  1. I was referring to other parts of the world, like Europe, where people still appreciate driving and almost all cars offer manual transmissions--and with high take rates too. Also, technically it's the electronic/computer age making us fat not so much cars. The auto industry has been booming for much longer than the obesity epidemic in the US. People in Europe drive manuals because up until very very very recently, manual transmissions were much more efficient than automatics and provided substantially better performance in low displacement/low power engines. Also, automatics were a substantial upcharge in frugal post-war Europe. If you're buying a Vauxhall Astra, an automatic transmission could be 10% - 15% increase in sticker price. Europe's fondness for the manual has nothing to do with "appreciating driving" and everything to do with $10 per gallon gasoline (adjust for inflation as you go back in time). The only reason that manuals are still popular in Europe even though automatics have achieved efficiency parity is that old habits and opinions are hard to break. I'm pretty sure that's over simplifying. Otherwise why would European manufacturers, particularly German ones, pride themselves on sharp handling and dynamics? Why are automatics still typically relegated to older or disabled folks that can't comfortably work 3 pedals? Maybe at one point there was necessity, but it seems to have also spawned a culture of people that enjoy fun-to-drive cars and prefer to shift their own gears.

  3. They pulled the Silverado superbowl commercial too, didn't they? I want to say it was taken off the air after about a month. I know there were complaints from one of the other truck brands like immediately.
  4. I can't get past the new exterior design language. Well that and the CVT. I'd be inclined to at least try the Edge Sport at the same price point as the others. The CVT is super smooth and paired with the VQ is nicely refined. When you consider what the Murano is meant to be, comfy family cruiser rather than sports car, the CVT makes sense. I don't think CVTs ever make sense, so that argument falls on deaf ears. Of course if the gearing war continues at 9 speeds and beyond, my opinion of conventional automatics wont be any better. What doesn't make sense? I have no desire to ever own a CVT equipped vehicle. As much as a conventional auto takes away from driver involvement and feel versus a manual, a CVT takes it that much further. I don't condone the appliance mentality so wide spread in the U.S., we invented the automotive society, and we seem to be the first to take it for granted and suck the life out of it. I also read that the CVT feel is one of the #1 complaints about Nissan cars from consumers, so I'm not just some crotchety conservative 28 year old!

  6. It was my understanding that the Silverado may not go the route of an Aluminum frame in the way that Ford has in the FSeries. This is GREAT advertising GM "manning up." Love it. Nothing wrong with them going for the juggler.. it is the way Americans used to be.. when we were great. Now U have weak people always trying to "play nice" and be "PC." I guarantee I could search out a Ford commercial that uses similar ploys to dictate its supposed superiority. Heck, I remember 2 years ago when the Poolside commercial came out.. Ford fans, in their usual hypocritical way, had no issue with the Ford mockery I wish GM had of just named the Colorado "Silverado 1000" like Ford does with its various FSeries and this market share argument would be null. Heck. The Combined GM Trucks sold almost 80K last month, the Silvy alone selling within 4K of the FSeries, with Colorado on the same lot, not to mention the Tahoe and Suburban. Man, it pissed me off when they pulled "Pool Side." I was hoping they'd do a series of those types of commercials for the Cadillac line up because they had attitude and charisma, but everyone has to be f@#king offended these days. It drives me CRAZY. Freedom of speech, my ass. You're free to say whatever you want... as long as it's in line with the current liberal agenda and wont make anyone uncomfortable. Well Caitlyn Jenner made me f@#king uncomfortable. Not because she changed gender, but because the magazine sexualized her, a woman in her 60s. I was chastised like a bigot on social media for my opinion. Hell, there have even been a smattering of cases across the country where people were told not to display the American flag--as in the stars and stripes--now THAT is a tremendous crock of horsesh*t. The country needs to collectively get its head out of its ass, and soon. Sorry, soapbox moment.
  7. That's pretty cool. A CTS 2.0T with a tune (available up to 315 hp/330 lb-ft) and the suspension package could be a pretty sweet-driving luxury car, if you don't mind the blender noises under the hood.

