2.0, which proved to be a compromised approach.

I think the LC is the halo car that Lexus wanted, and they are okay with being different about it. With Mercedes you can choose between many options, but all of them give and take in certain ways. But Lexus wanted a grand tourer, but also a personal luxury coupe. Then they somehow also gave it performance handling and fun to drive chops. The biggest functional flaw is that even in the realm of coupes the LC is petite, but then again maybe the controversial design had something to do with it.

I think what SMK is trying say is that the possible exposure to this new engine is far greater in an utility vehicle than a shrinking sedan segment. But they want this engine to be hand-made at the Performance Build centre. I think when Cadillac builds their performance crossover, that it will get this engine. But they could just skip that BS. Cadillac probably plans to get make a performanc EV crossover. That's what i would do. Skip this V8 bullshit for crossovers, just get a decent sized XT5 sized thing, add dual motor like Tesla, put a 300 mile range capable battery size, a fast charging capabilty and call it a Cadillac XT_VEEEE... That's where everybody else is going anyways, and most people if you gave them pics of a performance crossover, with AMGs, Ms, and SQ's, and then a base model Tesla X, they will put the base model Telsa X as an equal to an AMG.

I actually think this refresh fixes that problem with the 2017s that they looked wayyy to jelly bean when the 2013 when it came out had a bit more of an angular, teutonic look. The biggest letdown is that the 6F soldiers on. The 8F, Ford's version of the joint 9-speed is supposed to be able to be packaged into the D4, it's in the Nautilus. But it's great that they've pared down the options and made a lot more content standard features. They had to, the Fusion can no longer command a price premium. Like Camcords and Altimatics. Hyundriers. and Kiawashers are killing this car. The new 2018 Accord hybrid starts at $26,000. Seriously, Ford just can't compete. They need a car that is ahead of their competitors product cycle, and thye just don't have that. I feel bad for Ford's car group, they showed how a refresh of an also-ran could transform itself into the best car from an American company from 2009 till late 2011. This refresh changes nothing.

Is the world better off with the LC? Pros - Different manufacturer with their own differentiated product in a space with few alternatives and stagnant development - Breaks up the showroom monotony of past Lexus models - An actual blast to drive, great interior, beautiful symphony soundtrack - Makes a powerful statement styling wise, though not always a desirable one due to individual tastes - Middle finger to turbos and small displacement Cons - Another luxury product that dwindles Earth's finite resources for the pleasure of the few at the expense of the many - Animal cruelty to upholster the interior and deforestation to decorate the interior, and perhaps even previous metals, trace elements used from untraceable, perhaps illegitimate sources that have a downstream effect of devastating low income communities and the ecologies that are destroyed to produce said raw materials - As a flagship vehicle does not really represent a profitable product on its own, causes prices of other Lexus models to increase in order to capture the intangible brand value of a halo product. - Terrible AF infotainment. - Could they actually say this is state-of the art when it's weighs more than the full size sedan twin the LS....what do? - Not a Tesla, therefore, weak.

Lincoln News: Rumorpile: Lincoln Continental To Be One and Done?
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Lincoln
You know, in hindsight this car probably wasn't worth it, but Lincoln tried the old nameplate routine, and it seems that it has failed. No Conti means definitely no Taurus ever again too. Tho I do remember mentioning how the Continental was just a bonus for USA and Canada, as it was really meant for China. That explain why you conk your head and get a concussion every time you get in one DFelt!- 58 replies

Buick News: 2019 Buick Envision Adds More Gears, Lowers Price
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
I don't like the Envision at all, the styling is all like DFelt would say - it's a jellybean auto crossover to me. I'm sure it's a fine vehicle dynamicallly, but I like the styling of the Lincoln MKC more. -
U.S. oil inventories are down still because major refineries in Texas were doing a lot of overhauls and maintenance. I couldn't believe it, oil hovering around $60 a barrel and gas selling for $1.30 CAD per litre. 4L is a little more than 1 gallon, so we were paying like $5.10 per gallon. And we still are. Well, atleast Europe is more brutal for gas than even Canada.

