  1. Important note- I have revised the rules of this thread, so pay close attention. C&D makes these threads super easy, so with them just having wrapped up an instrumented test on a new 2016 Grand Cherokee V6 Summit, it'll be the standard here. Here is the review- http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2016-jeep-grand-cherokee-v-6-test-review Due to (merited) complaints from members regarding the sometimes huge price ranges, I have decided to try a different set this time. You will only have range between base and as-tested price to play with. And of course, it will have to be a new CUV/SUV of some sort. Base price- $33,290 As-tested price- $54,285 You must spend at least the base price, but no more than the as-tested price. Vehicle must be a new, on-sale SUV or CUV.
  2. Super easy. As much as I like the GNX, the E30 M3 is a car that started an entire genre, and with it a legacy. If I were to choose something else, it'd be a Porsche 930. Maybe the GNX after that. Or the 190E that Cap posted.
  3. Well, I'm not a huge of either car. One is a torqueless wonder with a compromised door design, the other is a malaise era boat masquerading as a muscle car. At least the torqueless wonder looks cool and handles well-
  4. I dare Cadillac to find their own identity and stop trying to build 10 year old BMW's. In other words, build a compelling product that follows their own ethos.
  5. Lol. Show me an N/A GM V8 that makes 800hp with a tune and supporting bolt-ons. If this were a Cadillac with this engine, you and others would be creaming themselves.
  6. Well, right in the links to the articles you posted, it shows the new LGX using the block from the LFX. That's pretty related, lol. As for the LTG, even with the block being different, it could still share a lot of design elements and components. It's not like it's in a mfr's best interests to say, "This engine is revised variant to it's predecessor."
  7. My thoughts, as objective as possible- The 2.0T car is better suited for daily duties. More low-end power that makes traffic, merging, passing easier to deal with. Plus, you have the tuning potential. I agree with whoever said it does less gear hunting, as well. I also think if you have a little restraint, it will get better mileage. Turbo lag is minor, and engine NVH could be a bit better. You can get it with a stick, which is cool. The V6 has the advantages of sounding great, and having a more linear power delivery. I think it feels quicker than it's numbers suggest, especially when stretching it's legs. You have an engine that is more or less at it's potential from the factory, though. As for the car itself, it's a mixed bag. I'm not one of those who think the ATS is the end-all of the segment. That is definitely not the case. But I'm also not one of those to dismiss it solely for the badge. On the upside, the car easily has the best handling in the class. The chassis is stiff, sharp, and solid, and it's coupled to good steering- precise, nicely weighted, decent feel. The exterior design I'm a pretty big fan of. It's sharp looking. The interior looks good too, though some materials are a bit low-rent. It's also a good value, due to the steep depreciation they suffer. That said, there are drawbacks. The rear seat is small. It's really equivalent to a smaller compact economy sedan back there. The ride is on the stiff side. It's not unbearable by any means, but it's not the most comfortable in the class, either. The automatic leaves a bit to be desired, imo. The 6AT just doesn't have the smoothness, the quickness, or the logic of other autos in competitors. Lastly, I have to say it- CUE. It has gotten better over the years, but in it's early iterations, it'd be a deal breaker for me, I think. I haven't been in one newer than a 15 MY. I also don;t know if earlier cars can be updated to perform as well as the current system. Honestly, if you can just live with CUE, it's not a bad buy. I personally, wouldn't really care what engine it had. I'd be a shopper for options and color. The only thing that'd really sway me was if it were a 6MT car. I'd also steer clear of the AWD, personally. The 2.0T in the Cadillac ATS and Chevy Malibu is not an improved LNF, it's a brand new engine. In the same sense that the 3.6L LGX in the Camaro and various Cadillacs is not a revised 3.6L LFX. It's rebuilt from the ground up. As far as the OP's question, I would avoid any 2013 models. The new 2.0T had some teething issues, so you have a much higher probability of finding a lemon with the first model year. Dealers that encounter the problem generally wind up dicking around for weeks or attempting to make cheap band-aid repairs that fail instead of just replacing the engine. Well it has much in common with the older engine. Yes it is not but it is not a totally different engine as the basics are still the same. Even the 3.6 while different still has much in common with the original 3.6 too. It is fair to call it an improved version of the original. To call it a totally new engine is really misleading. It's not misleading to call them new engines. They ARE new engines, they are not revisions. I have found nothing of convincing evidence indicating that they are clean sheet designs. Unless conclusive proof was shown, I do not believe they share nothing with earlier variants.
