Watch a 300-HP Kawasaki H2R Race a Veyron, McLaren 12C, 1350-HP GT-R
SalesmanSean replied to ccap41's topic in The Lounge
Take a class. I very highly suggest taking a class. I took one when I was 16 with my dad(he knew how to ride but wanted me to learn). It was a great learning experience. There are beginner classes around here that are only 20 bucks and you get it back after the class or you can donate it to help continue to fund the classes because the instructors are volunteers. Mine was a little 3 day class, friday evening for a couple hours in a classroom. Then satuday we split the day half room, half on bikes. Sunday the same and then we took a test at the end. If you pass you just wait for the paper in the mail and get your license at the DMV(no testing there because you passed) and you get to check the box fr your insurance company that you took a safety class. I probably will do that if/when I get to that point. First thing first though is to get that bike back in working order, if it turns out to even be worth it. I don't even know what all for sure would need fixed on it (possibly everything as old as it is). What I know is it wasn't working when he put it into storage and that was somewhere in the 30+ years ago range. -
You have $35k: Spec a (New) Camaro, Mustang, or Challenger
SalesmanSean replied to cp-the-nerd's topic in The Lounge
The Challenger R/T comes standard with their 8spd for like 31,800.. then you can still add some gadgets! Yeah, but I like the Camaro's looks just a bit better. If I wasn't going Camaro the Challenger would be my next option, though. -
Chevrolet News:Spying: Chevrolet Cruze Minus Camo
SalesmanSean replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
Not bad looking, it doesn't have as much personality as I would like, but I know that I can't really expect too much of that in this segment. I'd feel confident in showing and recommending this to a customer, and that's important. I don't get that same feeling from things like a Versa or a Yaris, or a couple other options we carry.- 36 replies

Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing the 2016 Tacoma in person. That will be the real comparison, did Toyota do enough to keep it in competition with these new GM trucks. I wish we could actually get a Colorado or Canyon on the lot for me to test out, but they are just gone way too quickly if they get to the lot at all (only one has so far). Another nice review.

I pass by a billboard advertising those things every time we go to a doctor's appointment and all I can think is how fun that looks like it would be. Nice review.

Perfect song for a perfect drive & Lambo
SalesmanSean replied to knightfan26917's topic in The Lounge
The title says it all, but the perfect song for a drive is Audioslave's "I Am the Highway". Now I could come up with a much longer playlist for a long drive, but if I'm picking one perfect song, that is it. Just the entire tone of the song evokes the feeling of driving towards a horizon as the sun is starting to set, and it's one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite artists, so I'm a little biased. -
I like this idea, but I just can't honestly see GM doing this. Brands like Mitsubishi need something to help them stick out and grab some attention, so something like that was a worthwhile gamble. GM is already strong and established enough that they don't need to, and consequently don't bother with, making big splashes like this. It would be great to see them offer more performance variants out side of the V-series Cadillac models, but right now there is no indication that any of that will happen. There are a lot of things I'd like to see GM do and take some chances with, and more performance options is definitely a big one. It seems to me that right now, though, their focus is on kind of rebooting Cadillac and, from all the rumors out there, maybe putting some serious effort into finally setting the GMC brand apart more. With Chevy and Buick they appear to be a little more content to just hold the line. Keep what they have being the best they can make it, but not go overboard with anything new. Although, if they really do make that Avenir...

I have a bike, but it is going to take a lot of time/work to make it go, and then I need to actually learn how to ride. It's one of those things I've always meant to get around to and just haven't. I'll have to get some more details about it, because I know basically nothing. It was the bike my dad got his first motorcycle license with, and it sat in storage for years and he said if I wanted it I could have it. I very excitedly said yes, and now it has still been sitting for more years. Now that he's (semi) retired I keep thinking maybe he and I can manage to find some time to work on it together and I can learn something. I wish i could see this video at the moment, but alas it is not to be at work. It sounds like an awesome matchup, though. -

I can't quite get myself under the limit, though it's close. I'm going Camaro. I want the V8, so I'd be looking base SS with blue exterior and black interior, but ashamedly I'm not much good with a a manual and that automatic bumps me up to $35,795. If I have to stay under the limit I'm at least going to make the drop to a lower engine worthwhile and load it a little and go for the 2LT with blue exterior still, but the black/blue interior this time. Sticking with the automatic and getting the RS package just so I can have the rear spoiler. That leaves me just enough room for the performance exhaust to come in right under the mark at $38,410. -

Cars of the '70s, Decade of Disaster or Delight?
SalesmanSean replied to axlon's topic in The Lounge
Say what you will about '70's cars, I would take just about any one of them over almost any car from the 80's. On design alone they stand head and shoulders above their next generation of descendants. It seems like for an entire decade, maybe more, car companies forgot about making interesting and attractive cars and just put some ugly square boxes on wheels and called it a day. There's a beautiful '79 Corvette Stingray on the lot here that gives me goosebumps to look at though, it could maybe use some mechanic work at the moment, but the looks.... About the only '80's cars I could say that about would be maybe a Lambo, because what kid in the '80's didn't lust after a Lambo? -
Probably won't try to get caught up on quite that many posts, but there will definitely be some catching up.

