Real Measure of Success: Cadillac ATPs Up 15% for June 2015
oldshurst442 replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Cadillac
Nah...that is not it with Ferrari. Lots of stupid rules Bernie incorporates... Like this new generation racer. Void of all wonderful noises that makes F1 appealing to most. And who is on the forefront of aforementioned wonderful noises? The one company that is INFAMOUSLY famous for producing wonderful, glorifying, beautiful music from their engines... That would be Ferrari. Ferrari is F1....F1 is Ferrari... This is like in baseball. Everyone hates the Yankees. Including myself. But baseball IS the Yankees and those pinstripes. Yeah...yeah...yeah... The Red Sox and the Cubs...and the Brooklyn Dodgers....BOO freakin' Hoo....the Yankees are da team... Well....Ferrari is the same...It dont matter if Ferrari is losing...one wants to see the famous red Ferrari racer wailing by... Wailing by is the key phrase. And other stupid moves, rules and regulations that favour other manufacturers while handicapping others.... Dont ask me for proof...I dont follow F1 anymore because I got tired of those "rules". I used to follow Jacques Villeneuve back in the day...but trying to remember what rule changes were done to limit the Williams teams and then BAR to favor Ferrari...yeah...the irony...and McLaren-Mercedes only to change the rules again to handicap McLaren-Mercedes...is like...impossible...It is far too long ago for me to remember specifics and I wouldnt know where to look for proof...So....it may seem like hot air that I just spewed...it dont matter...I know that is the trutth... -
Jeep News: Jeep Grand Cherokee Redesigned Pushed Back to 2018 or 2019

well, the 1st generation was great, and Jeep found ways to improve the formula. And...this is why it aint such a big deal for the next generation Cherokee to be introduced in 2018 or 2019. Very true, except I never thought the 05-10 were that great and preferred the prvious gen. That generation was engineered in conjunction with Daimler-Benz, right? I dont really know too much about it because I hated M-B at that point in time because of the so called "merger of equals" so I lost all interest in anything Daimler-Chrysler built. Other than the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger of course. Oh...Viper too. Yeah I know....Mopar LX cars are M-B derived...but Mopar changed them up so much that the LX cars were/are purely Mopar. From a design perspective...they are ugly. They became too bulky....and boxy...not that I mind boxy in SUVs...but this type of boxy was horribly done. Its like stupid M-B designers didnt like the rounded corners of the original Grand Cherokee and decided to cut corners...yes pun intended...and squared off the "roundedness" like an after thought... I dont know if Italian flair was in the air with this generation...but it seems like the nice rounded corners came back...a nice welcome back.- 16 replies

Even Ferrari is threatening Bernie to leave F1 if he doesnt improve his racing league... If I was SMK...I wouldnt have presented this as an argument...It dont do his argument any good. Oh well...the man loves his Mercedes Benz....leave him be. Here..SMK...I dedicate song for you. -
Fiat Looks To Maserati To Become A Profit Driver :Comments
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Maserati
I did not know about Lancia's fate...Old news is what I was counting on. Thanx for the insight, Drew. I agree El K. (most people call you 'Bong...well...I aint most people. I prefer to call you El K. ) About the platforms and how they use them. Maserati could work like you said about an Omega type platform and then Alfa Romeo using it and even Chrysler as an Imperial. But I have a dilemma in my thought process in that Alpha Romeo would need to grow into that role as well...the role of high end...high high end luxury as well. Overlap is what I am talking about. And there is overlap between Chrsyler and Alfa Romeo...and if Sergio limits overlap between Chrysler and Alfa...and lets Chrysler sit at premium level...even below premium, there is over lap with Dodge. And what happens with Fiat? Dodge cars are certainly not Fiat cars in terms hof what Dodge's DNA is made up of... Meaning...a Dodge Dart based on a Fiat may pass muster...but Dodge never had any Pandas in their line-up...it was always Chargers....Challengers...Vipers...Stealth...you know...mean oriented things...not cute and cuddly Pandas...yeah I know...Pandas are vicious...but women always go gaga over Pandas...but when facing a Viper...women scream in fear...and THAT is what Dodge is all about...Screaming in fear... What Im trying to say is that Fiat and Dodge...when sharing a platform...the automobile that is meant for a Fiat will be the complete opposite of what Dodge will have to sell in order for both brands to actually pull off platform sharing together... I dont know If my thought process is clear...but it is what it is... -
I guess Cadillac and the WWF or as its called now...WWE...go a long way. I used to watch this stuff on and off from the mid 1980s to the mid 1990s....stopped. Then continued from 1999 to maybe 2002. I dont watch anymore. I always viewed it as a sport. I always knew it was staged. I always watched it as entertainment. Male soap opera is how I viewed it. "Pro" Wrestling is to sports as porn is to filmmaking? Ive never heard that before. Yeah....I could definitely see it that way... I think a MR T. emoticon fits in well here...

