  1. Good acts are hard to follow. Especially in the auto business. Maybe more so in the auto business, actually. The steady march of technology is sometimes nullified by more stringent regulations, falling profits, a change in focus, and sometimes just as a result of straight up flubbing it. So with that in mind, I ask you what your dream garage would look like if you were only able to use today's cars' immediate predecessors. The rules- 1) Production models only. 2) These are your only vehicles. 3) Maximum of 5 choices. 4) Any variation of that previous model is allowed, even if the exact trim was not offered again. 5) Your choice must be the predecessor of whatever is on sale TODAY. That means NO- skipping generations, using current models that are soon to be replaced, or using face lifts. They must be the most immediately recent offering before what is currently on sale. 6) I WILL allow models that have different names but are CLEAR forebears in a lineage. Example- Gallardo to Huracan, 350Z to 370Z, 599 to F12, etc. Enjoy!
  2. Lame. Wouldn't have bought one in the first place.
  3. There's almost no heavily-optioned modern cars I'd keep out of warranty, so that's a moot point. MINI?!? MINI is statistically more likely to have an issue than ANY of those other brands.
  4. This particular car? Not a chance.
  5. Why? This vehicle has all the makings one needs to sell well in this segment- clean, albeit conservative, styling, a long list of features, a 3rd row spacious enough for actual adults, and multiple engine choices on top of it. Not to mention it's being built on a great platform. It is a shame that the 2.0T won't be offered with AWD. That's a lost opportunity there. On a side note, I think we are looking at the next GTI's engine specs in the base model.
  6. Yeah, I built a LOADED SRT Jeep out to 77K. In real life, it'd be my pick, too.
  7. Yeah, Idk, I think Porsche was hitting no shortage of home runs in the 70's.
  8. Lincoln is high. A few thousand more gets you the best non-hi-po midsize luxury sedan on the market. An A6 3.0T Prestige starts $1,500 more than this, and despite a power deficits performs about the same. And is more than a gussied-up mainstream midsize family sedan with mish-mash styling details. There's no way I'd spend even 50K on one of these things, and judging by how few I see on the road, doesn't look like many others are, either.
  9. I struggle with this one, as I love the Jag's gorgeous styling and don't want to be predictable, but everything I read about the Macan points to it being sublime to drive. It'd be my pick.
  10. C3's after 1972 were craptastic. And while Corvette was at the darkest point of it's existence, the 911 Turbo was paving the way for a new era of sports cars, and starting a legacy of dual-purpose sports cars that still exist today. And actually, is still the standard of the class it created.
  11. Reminding us that SUV/CUV/SAV/WTFEverV's don't always have to suck, Porsche and Jaguar's latest respective offerings were involved in a battle of sorts over at C&D. I won't spoil the results, so here's the link- C&D: Jaguar F-Pace vs Porsche Macan GTS So the question is, which would you rather have? Porsche Macan GTS Jaguar F-Pace S
  12. I had a chance to drive a TDI Cup w/ 6MT once. A fantastic little car. I would love to have one. A very unique, very cool, and very fun little package. I think if I had one, I'd tell VW to kick rocks w/ their Buy-Back offer. Very nice list! Great to see you participate in one of these. A fellow CGT picker!! Great list!
  13. Don't know anything about how these trucks will drive or perform, but "the GM twins beat this hands down." Of course, they do. Of course, they do. Not feeling that white one much, but the off-road variant looks the business. I'd rock one.
  14. Lol @ "...MB has failed." All Cadillac has to fall back on is power. Which considering it's difficulty in putting it down, is really rather academic. Oh, and price, although this is a segment where cost is of little priority. I have no doubts when this car makes it into the auto journos' hands, it'll be the new king of the hill. That said, two things jump out at me. The first is that although pretty, I am over this design language. It has gotten dated very quickly, and sharing the same look of the C Class really cheapens the car's image, imo. The other is that I think having to offer a standard model, with an 'S' above it is lame at best, and somewhat embarrassing at worst. Personally, they can keep their scaled up 100K C Class, and their overpowered RWD lux muscle car, and give me an S8 Plus, 650i Gran Coupe, or hell, even loaded S7. Something with finesse and true beauty, or at least unique looks.
  15. I mean, all you people have to do on this one is literally pick one or the other. Pretty easy. After some thought, I think I'd go with the GM duo. The GT is almost enough to tempt me, but the prospect of having the top down on my Z07-spec Vert C7Z and listening to that V8 roar paired with the lux factor of the CTS is too great. Sorry, Ford.
  16. Yeah, I was a bit worried on the list. The specific years makes it easy to miss some high water marks, but I feel I still managed to put together a solid collection.
  17. 1987 Porsche 930 2003 NISMO R34 Z-Tune 2008 Ferrari F430 16M 2016 Ferrari F12 TDF Bonus- Porsche Carrera GT
  18. Nice, diverse list there. As usual.
  19. So I had a request to make these more difficult. So in an effort to do that, I'm creating one that will be different for everybody, but still be based off the same rules. It will span different amounts of time for different posters, so everyone will have different options available to them. Here's the rules- 1) You get to select ONE vehicle from 5 different points in your life. They are as follows... 2) You get one vehicle from your birth year. 3) You get one vehicle from the year when you turned 16. 4) You get one vehicle from the year when you turned 21. IF you are 30, OR older, you can choose one from the year you turned 25. 5) You get one vehicle from today. 2016 or 2017 MY, on sale now. 6) You get ONE bonus pick, that has no requirements other than being a series production car. 7) These DO NOT have to serve as your only vehicles.
  20. I had to throw a bone or two in there. If I make lists that really require thinking or much work, nobody participates. Look at the Midsize Sedan one. I can't please everyone, though I try to mix it up. I mean, I couldn't realistically make everyone get 5 base models of mainstream cars. And if I separated sports/super cars, there'd be debate over where the line was drawn. This. And like I said, I had to throw in a few fun options.
  21. That, too.
  22. We're going with a couple of err....couples this time around. Each pairing will have a lesser, more usable option and high performance sports/super car option. However, there's a catch. There is a delta between each of those respective options. So, would you rather.... Combo 1- Cadillac CTS 3.6 (trim, drive and options of your choice) C7 Corvette Z06 (body style, trims, and trans of your choice) OR Combo 2- Ford Focus SE (body style and powertrain of your choice) Ford GT
  23. Yes. And it is a nice list. Just a bit predictable and GM heavy, lol.
  24. Killer list, dude. Yours is nice, too, CP.