The band sounds like fun, if you were close by and needed a singer I would absolutely volunteer my services. Not a huge baseball fan, but it can make for some great movies, the two you mention here are definitely a couple of my favorites. Believe it or not...I actually cried once watching... A League of Their Own....at the end... My dad had just passed away...in 2006...and I was watching TV...there was nothing else on TV late at night...and I thought to myself...what a great movie to slowly unwind and eventually fall asleep after a hard night's work...well, the end got to me...I used to go watch the Expos often in the 1980s with my dad...plus...he was a WW2 veteran...the tears just flowed as I made practically the same connections...in a weird and surreal kinda way... I get it completely. As tough as my man-ego may want me to pretend to be, there are plenty of times I find my eyes starting to get a bit misty at certain times in certain movies.

The band sounds like fun, if you were close by and needed a singer I would absolutely volunteer my services. We like bringing over friends to jam on practice days so hit me up if you're in the Baltimore area! It's actually an interesting line-up. My brother plays drums and does most of the vocals (34) and my dad plays bass (61). Our family friend plays lead guitar (26) and he's the youngest in the band. Our rhythm section is incredible (how many old guys you know can nail Flea bass riffs??) and we play songs most bands wont even attempt (Riders on the Storm, Superstition, Piano Man, all sorts of stuff. We just reached a 40 song set list and are looking to start playing out. When we record our demo I'll definitely share it. Sounds like a lot of fun, but I'm afraid Baltimore is a bit of a drive from Iowa. Haven't been in that area since my Army days. Used to go to DC for a week every month due to a project I was working on.

Name: Ford Focus (2008) Date Added: 22 May 2015 - 02:02 PM Owner: SalesmanSean Short Description: Wife's car, very basic (manual windows, locks, no cruise), I kind of hate it, but it's hers, she paid cash for it, and she loves it. Not sure how much she paid for it, and I do all the driving for the family, thus the way low miles. I'm making an assumption on the HP/Torque. When looking it up I see two sets of numbers listed for each, with one as standard one as optional. There isn't a different engine option, so I'm guessing that it is related to the transmission. Since hers has the auto which is optional I'm making an educated guess that that is the one that gets the numbers that show as "optional" for HP/torque. Again, will try to maybe add a picture later. Name: Honda Civic (2009) Date Added: 22 May 2015 - 01:45 PM Owner: SalesmanSean Short Description: Bought new in Texas, traded in a '98 Ford Contour for it. It isn't flashy or exciting, but it was what I could afford, and I make it as enjoyable as I can. No real complaints other than maybe I should have gotten a different interior color, I'm not a fan of beige. In the cost spot I put the whole amount financed, not sure what the base price was, but I think the rate was like 2.9% or something like that. I'll see about getting a picture sometime later, maybe. I'm just trying to figure out where to start reading here. At MT I knew I just wanted to read every active thread in the General or Drive-In sections. This is better organized, by far, but that also makes it a bit more daunting. It's got a very nice, clean look to it, and getting things to post on the first try is nice. I just have to figure out the best way for me to navigate it now. it helps to have so many familiar names, because if I see someone I recognize in a thread I know I'm on the right track.

Copied and pasted from my post in Motor Trend forums, to be honest: I'm a salesman (just in case no one had figured that out), currently selling cars, but I've sold furniture, electronics and appliances, ran a meat department for a Wal-Mart, and done quotations, purchasing and sales for a machine shop, among other things. I'm a vet, spent 5 years active duty in the US Army as a psychological operations specialist, and though I was lucky enough to not be sent overseas during the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, my work was used to try and save the lives of those that were deployed there. I like to read (and write, too, though I've not had the guts to submit anything for publication), in particular horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and some mystery stuff. I also have a huge movie collection, the majority of which follows similar lines to my reading tastes. I very much enjoy video games, whether console or PC, but when it comes to console I'm a Sony guy. Nintendo has some games I really wish would be available for other systems (Fire Emblem, Smash Bros., Metroid, etc.) but it's rarely worth dealing with a Nintendo console to try and play them. The Halo series turned me off of Xbox systems, and really the only (non-timed) exclusives they've had for a long time that even interest me have been the Fable games. I absolutely love to sing karaoke, used to go out multiple times a week, and I've won a contest or two in my day, but I have a wife and a son now and don't really get out anymore. That's alright, though, they're better than karaoke and if I really want to sing I can always fire up some Rock Band. I'm an Iowa boy and I love the Mississippi. I've moved away a couple times (for example that 5 year stint at Ft. Bragg), but for better or worse I always end up back here. Love my sports, football in particular, and in our family we root for Chicago in professional sports (Bears, Bulls, Cubs, Blackhawks, Sky, Fire, Rush (when they existed), and I'll even cheer for the White Sox when they don't play the Cubs) and Iowa Hawkeyes for college sports. I don't know a lot about cars, but I'm learning. I've always loved the look of a well-designed car, and greatly enjoyed driving, but never really cared about all the little details before. I'm working on fixing some of that. I think I have probably way over-shared by this point, but, eh, you'll have that. I do tend to be a bit wordy.
