Ultimate Dream Garage: 300-399 HP Edition
Frisky Dingo replied to Frisky Dingo's topic in The Lounge
Stone me if you will, but never was much of a fan of the Cobra R. One of the least desirable modern Mustangs, imo. I'd take a Termi over it all day every day. I'd even take an N/A Cobra or Mach over one. Or a Salleen. -

I would narrowly an Mk4 Supra Turbo over an E46 M3. I'm with you on the 300 choice, though. -

@A Horse With No Name I admittedly totally picked the Teal just out of my own attraction to that color. -

These were on my list, as well. Along with a 997 or newer 911, BMW 1M or M2, E34 M5, Miura, Boxster Spyder. Also, the R has 292 hp. You can strike it out. -

Hank has full-size SUV written all over him. He needs the room to haul people and gear all over the place. He's successful, but not flashy, and drives something that reflects that. He drives a Yukon Denali XL- Anthony is totally a BMW driver. He is part Euro, after all. He's a kid, so he's not rocking an M3 or anything. He's pushing something older, an E90. A 328i sans Sport Pkg that is the champion cheap BMW the world over. It's got cheap BBS reps like virtually every other E90 in existence at this point- Hector is popular. That means he's probably a tool. And he's a bigger guy. What do big guys who are tools drive?? Why, Rams, of course!! And not just any Ram. A murdered-out one. It had to be. Coach is a rather square guy. After his divorce, he doesn't have the funds to keep up with the Jones anymore. But he's too proud to be slumming it in a Camry, so he's still rocking that 9 yo E Class he bought back when he was married to that hot blonde who was tired of working out every day to keep it tight and trim only for coach to have no interested in attending to her....uhm...needs.....anymore. Poor Coach. Colin is a car guy as much as he is a sports guy. He loves going out to the canyons for a fast drive to clear his mind after the stress of the game. He drives a Lancer Evo. A lightly modded X. Chaise's Mustang is super easy. It's teal. Teal, to be exact. A factory option color on the old SN95 cars. It's actually quite fetching- -

@ccap41 I narrowed my list down from about 15 very strong options. It was rather BMW and Porsche heavy, lol. But for diversity's sake- BMW M5 E39- The car that should be on everyone here's list. Greatest sport sedan ever built. My DD. Chevy Colorado ZR2- Off-road fun, occasional family hauler. TVR Sagaris- I just adore these. Raw, visceral, scary, manic. Perfect. Ferrari 360 Modena Spyder- Gotta have a vert. And this is my favorite modern Ferrari built. Porsche 964 Turbo S- Almost picked the equally lovely 3.8 RS, but I had to have one car with some boost. -

I could do a 35 car list NO PROBLEM, haha. Hell, I could have done at the sub-200hp level! -
5 and two months shy of 9. And I'm DONE. Lol.

It's about a circa late 19th century world- like the old Wild West- created by Anthony Hopkins that is populated by hosts- in this case, human-like robots. The hosts all have their own narratives and story lines and interact with one another and the human guests. They are essentially there for amusement and entertainment of guests. They cannot hurt the guests, but can and do harm/kill one another. The park was created as a creative outlet and experiment for Hopkins and his (now dead) partner. Over time, corporate involvement came about for the capital investment. The story follows a variety of characters- both hosts and humans- through their own stories of awakening, self-discovery, etc. It's very thought provoking and deep. The characters are really top notch, and the scenes are beautifully created and played out. It's a brilliant show. Easily one of the best fictional series I've come across. I highly recommend it. I have 2 PS3 profiles. One handle is N54_driver, the other is PRTTYhateMACHN

@ykX That's a fantastic list, man. -
My girls are more into games. They love Minecraft, which I feel is harmless enough. And they play video games with me. Gran Turismo and Super Smash Bros, mostly.

My family (kids included) watch very, very little TV. My wife and I have 2-3 series we follow- TWD, Ray Donovan, Westworld- and then a few on Netflix, mostly nature shows and history documentaries and the like. We don;t watch any reality TV, media, etc, etc.