  8. I'll take the Vette. Just in a different color. ANY different color.
  9. Last several 'fun' threads I tried to employ to drum up conversation and activity all bombed, so. Not many new posts in other areas, either.
  10. So, uhh. Yeah. Like the title says.
  11. This, plus 65-70hp is what the Z06 should have been from the get go.
  12. Dodge and Chrysler are doomed. They'll either die off completely, or get bought and absorbed by another brand. Jeep and Ram might be okay.
  13. Sweet baby Jesus on a stick, I want one of these so, SO bad!!!
  14. Man, I can't believe you guys aren't familiar with the Alfa GTV. They were designed by Pininfarina, and reviews speak well of them. Hell, I'd take the Alfa just for this gorgeous engine- Also, definitely, definitely not ugly-
  15. Alfa by a landslide. Even if it didn't have that captivating body, the Thunderbird and LS were terribly unreliable cars. Also, I don't think you're gonna get many hits. Based on the last few Dream Garage threads I did, nobody wants to partake in these. Oh well, I tried.
  16. Lol at the last Esclade and especially an SRX 'exuding a sense of specialness'. Haha, wow. Talk about hyperbole. The last gen CTS Coupe sucked. It was ugly, and totally uncompelling in anything other than V form.
  17. The new 7 Series is mediocre. Nowhere have I said otherwise. It's still completely irrelevant to the topic at hand. While we're at it, I like Steak & Shake, what's your opinion on it?
  18. If U say so BMW fan. A brand that I equate with boring and slow drivers who would be better off at a Starbucks than in my way. Nonetheless... Escalade, CTS, CT6 beg to differ with your opinion: Sick burn. I thought we were talking about Cadillac. Cadillac needs to be building Ciels, Sixteens, and El Miraj's. THEN they would be fulfilling both their potential and heritage. Their current cookie cutter cars with cut-rate and garish interiors aren't cutting it. Sorry buddy, it's not my fault you can't look at the brand through anything other than rose-colored glasses.
  19. Wish I could have driven one of these before I left the GM store I worked at. I really like how they look, and am a big fan of the outgoing Cruze. Based on my impressions of the Malibu, I have no doubts this is a fantastic vehicle.
  20. Cadillac means no-compromise, no-excuse luxury Americana. A distinct look, stance, and presence. A Mercedes Benz- dare I even say, Rolls- for the American patriot. Unfortunately, Cadillac doesn't and refuses to build cars that embody those things. Such a shame.
  21. I had Wrangler Duratracs on my 4Runner Trail with 3" lift and it was a monster off road. It would make it through deep puddles, mud, and sand and up steep inclines w/out even putting it in 4WD most of the time. Those tires are beast. Talking about my 4Runner really makes me miss it. I hope I can either pick up a Wrangler Unlimited or FJ Cruiser as a 4th vehicle at some point in the near future. That, or upgrade my wife into a used Land Cruiser, or back into a 4Runner. Though this time around I'd go with a TRD Pro and leave it stock. The KO 2's are a really good tire as well. We put them on several trucks when I worked at the Chevy store. Good off-road capability, and they greatly fixed what was always the KO's weak link- wet weather and snow/ice performance. They're also better mannered for street driving. To whoever was considering it, I would hesitate to put KO 2's on a stock ride height Colorado/Canyon. That said, the Cooper Discovery and General Grabbers are solid alternatives.
  22. I just still want a Fisker with an LS9. Or an LT4. Or an LS7. Or an LT1. Or really, any V8. Actually, just any 400hp+ gas engine period.
  23. It's an incredibly nice car, but the styling of the new S just turns me off. Much rather have a Bentley or Aston.