  9. The woman living there should really find someone to help her unload those cars. Such a waste! She could live comfortably by selling some of that stuff. The "collection" doesn't do anyone any good just sitting there and deteriorating.
  10. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/suvs/1507_2015_ford_edge_nissan_murano_hyundai_santa_fe_sport_comparison/ 1st Place - Nissan Murano V6 4048 lbs 260 hp/240 lb-ft 0-60: 7.4 sec 2nd Place - Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T 3983 lbs 265 hp/269 lb-ft 0-60: 9.3 sec 3rd Place - Ford Edge Sport 2.7T 4406 lbs 315 hp/350 lb-ft 0-60: 5.7 sec All vehicles cost roughly $40,000. Ford sent them an Edge Sport because that's allegedly all they had. It was an odd comparison to follow because you have the three vehicles occupying completely different performance personalities. If anything, the Edge was hurt by the sport package because it wasn't comfortable or fuel efficient compared to the other two. And then there was utterly abysmal acceleration from the Santa Fe 2.0T. What's the point of the 2.0T engine when it's no better than the base 2.4L GDI? While this was a pretty scathing review for the new Ford Edge in its top trim, it seems like all the Nissan really had to do to win was land in the Goldilocks zone out of the 3 cars. It also had a surprisingly good looking and functional interior. The VQ V6 posted the best fuel economy of the trio.
  11. So the new Lacrosse will not share the Impala's platform? I guess that makes sense, should shave a few hundred pounds compared to the current gen. I'm curious what they plan to do with the next gen model. It's important Buick extends the luxury further with powertrains. Thus far Buick's gotten a pass for sharing Chevy powertrains because the cars were FINALLY worthy of entry lux status. Now we need to see some high output AWD models that you can't buy with a bowtie.
  12. Hey dude, good to see you again.
  13. That commercial is hilarious! Finally some life from GM advertising.
  14. I wound up skipping the Dorman sway bar. The moog stabilizer links are very nice products, though, about twice as thick and much more sturdy looking than the stock parts. Car is driving silently once again. Feels smoother, but I'm pretty sure it's the placebo effect of not hearing the knocking/rattle noise.
  15. Hmmm. I'd lean toward a Terminator reference because one of the first reporters was Sarah O'Connor. Apparently she's never seen the movies and was completely shocked when the internet erupted following her tweet.
  16. The deeper I get into GT6 the more subtle things are pissing me off. 1. Why are so many 600pp racing series restricted to sport-hard tires? It's asinine. Miraculously, none of the computer opponents ever eat it coming out of a turn, or get loose and spin out. 2. Computer performance bias is waaayyy too noticeable. Somehow the #1 car flies out ahead by 10 seconds in the first half of the race, then magically runs out of steam back to normal. 3. Power points vary dramatically from car to car. Some cars are impossible to make competitive as a result. 4. What the f@#k is the point of having multiple tune presets per car if some of the settings change universally? Who thought that was a GOOD idea?! Christ, I'm constantly adjusting a car every time I race.
  17. An ignorant person could say that, sure, but YOU said it because you're Wings and you can't say anything about GM without a passive aggressive comment or thinly veiled criticism. It's why you don't get banned, yet still have -40 reputation points accrued in a month. really? REALLY???? All I did was make a simple shocked statement on price. All the rest is dust and nonsense for which you have contributed twice now. As for my negative points, a mod confirmed that nearly all of them are from one person who adores me so much that he makes sure you subtracts in every one of my posts, regardless. I will try to move on with my life though. Cue the victim commentary. We've heard it before, over and over again. You're so surprised when people get tired of your 1-dimensional contributions. If you want to "move on with your life" why did you follow us to C&G? The internet is VAST, and you show up within a week of us migrating from MT.
  18. I didn't realize Ford fleet sales were 35% overall. Chrysler has really come a long way, so why is Marchionne acting like the company is on the brink? Is that because of the european operations?
  19. Holy crap, seriously? That's a big deal.

  21. Are you implying that's overpriced? This thing is basically a 4-door Corvette Z06 (same engine, same 8-speed automatic, same electronic LSD, same magnetic ride, etc). When you add the CF package, it's damn near Z07-level track prepped. World class performance doesn't come cheap. Can't afford it? There's an ATS-V or CTS Vsport for $60-70k. Can't afford that either? Then you need to choose between luxury OR performance, because you can't have both.
  22. Saw a Cadillac post on facebook about a summer sales event coming up. It's on the home page of their website too. Looks like a lot of the models offer 0% APR for 60 mo.
  23. Appearances can be deceiving: "The results represent GM’s best June for retail deliveries since 2007 and its best June for retail market share since 2011." Despite the raw numbers, June was a solid win for GM.
