VW News: Volkswagen Isn't Planning to Send the Polo to the U.S.
Frisky Dingo replied to William Maley's topic in Volkswagen
Well, duh. There was never any REAL danger of this making it to our market. And sadly, it's probably for the best. As much as I'd love a Polo GTI, there would be to much overlap with the Golf, and the sales numbers probably wouldn't support it. Also, VW NA has shown themselves to be incredibly incompetent at figuring out what trim levels to build, how to equip and price them, etc, etc. They're about to bring out a brand-new Tiguan that even in 38K SEL Premium form won't have ventilated seats. So dumb. Takes it off my potential list of vehicles to replace my wife's Rav4. From what I can tell, the new Arteon won't offer them either. -

Lastly, for cross country travels in speed and style, I'd need a new LC500 with a custom ProCharger setup and some dope HRE's. -
Ultimate Dream Garage: Highly Modified Edition
Frisky Dingo replied to Frisky Dingo's topic in The Lounge
For my daily driver, I'd want something fun, fast and still usable. I'd upgrade to an R, go big turbo, full suspension, big brakes, and maybe an aftermarket kit of some sort. Something like this- -

I'd have to something for some off-road fun, and for that, I'd take a Wrangler Unlimited and sent it to AEV for their Brute setup using a 6.4 Hemi, and some reasonable tires, probably 35's. -
Ultimate Dream Garage: Highly Modified Edition

Really wanted to include a V8 swapped Miata in mine, but with it's inclusion in both posters so far, I will pass. In it's place for back road runs and track day events, I'd go with a new Cayman, with an RUF body kit, and swap in the 4.0 H6 from a wrecked GT3RS/R/.2 GT3- I'd want something in my garage with an obscene amount of power for highway/runway fun, and I thought about a TT Z06, but decided to go with something even more outlandish. I'd do a new R8 w/ body kit modeled after the GT3 car, and an UGR turbo kit with a solid street setup in the low-1,000 whp range. -
Okay, got a new one of these that will hopefully see more players than the LeMans one. The concept is simple. You will choose NEW vehicles to serve as the basis for a very heavy build. We usually pick vehicles we think are pretty much spot-on in stock form, but this one gives you the opportunity to maybe pick something that you feel is missing from the OEM. Rules- 1) Vehicles must be brand new 2017 or 2018 MY, with all specs, photos, and details released. So no '18 Wranglers. 2) Maximum of 5 vehicles. 3) Any market is allowed. 4) All of your choices must be heavily modified. I shouldn't have to tell you what this means. Bolt-ons and wheels is not heavily modified. An engine swap, a widebody kit, a conversion, etc, etc is. The sky is really the limit here, so have a ball. 5) These are your only vehicles. 6) Lastly, your vehicles must be able to be driven on the street. That doesn't mean they need to be street legal. Just that you could get away with taking them out and not causing a scene.

Dumb was for an escalade to die...
Frisky Dingo replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in The Lounge
I saw this. Shit is crazy!! Biker was an idiot, but ultimately the driver's fault. Tried to take out the biker, then lost control of his car. Dumbass. When you gonna post pics up of your car?!? -
Honda News: More Civic Type R Variants Are Being Considered
Frisky Dingo replied to William Maley's topic in Honda
If they toned down the styling a bit, put SH-AWD in, a DCT, and a few more lux features, they'd have a great car. Then maybe a more stripped model with smaller wheels, etc, etc.- 32 replies

Dodge News: Dodge's Creative Way Of Reducing Demon Markups
Frisky Dingo replied to William Maley's topic in Dodge
Oh, I would too. I could easily build a 911 I'd be happy with out for about 110K all in. Figure in what you can actually buy that car for- ~7% off, and you're coming in a hair over 100 flat. As for the TT RS, if the last car is anything to go buy, the RS will enjoy significantly better residual values down the road. Audi RS cars typically do well anyway, and TT should only be more so.- 25 replies

Toyota News: Is Toyota Working On A Hotter GT 86?
Frisky Dingo replied to William Maley's topic in Toyota
Haha, wow. This thread makes for a good read now, huh?? -
I distinctly remember these cars from my short stint at Nissan, and I hate the Sentra. It's so cheap and lame. I felt bad any time someone wanted to look at one. The SR Turbo and NISMO are jokes. Somehow, they're better with the CVT than the manual.

Dodge News: Dodge's Creative Way Of Reducing Demon Markups
Frisky Dingo replied to William Maley's topic in Dodge
Well, I'm trying to limit my comparison to new cars that share at least a somewhat similar philosophy. A 2LT Z06 with a few options comes in right around the Demon's starting price. For a car with similar straight line ability with minimal investment, and way more performance in other areas. 85 grand is a solid 10K away from a base 911, and there's no way I'd drop 85K on a Cayman. I'd save 10 grand and buy a loaded TT RS. Better straight line acceleration and power, more character, AWD, and all the handling I could ever want on the street.- 25 replies

Meh. I can see both sides of it, honestly. Although, even it at MSRP, I couldn't fathom buying a Demon over one of these-- 25 replies

I like this idea, but I don't know about using the SMART name. I don't think it's looked upon very favorably or has much equity. That said, I don't have any alternative ideas.

How do you separate preference from bias?
Frisky Dingo replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in The Lounge
You have it totally backwards. The Camaro is the best car of the 3. That said, it's the worst Pony Car, and it's the worst muscle car. If it were my money, I'd buy a Mustang GT Coupe. -

I hate to do so many is such a short range, but the 90's through mid-2000's was by far my favorite era of sports car racing. It was when I discovered endurance racing, and it was before today's format of enclosed cars with hybrid systems and whatnot. There was a much more direct link to road cars back then, and I miss that. 1970- Porsche KG Salzburg 917K 1987 (my birth year)- Rothmans Porsche 962C 1998- Porsche AG 911 GT1-98 1999- BMW Motorsport V12 LMR 2000- Audi Sport Team Joest R8 -
