@ykX Do these have to be vehicles developed for or sold exclusively (or mostly exclusively) to the military?

I could have very easily just done an all-Toyota list. Previa MR2 Avalon Hybrid Corolla XR-S I4 RWD 4Runner or earlier xB pick.

Hmm.... Well first up is a car I already own- 1st Gen Scion xB. I've overheard people say they couldn't be paid to drive one. Many think they're ugly. I love them. Always have. The look is unapologetic and functional, the space is enormous, the gas mileage fantastic, and it even drives great. It's still an enjoyable vehicle to drive even after 4 years, and all the fun cars I've owned and driven in the same time span. Classic Beetle- Call it girly, call it what you will, I love these and make no apologies for it. Timeless looks, a carefree spirit in car form, and arguably the most iconic automotive design of all-time make this one an easy choice. I'd cruise this thing on the weekends and love every minute of it. Base 986 Boxster- Ah, yes. The hair-dresser's car. The Porsche for people who can't afford a 911. The Porsche for posers. I'd still rock one. fired-egg headlights and cheap interior and all. I'd devour my local back-roads in it every chance I got. MB R63 AMG- If driving a Mercedes van with compromised doors and a glorious, bellowing V8 is wrong, I don't wanna be right. Isuzu VehiCross- This one is a true 'WTF?' getter. A lot of people have never seen one or even knows they exist.

Yikes. These cars are going to be beyond stale by then. Will they even have the capital to develop all-new cars that are competitive and honor the spirit of the current cars?

What Would You Buy Instead: Lexus IS200 F Sport Edition
Frisky Dingo replied to Frisky Dingo's topic in The Lounge
I usually do, but the usual suspects weren't doing it for me. The SS was just out of reach. Both Audis broke the price cap with Virtual Cockpit and Vented seats. The IS350 was compelling, but I'd rather have a big ole V8 and more room. -

Dream car garage, Snap on Truck edition.....

After 50 years submerged in water, you could pull the 3 Toyotas out and they'd start and drive. -
Exactly. I hope as autonomous cars start to come online, the last few hold outs build cars like that- small, funky, fun, cool cars again. Cars for people like cars and driving, basically.

Chrysler News: Chrysler 200 Was A Worse Seller Than First Expected
Frisky Dingo replied to William Maley's topic in Chrysler
@ccap41 This segment is definitely going to start drying up. Only the fittest are going to survive. The current players are going to have to start really doing something compelling to keep sales numbers up. As it stands, even 4 grand price differences, and 5-7mpg better EPA ratings aren't doing the trick. I think the answer may be to start making them more stylish and fun to drive, ironically. The Fusion Sport, harsh of a review as I gave it, may be a big step in the right direction.- 39 replies

After a piece on this here just posted, C&D did an instrumented test on what may very well be the exact same car. Here's the link for those who want to check it out- C&D IS200 Test The review and impressions were very similar. The car has a base price of $42,945. As-tested was $47,235. So let's imagine you're buying a premium/lux sedan in the 43-48K range. Rules- 1) Car must be a 2016 or 2017 MY on sale now. 2) Must be a 4 door body style. I will allow a hatch/wagon. 3) Must be a sport-lux/premium/sport sedan of some sort. 4) MSRP MUST be at least $43,000, but no more than $48,000.

Chrysler News: Chrysler 200 Was A Worse Seller Than First Expected
Frisky Dingo replied to William Maley's topic in Chrysler
They shouldn't have even attempted this in the first place. For two reasons- 1)This segment is so deep with competent offerings, that unless you are building something that near-flawless objectively, there's no point. Even a car that is slightly behind the pack is going to get left in the dust from a sales standpoint. 2)It's a declining segment anyway. Building the best of something that is going to become obsolete isn't the greatest business case. It'd be like trying to make the best VCR after DVD players had already gained a foothold in the market.- 39 replies
