Think about exceeding the mileage ratings in this when they come out, like most diesels do.. That'd probably be in the..31..mpg highway range? Just trying to compare to the 3/0 from Ram which is rated at 29mpg highway. Maybe this little Duramax can hit 32-33mpg cruising at reasonable speeds. Agreed that the premium for a diesel make the break even point quite a few miles/years to where it really isn't worth it unless you're putting some serious miles in annually. I disagree with the break-even logic. You can drive the truck till the wheels fall off and reap tons of benefits of higher lifetime fuel economy...OR you can sell it and get back a chunk of the money because the diesel is worth more. It's not like the $3730 extra just evaporates when you drive the truck off the lot, waiting for gas benefits to cancel it out. You are correct in if you own it will the wheels fall off, without a doubt. I guess I was just assuming(which we know what that does..) that most don't keep their vehicles that long. I just don't like the selling part as part of the investment. I realize that a higher resale value is definitely a part of the equation..I just don't like it.. It "feels" weird. A lot of your return is only when you sell it. Unless you're keeping it forever then it is diesel reliability and fuel economy. It definitely does and even moreso when it is an engine option.

F. YES. -
Wow. That's actually really awesome.. Hopefully everything can go well for them and eventually bring it back. But not the crappy H2/H3 stuff.. Like the real stuff.. Or atleast differentiate the H2 more from the Suburban.

I think that is $h!ty leaving it up to a dealer to call the shots on. Of course they will lowball the hell out of it, they're the ones who have to try and resell it. I know it wouldn't be easy but they should have regional appraisors do the deed, a 3rd party. Otherwise these owners will just be getting trade in value for their truck, aka: ripped off again. They're already dealing with an issue that's been ongoing for 3-6 years(depending on the year of the truck). They don't need to get tossed around again.

But isn't 40% of 500,000 still a whopping 200,000 X $10K equaling $2 Billion? Good thing Sergio stole that $2 Billion from GM back in 2002. Seriously wish this would put them out of business. Hate Foreign companies. Would love GM being able to pick up Jeep for pennies on the dollar uh huh, as I have said, hating a company just to hate it.... And you are still ignoring these trucks will be resold which is going wipe a VAST majority of that price out. PLUS, the customer DOES NOT have to sell back and many won't because the depreciated price will be nowhere what it will take to get a new and equal replacement. You should also watch your wishing because how long is it until the government starts forcing GM to buyback all those millions of cars with faulty ignitions that aren't fixed yet? This is a VERY dangerous precedent that is set........... I'm still not understanding how they will make much profit at all off these trucks reselling them.. If they are bought back at the purchase price minus depreciation that's the value of the truck. They'll have to sell above the value, correct? I'm not trying to be a dick but am I wrong? If so, please correct me(seriously, not trying to be a dick). I'm just curious at this point. You misunderstand me. I am not saying they will make a profit or even break even, just that when all is said and done the impact will not be anything eve remotely close to what Casa is hinting at. I agree that it is very VERY unlikely to be all 200,000 trucks. But I could still see it causing issues if they buy back a truck(because they have to) and then it just sits and sits and sits because they can't unload it because of the price they had to pay for it then just end up taking a loss.. Ya know what.. I just don't know.. Like TAF said "So much gray area people..."

How is it a dealer's wet dream? They aren't buying them back at a trade-in price(where there is plenty of room for profits). They're buying them back at retail prices, right? price paid - depreciation. They will have to try and resell above market value.

You are 100% correct. Which, is why I do love my EcoBoost.. for everyday driving where the revs are kept below 3k it's perfect. They make a good amount of torque at pretty low RPMs. I think this is what the EcoBoost Challenge is all about. Parking lot test driving, correct? So they will only be using the low-mid range which is where the EcoBoost will win over people. They don't make crazy peak hp numbers but their low end(usable) tq is very sufficient. Speaking of which.. I need to stop by a buddy of mine to drive his new Fiesta with the 1.0EB. I need to see how that little guy runs. So far my friend love it, but it's only a couple weeks old.

"Fusion In Fancy Duds:" C/D Tests '15 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid Black Label
ccap41 replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
I can agree with that. I think a few of the Lincolns look really really sharp, same with Cadillacs. I totaly dig the "arts and science" thing. As for comparing to the CLA and A3, aren't those two smaller than the MKZ? Or are they larger than I'm thinking..? -

ccap41 replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
The interior is standard at that price.. A Black Label MKZ starts at $45,605. That ugly paint job in the article is a $1700 option..no thanks. The hybrid is the same price as the base 2.0T. They must have had their loaded with all of the mud flaps and cargo nets to hit 55k with the hybrid/base engine. Ccap to clarify I meant that a Black Label interior should be standard equipment on every MKZ. The current base interior is not significant enough jump from a Fusion for the base price of the MKZ at 36K. I gotcha I gotcha, understandable. I didn't realize the MKZ started so reasonable at 36k.. Granted you probably can't find one for under 40k..but still. -