Cadillac's Average Transaction Prices at new Heights
Suaviloquent replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Cadillac
That's good, BMW especially has flooded itself with cheap 320i leases and i3's and i8's it can't sell. Mercedes looks to be the big bogey that Cadillac has to take on, Audi being the new German underdog in chief....again. Lexus is the LC and LS and nothing else right now. The RX is the prescription to luxury like Toyota SUVyndrome. -
Audi News: Spying: Audi Q8 Is Almost Undisguised
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Audi
I am completely underwhelmed, but only because the styling, it feels sooooo old. Only Audi can pull off having their flagship crossover be like a stuffed up Q2 with nicer proportions portions here and there. And yeah the XT5 is not pretty either. Ditto for the Escape. The Bentayga can drive off a cliff all I care. I'm starting to see a pattern here..... -

Also - Olds, I'll have you know... I have never seen a single Star Wars films, I know really NOTHING material about the LucasFilms franchise, And I don't think I'll ever watch a single film in the forseeable future. Many people have said I am crazy, either not human or flat-out bluffing, but nope I have not seen a single film, even any understanding of all the plot-lines through trailers or small snippets is vague or laughably shallow at best, and if worst like I think for sure - I am completely a 'tard when it comes to STAWRS WAWRZ. "BUT HOW CAN U LIV WITHOUT TEH INTERNETS" "BUT HOW CAN U LIV WITHOUT STARS WOWS"

Plenty of auto reviewers/publications have started to turn on the Volvo actually - only because with how well the styling and build quality of the interior is, any shortcoming is glaring. Their infotainment system is laggy and filled with bugs, and I think just as big of a weak link as the Armada's. The ride and handling are below par for the luxury segment, but the XC90 isn't priced at the top-end either. Powertrains are the problem for the luxury segment, but a solution to world increasingly chopping off some or all cylinders at a time. You'd also probably want only the T6, and not the inscription model - because those get the large wheels - which means you want to get the Air Suspension too. Touareg and GC are tops in this list. Isn't FCA finally getting a settlement in the works over the EcoDiesel? Or did that only affect RAM truck models that got the same engine? And isn't the Touareg TDI the only one that didn't require a substantial hardware fix to correct the substantial NoX emissions? The VW is greater than the sum of its parts to me, and has the credentials to compete for your honest CPO luxury cushy ride dollars. You get that bit of exclusivity too! But I know that matters very little to you, you care only for the performance of intended function. The Jeep is part Wrangler in ethos, part Durango in family heritage, part collaboration with EVIL EMPIRE (Daimler) for the platform that underpins it. TL:DR, you get a lot of the best parts that FCA has ever put together for any vehicle ever since the partnership post BK. Especially that UConnect. I would go for the VW, because it's more cushier than the GC if you compared it to German brand levels of refinement and build (if that matters to you), but the GC is a more versatile vehicle though be not as tailored in its multi-role capabilities, vis-a-vis the VW's more defined on-road prowess.

Kinda late but - Happy Festivus, Happy Chanukah/Hannukah, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and all of the above and those I did not mention from lack of off-hand knowledge - those too!

I think the styling of the SRX is more edgy though, and honestly, some might argue if it had fancy LED lights in front too, laypersons when it comes to cars might think the late model SRXs is the same age as the XT5. I tend to think of the SRX as being an unheard of American alternative to all the bizarre crossover coupes shenanigans from the import brands with its headroom limited second row... It actually has the requisite declining roof line and shallow angle rear glass, though Cadillac probably would never ever tout that styling feature.

