Current Equinox--anyone have experience with one?
Frisky Dingo replied to Robert Hall's topic in The Lounge
Decent reliability, poor mileage, poor driving dynamics. It'd be about the last CUV I bought, personally. -
Do cars that were one generation in a line of successors count? For example- Diablo, Ferrari F355, etc?

Well, the Audi R8 and Huracan share platforms, so there's that. The question becomes if they start going down-market, how do they manage the brand's cachet, and how do they prevent stepping on Audi and Porsche's toes? Right now, the Huracan sits too low to put a model in below it, realistically. The 580-2 is well under 200K and is too far below the 650S and and 488 in terms of power. There is going to need to be at the very least a mid-cycle improvement where the Huracan sees a power bump and price increase to make room for this. Then it becomes a matter of how high can the mid-level car go w/out making the Aventador superfluous. Unless the big dog is knocking on 800hp, how does a 650+ hp Huracan let it exist? And what powerplants are you going to use for these cars? Keep different engines? Use the same one in different states of tune a la McLaren? Lots to think about here.

Motor Trend's BDC Extension Test- M2, FoRS, More

I highly questioned the finishing order. Some of the things they used as reasoning for one car finishing further down were things they held against a car higher up. Take the Boxster vs the Fiat, for instance. If the cars have the same cons, but one offers vastly more performance and capability, why would it finish worse? The Porsche should have won this all day long. Fiat should have been mid-pack at best. -
So with our new Commander in Chief taking office, it gave me a good idea for a Dream Garage Thread. Obama held office from the beginning of 2009 to just a few days ago. So let's use his time of rule as a timeline to make our choices from. Rules- 1) Production cars only. 2) Maximum of 5 choices. 3) Vehicles MUST have been sold in YOUR market. 4) These are your only vehicles. 5) Choices MUST be from 2009-2016 MY range. Nothing newer or older. Enjoy.

Saw the Alfa Guilia Quadrifoglio at the show. Car doesn't do much for me still. It was a rather nice color, but the car just doesn't have a cohesive design, imo. A local dealer had the new Aston DB11. It looks better in person than photos, and it was attracting a lot of attention. I still like the current Vanquish better. The new Pacifica I was rather impressed with. The loaded model I sat in had a beautiful interior, with great materials, design, and high fit/finish levels. ChryCo in their entirety had a great setup. Lots of models, different trims, a few Mopar builds. Probably the best display of the show. Good looking models of the human variety, too.

It's not just peak power, though. The entire power curve well be better on the TT V6. Not to mention tuning potential.

I don't see why they would. It'd step all on the GT's toes.

There's still so many sections that are closed off and not used. Hell, just the hall where the non-auto related vendors are at could hold a few more. Then then there's spot taken up by the old retirees and their Corvettes. That could hold another maker with ease. There's room.

Please. There's so much space left over that BMW, Audi, MB, Bentley, Jaguar, Rolls, Lambo, McLaren, Porsche, Ferrari, all could have displays.

Friday evening, I went to the show to check out some new metal and see people's impressions. Unfortunately, I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked- only about 1.5 hours. Here are some of my takes from it- Starting with my own brand, VW's display was a joke. The cars looked great, and they had good variety of trims, but there were some glaring omissions. There was no Golf R on display. No Atlas or Tiguan. I obviously didn't expect to see any concepts like the I.D.s or anything, but the Tiguan and Atlas have already been revealed in their production guise. Not displaying your two newest offerings in the hottest market segment, at a show that is taking place in the winter with recent bad weather fresh on a lot of buyer's minds was an oversight of epic proportions. Such blunders really concern me. If something so simple, easy, and cheap could be ignored and taken advantage of, what difficult things are they missing? That said, there were a lot of people looking at the VW products, and asking the reps ?'s, so that was a good sign. BMW, Audi, and MB were all absent. This is really a slap in the face to a lot of prospective buyers. Lexus and Acura were there. As was Cadillac and Lincoln. But the G3 couldn't be bothered to show? Ridiculous. Acura had an NSX there. People were gawking around it. I'm not a big fan. It was my first time seeing one in person, and the car gets a major 'meh' from me. Chevy had a new Equinox there. Looked quite good, but it was up on a stand where you couldn't get in it or anything. More stupidity. Chevy's display was pretty week overall. Not as many cars as I'd have expected. Nothing really standout. Ford's was better. They had a load of cars, different trims and specs. The Focus ST was getting a ton of attention. As were the trucks. Lincoln had several models. I sat in pretty much all of them. Left very unimpressed. The Continental, in particular, was underwhelming. They didn't have MSRP's, but I know the car I sat it was upwards of 75K, and it didn't feel like it at all. Fit and finish was a joke. Just plain cloth headliner. Knobs and other chrome trim felt and looked cheap. The places where wood, 'metal', and leather/other materials met weren't flush or had poor fitment. Car is a joke. It'd be nice for 60K, but pushing 80K? Lincoln done lost their damn minds. I'll add more as I get time.

Saw the car in the flesh last night at the STL Auto Show. They had a nicely optioned non-GT Coupe in bright metallic blue w/ white stripe, and 20" wheels. I have to eat my words. Car looked pretty damn good.

Coupe- Lamborghini Miura is just flawless. Aston One-77 is a very close second though, and easily the best of any modern car.

I want a Bentley.

For their sake, I sure as hell hope so. Also, showed this to my wife, and she pretty much demanded we buy one if it's built, so.

You guys are nuts. Droopy headlights. Mismatched jagged lower openings and recesses. Thing looks like a Japanese cartoon character that has consumed some sedatives and then been frightened by something.

I like this thread idea. I've done something similar in the past over at MT. That said, I don't think the old W Bodies were pieces of crap. Idk, I mean for their era and everything?? Reatta I'd say is a valid pick.
