How do you separate preference from bias?
Frisky Dingo replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in The Lounge
I just always try to remind myself to separate my feelings for a brand or it's fans from my impressions of a car. For instance, I like a lot of Ferrari models. The brand as a whole, I'm not a fan of in the slightest. GM, on the other hand, I like in general. But some of their cars are total duds, and I won't hold back from calling them such. I try to judge a car as though I don't know what the maker is, and I don't subject it to my own personal preferences over how the car performs it's intended function. -
So, with this past weekend being the true greatest spectacle in motorsports- the 24hrs of LeMans- I thought it could make for a good UDG thread. Rules- 1) Maximum of 5 cars. 2) Cars can be from any era/year. 3) Cars MUST be OVERALL winners to be eligible. 4) Your selection MUST also be the ACTUAL RACE WINNING CAR. Not a different car of the same make/mfr because you like that team/livery/etc better. In other words, down to the exact number and driver combo. * I will do a separate thread for non-race winning cars, so don't get hung up over that one.

It's easily an entire generation ahead of the ST. And in just 2 years, there will be an all-new one.

No way. The more I see and read, the less I like it. It's absolutely juvenile and tacky in the worst ways possible, and it does not offer the real world performance to compare to it's targeted peers. I think I'm going to tune my GTI in the next month or so, and if I do, I can't wait to catch one of these on the skreetz.

Offset head-on with a slight angle frontal impact with a Toyota Sequoia. I remember reading the original article a few months back. -

Ultimate Dream Garage: $100K Ceiling Toy Edition
Frisky Dingo replied to Frisky Dingo's topic in The Lounge
Wow, nothing even in the 90's!!! Surprised with that. -
Been too long since I did one of these, so here's a fresh one for you guys. Rules on this are simple- 1) Maximum of 5 choices 2) Any era and market is allowed 3) These vehicle are solely for driving enjoyment; no need to pick DD's, family haulers, etc 4) You can only choose ONE new vehicle, rest must be used 5) Price MUST be under $100,000 PER VEHICLE. No exceptions- no 105K, nothing contingent upon a discount, etc. Must be able to prove your choice. 6) You can choose ONE vehicle that is not street-legal. Can be a racecar, rock crawler, etc. 7) If your choice is well under the 100K mark, feel free to list any modifications you would do it- up to engine swaps, bolt-ons, etc, etc. Have fun!!

Hyundai News:2018 Hyundai Kona Brings the Funky
Frisky Dingo replied to William Maley's topic in Hyundai
Love it. It's funky, and bold, and unique and the car market needs more of that. It looks fantastic in that nuclear green. Well done, Hyundai. -
The Passat is getting that engine concurrently with the new generation coming out.

Totally valid points. I like the Lambo's styling much more, but the Ferrari enjoys too much of a gap in driving pleasure for me to pass it over. -
2018 Volkswagen Atlas SE 3.6 AWD w/ technology
Frisky Dingo replied to regfootball's topic in Reader Reviews
Plus, I can just imagine how fun it'd be with a JB4 93 tune. 250-260hp and 300tq in that thing would be a riot. And keep the warranty. -
Would You Rather: Early 00's Lite-Supercar Edition
Frisky Dingo replied to Frisky Dingo's topic in The Lounge
After much deliberation, I have to go with the F430 by a slim margin. I'm a much bigger fan of the later Gallardos, but the early cars were understeery, not that fast, and lack the finesse of the Prancing Horse, and their reliability and looks don't save them for me. I'd take a Blu Abu Dhabi Coupe w/ the gated manual -

Sounds like the management of that place is on crack.

Today supercar shoppers are spoiled for choice. There's more supercar, and almost-supercar choices than you set on fire. Some of them do that themselves, though. But it wasn't always like this. No, rewind 13-14 years, and there but 2 real options- the Ferrari F430, and the Lamborghini Gallardo. The F430 was the gorgeous 360 Modena's uglier, but more athletic successor. A car that continued Ferrari's foray into the digital age that their cars now reside in. The Gallardo was the car that saved Lamborghini and was the first full product developed by their overlords- the VW Group. Sometimes called the Camry of supercars, there are more Gallardos than every Lamborghini built before it put together. You must choose between the cars in their base form, only as they were offered in the 2004 MY. HOWEVER, feel free to make an additional pick of the one you'd have if allowed to choose from either car in thier various iterations throughout their entire production span. Or, if you're feeling really frisky, maybe even do a 5 car Dream Garage collection of them. So, which Italian entry level supercar would you prefer- 2004 Gallardo 2004 F430

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. U WOT MATE??? It's a MF'ing Civic with 30% less power than the average minivan has. And they're not doing test drives?!?! What damn joke. I would have told them to pound sand and keep their POS, slow-ass Civic, that I was going to go buy a GTI- you know, a proper hot hatch.

So, I've had a good week as far as fun vehicles and test drives go. A quick run-down on a few- Roush Supercharged Raptor with full ICON suspension (3" lift) and 35's- Wow, what a beast. The guy that traded it in said it had 700hp, but he's full of it. Their website says the Stage 1 setup is good for 525hp, and that sounds right. Either way, for a big truck, the thing moved out pretty good. It had no problem lighting up the back 35's and with the headers and full exhaust, it sounded absolutely monstrous. this thing would scare little kids. It was extremely loud, but still sounded really, really good. It was a total chore to drive, though. No way would I want to DD that thing. MB CLS63 AMG w/ RENNtech R1 Pkg- This one really does have 700hp. Well, 696, anyway. And more importantly, 800 lb-ft of tq. This thing was just retarded. It had some of the most absolutely savage acceleration I've ever experienced in a car. You had better have a big gap in front of you if you plan on taking the right pedal to the firewall on this one. The first time I laid into it, my passenger's sunglasses got launched off her head (onto the back shelf) and the sunroof shade slid all the way open from the closed position. The way it fully comes on at about 3.5k rpm is truly eye-widening speed accumulation. Absolutely no way I could have such a car for a regular driver. I'd get my license revoked. It's too fast, and it's too effortless to catapult to 'arrest me' speeds in the span of a block. Damn if it wasn't fun though, and it would make a killer cross-country car. I got a much longer drive in the LP550-2 Spyder. I may have been a little too harsh on it the first time. The E-gear is still a huge sore spot, and it's not the most direct/responsive driver's car by any stretch of the imagination, but there is a certain organic feeling to the steering and neutrality to the handling that is appealing. I think a manual Balboni Spyder would just be mega, and it's well-deserved of the many times its found its way onto my 'Dream Garage' lists.

Yeah, I think the Tiguan is going to be a big hit. It pretty much has to, but still. I'm thinking Orange or White Silver on a Tiguan, and if I buy one of those, it's definitely going to be fully loaded. -