If I'm in line with 4 other guys and someone is handing out dream cars, I won't turn down a McLaren F1 just because the other guys chose one, too.- 11 replies

My 300hp range list is going to have some uncommon picks. I answer them the best I can. If the choices may seem cliche, or match someone else's picks, so be it. I think that's part of the fun- seeing which cars are unanimously popular.- 11 replies

I know, a non-car related post from Frisky. Crazy, right? Anywho, any of you guys watching this series? It's fuck ing crazy!! In the best way possible!!

As we get to the range where the first digit becomes a '3', we start to see a lot more diversity. In this bracket we have everything from mid-engine rockets, to benchmark sport sedans to AWD rally fighters, to entry level muscle and pony cars. Something for everyone! Rules- 1) Production models only. 2) Maximum of 5 choices. 3) These are your only vehicles. 4) Any era and market is allowed. 5) MFR's power rating MUST be AT least 300hp, but NO MORE THAN 399hp. Have fun!

I never really was before myself. Owning one pretty much had me hooked. I've always like 4Runners, even before I was in the car business, but back when I was young and could only afford one car, sports cars were top priority for me. Now that I'm older and can have multiple cars, and have a need for a back seat, they are much easier to justify. As much as I love tearing up curvy back roads in a sports car, there is something almost equally appealing about venturing off the pavement and getting to see places that you otherwise wouldn't. If you commit to using their capability, they will get you to some really incredible spots that are a joy to experience. And getting there can be a ton of fun itself. I love fording water, hitting mud holes, climbing rocks and logs, and steep inclines/descents. It is just as challenging as good car control on road, and best of all, you're usually going so slow there's no risk in hurting yourself or others. Worst case, you call a wrecker and have an insurance claim. We've taken levee roads right down to river's edge before. Gone down rough farming roads to hidden spots and seen dozens of deer, turkeys, eagles and other birds of prey, coyotes, foxes, turtles, snakes, etc. My kids love it. We've taken fire roads out into forests and found barns/homes that have been abandoned for decades and have vintage signs/newspapers/magazines/furniture in them. It's fascinating. The only real drawbacks are how hard it can be sometimes to get them clean, and the fear of damaging your ride, especially if it's newer and/or expensive. The mods can also be pretty pricey. But you don't need to go to extremes to be able to enjoy moderate off roading.

Probably going to keep it stock for the foreseeable future. The tires on it still have a ton of life left, so no rush to do anything there. As components begin to reach the end of their lifespan, I will most likely begin to upgrade them. Maybe OME or Toyotec suspension, newer 4Runner or FJ wheels with a slightly more aggressive tire. For now, I'm just going to enjoy it as is. It'll be a great extra vehicle to have around this winter. My xB has good all-seasons and manages snow fine, but it's not a great deal of fun doing so. The wife's Rav is AWD, and it is rather competent, but AWD is just not the same as a true 4WD system.

They are NOT for everyone. No disputing that. But if you're the outdoors type that wants rugged and dependable transportation that will stand up to years of abuse and still have a strong demand for it after 200,000 miles, this vehicle has no equal. Niche market it may be, it's one that needs filling.- 11 replies

I can vouch that these are immensely capable off road. But they really need more aggressive tires to shine. The stock Dunlops rather suck. Performance and dynamics inhibiting they may be, some people like the more truck-like feel of the 4Runner. That tall-sitting, upright window, clear visibility layout is something lacking in most CUV's on the market. Besides that, these have legendary reliability and resale vale. There are advantages this vehicle enjoys over the Grand Cherokee besides just off-road ability. Solid write-up, though.- 11 replies

These tires aren't THAT expensive. I had 33"s on my 4Runner and they were just over $1,100 mounted and balanced.

I love the ABT (bottom) wheels, but they are too expensive. But those and the top ones (OEM 'Detroits' from an Mk6) are gloss black. The middle ones are Audi RS5 reps, and they are black chrome. I like black chrome in general, but I don't they'd work well with my car. I am heavily considering the Audi reps in satin black with red trim, though.