Chevrolet News:Chevrolet Unveils the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado
Suaviloquent replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
Well, it does finally look like a new Silverado for a new incoming decade. At first I thought that Chevy was going away from the current planted to the road look of the current Silvy, but then I remembered that this is the Z71 Trailboss. Good luck with carbon fibre beds, because if that's true, and they're using high modulus stuff, they must have figured out a way to make it compliant at the same time. Probably that bed option will be only for LTZ and High Country trims, but I think the weight savings of going that route will be inconsequential. A better place for CF is the roof or hood, out of harms and reality as well as disappointment's way if Chevy made another stupid concrete block commercial without bed liners. Plus using it on roof and hood would actually lower the center of gravity, help handling.... Glad to see the rounded fender arches, honestly, seeing the frame and other under-body innards on the current gen - especially if you didn't opt for the wheel arch covers factory or aftermarket - looked so cheap or like as if something had taken a bite off out of the fenders. -
It’s like 5 or 6 other cars and utes interbred and then here’s a premature infant from that coupling. And it’s a colour of green, a sign of health and vitality.

Kia News: 2018 Kia Stinger to Begin At $32,800, GT At $39,200
Suaviloquent replied to William Maley's topic in Kia
Hey to those of you actually interested in this car - test drive it, but buy it in Canada, have it delivered there and then import it back into the U.S. For some inexplicable reason, the car fully loaded in Canada is priced $5000 less nominally. That's before you factor in exchange rates. We Canadians get a massive discount on this car. Also, missing features like a 360 degree camera are included in the Canadian market car. Seriously - it's the SS car Chevy stopped making, Ford cannot possibly build without sinking billions, and Chrysler won't make for atleast another 4 years, if they even try to remake the Charger or 300 on the Giulia platform. Kia is by introducing this car the last holdout in the affordable RWD performance 4 door grand tourer. -
Okay, so when I first heard that this new grille was going to be on the refreshed MKX and MKC, I was expected the ugliest Lincoln ever. Because the split wing design was best executed on the MKX by far... And I am thoroughly surprised. This new front end integrates quite well. However, I really can notice the lack of the the bulging hood that the Continental has, which to be fair, makes more of a statement for a flagship vehicle. Just like how the Bentayga can't fool anyone it's a jacked up Mulsanne. The Black Label interior with the wine colored leather, wow that is a looker. And the same wine colored exterior paint. Lincoln I still believe is in search of a proper platform dedicated for luxury vehicles. It doesn't mean all-RWD based only. Just a prestige auto platform that meets the kind of body structure rigidity, NVH and premium unibody build material specs that match the competition. Now why do some press releases say there's a new "8-speed" auto co-developed with GM. Where's the 9-speed? And here's why Lincoln can't progress any further with just upgrades in the form of a trim level reorganization: They can do these special 5-10% of sales Black Labels all they want, but that won't stop Genesis and even Kia making more relevant luxury/sport cars that don't wow with just a trim level or engine option. Lincoln is almost done establishing its identity. There's a long way to go for that identity to be acknowledged across the auto market.

Now another thing. Let’s say like next year u start seeing some decent incentives or 2018 MY clear outs for this new Navi. Will Cadillac then offer even more cash on the hood? The Escalade is their most profitable product on a per unit basis. Hmmm....

Look man, part of the GT's price is it's history and heritage. And you can bet that the person who bought a GT can and most likely will get some kind of modern Corvette too. Plus it's MADE IN CANADA quality, which you can't get in the United States.... Well....duhhh...stupid point aside, The cars compete on performance but much less elsewhere. The GT also can't really perform much better than it can because of homologation issues, and how strictly they had to match the production and race car to optimize the GTE race car. Which of course was BP'd to hell in it's second year of Ford's leg in the LE MANS because no one would want to watch 4 straight years of Ford using a dedicated car to win it's class. The same class which is filled with cars that aren't devoted to solely exist to win there and sell very low volumes as an uncompromising and rather uncomfortable supercar. The GT has intangible value, hard to assess, different person to person. This Corvette may have some bench stats to read off a list somewhere, but that's again value for dollar, which is immaterial once you start getting higher and higher into six figures.

Somehow I feel like this version of the Corvette ZR1 is kinda like the iPhone 8 Plus. Super powerful guts, expected pack leading performance on most general benchmarks used against peer and above competition, but tried and true styling from the past several years. The real Corvette we're all supposedly waiting for is the 2020(?) mid-engine one? Is that going to be the Corvette version of the iPhone 10? Okay, stupid analogy aside... it's probably going to tear apart anything it competes against on power and performance.