The consumer also isn't forced to sell their vehicle back. Because they would likely need to up their payment to get a new vehicle to replace their old one I don't see all 500,000 selling them back. Now if they are just pissed off about the situation and want to get out of their Ram and switch to a Ferd or Chervy, I see that the more likely situation for them selling back to the manufacturer. Because, like Casa said, if they are only getting 10k(their purchase price minus depreciation is what the buyback price is) then they can't get $h! for that price and will still need to throw down nearly 30k(that is only at 10k - I doubt many have depreciated that low.) Trucks hold their value pretty well. Actually, would this cause them to depreciate even more?

Ouch.. I've had days like that at about every job..Long, rough days. Usually larger teams so on the terrible days it wouldn’t be just me so it may be a bad day but at least somebody was suffering with me..

Hey it's the small victories some days that make life easier..having 3 people in your department today. How many are there supposed to me? That's what I thought when he told me about the Silverado as well..

Close friend of mine's dad just picked this up. Not exactly the trim I would go with but it's stupid nice. My friend tried to convince his dad to get the little red guy over there. Now that one is more up my ally.. dark grill, no chrome wheels.. His dad was coming from a '12 F150. This time they again test drove a Silverado as it was the only other truck that peaked his interest. And odd quote from my friend when they were test driving, " We test drove a Silverado First. God they are lame." then his next text was "well ok, they're fine as long as yuo're sitting in the front seats. The back is way more cramped with no AC vents back there aaaaaaaand if the front person is using the cooled seats it actually blows hot air right on the person in the back. It's miserable" I thought that was SUPER odd that the seat cooling system would work like that in any vehicle.

This past weekend we had our anual "Bro Float"(huge group of just guys - no broads allows!) and we rent one big-ass van and then somebody else usually takes a truck for extra storage. Well my buddy recently bought a 2010 Ram 2500 with the Cummins 6.6 and a 6spd(he works on farms and actually uses the truck for what it's made for - the day before he was towing 20,000lbs). That engine was an absolute monster at any speed. My friend is a very conservative driver like myself and our 200 mile(one way) trip on the interstate and through mountains we got 19.2mpg - round trip. I don't know what the tow package had but that thing was geared super low. 70mph on the interstate was turning nearly 2500rpm in 6th. He actually would start in 3rd 90% of the time because 1st is for those 20,000lb loads and second was just as short. 3rd gear ever bogged it down once nor was he slipping the clutch for an hour. Also where we filled up at diesel was only $2.25/gallon!! The trip itself went according to plan. We all just got super wasty while floating down the river with no women to tell us to slow down lol. Everything was within walking distance so that rocked. I managed to convince some bar owner to let us in and drink(just 3 of us at this point in the night). It was right at 1am and they were supposed to be closing right then. We ended up drinking with the owner and bartenders for a couple of hours and I only remember having to pay for our first beers. It rocked.

"Fusion In Fancy Duds:" C/D Tests '15 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid Black Label
ccap41 replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
This is a Black Label though.. I think they are pretty much loaded to the gills already. Plus, with this being a Black Label there are other benefits that go well beyond the vehicle price itself. http://www.lincoln.com/blacklabel/memberprivileges/ Beyond $50k, I'm not remotely interested in this car unless they put the 2.7EB under the hood. I won't disagree there.. It isn't worth 50k. I was just say'n. Definitely peak a little interest if they threw the 2.7 in it. -

Only needed one example because your opening line was "Every EcoBoost-powered Ford that we’ve tested, Mustang or otherwise, has either delivered decent fuel economy or served up great power-but never both simultaneously." And it was a C/D review, in July of this year. Well I missed the edit window.. So I'll just post everything seperate.. Only needed one example because your opening line was "Every EcoBoost-powered Ford that we’ve tested, Mustang or otherwise, has either delivered decent fuel economy or served up great power-but never both simultaneously." And my example was a C/D review, in July of this year. Their staff should get on the same page. From that article it seems like they are more upset about packaging rather than the engine itself. And I'll agree. I think Ford's packaging can be really $h!ty. I mean unless you want to custom order a vehicle with the "ala carte" options but then you are definitely paying full MSRP for that. I've tried building Fords online and there seems to be 1 feature I want from each equipment group that totally jacks the price up. Example, I tried to build a MKC online. I wanted the 2.3, AWD. Simple start.. Then it has basically everything I always want at that point exept I wanted to add adaptive cruise control and the larger wheels. Two seperate packages.. 10k to get those two things. F that.