Fiat Looks To Maserati To Become A Profit Driver :Comments
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Maserati
FCA is nothing but niche brands with mostly niche vehicles. Ferarri...but its being spun off. Maserati Jeep RAM Alfa Romeo Lancia...yes...even Lancia...Lancia is to be sold only in Italy....that is as niche as it gets. Lancia should just get axed completely. FIAT....you axe Fiat too...Alfa Romeo get can Fiat's game the way BMW and M-B do in Europe. Alfa Romeo is needed. If FCA plays their cards right...Alfa could truly become Italy's BMW...technically, Alfa Romeo WAS Europe's BMW before there even was BMW. Meaning...if Europeans are sooooo snobby AGAINST American cars....then Alfa could do EXACTLY what BMW and M-B do....be everything to everybody in Europe...and luxurious and prestigious in North America. Alfa Romeo in North America still has that aura of exotica in North America. Which leads us to Maserati....FCA should spin off Maserati to the Chinese and let them sink money into Maserati...Alfa Romeo could pull off sexy Italian exotica even better than Maserati can. Look at the 8C and 4C. Along with Mopar stylists....Alfa Romeo could go a long way. Alfa Romeo could even use Mopar's North American marketing people...those guys KNOW how to sell products to the public. Dodge could fill mainstream needs in North America quite easily. Chrysler could fill mainstream luxury, premium and luxury in North America quite easily too...technically, Chrysler ALWAYS filled in those shoes. Its what Chrysler does.. Jeep and Ram just need to do what they have always done. If Sergio is smart....he could emulate GM....and its easy to do....FCA has all the RIGHT ingredients to emulate GM... In Europe Alfa Romeo = BMW / M-B / Opel / VW In North America Alfa Romeo = Cadillac / BMW / M-B / Jaguar / Audi and eventually in 2 decades...Alfa...if their cards were played right....could even reach Ferrari status...see 8C and 4C....because technically....Alfa Romeo was Ferrari before there was even a Ferrari...and people still today...are fond of that... Chrysler = Buick / Cadillac (lower end Cadillac) Dodge = Chevy and Pontiac There is a slight problem to this...FCA will NEVER axe 3 Italian makes just to keep the Americans ones alive...so....alternate... Dodge gets axed in favor of Fiat... Fiat becomes mainstream in Europe and Alfa Romeo becomes luxurious all the way... Chrysler picks up where Dodge leaves off in north America... But us American guys are not happy with that.... However...Sergio is correct in one thing... The world has too many brands as it is...some of these brands will have to go eventually... -
Real Measure of Success: Cadillac ATPs Up 15% for June 2015
oldshurst442 replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Cadillac
I agree. I wonder what the ATP is on vehicles other than Escalade and if those are up. Escalade sales rose a lot in 2014 and so far this year, and it is the most expensive vehicle. Increase Escalade sales by 50% at an ATP of $80,000 that is going to pull the brand numbers up. If Cadillac stopped selling ATS, they could get ATP up even higher, but that isn't what is good for business. At some point they still need volume. Well...yes and no about Cadillac needing volume. Like we have said countless of times... Cadillac is NOT Mercedes Benz and BMW where those brands NEED to be everything to everyone....from mainstream to blue collar to aristocracy... Cadillac needs the ATS for image rather than volume. Chevrolet and Buick and GMC are there for volume. Technically...Cadillac's cars are ONLY about image...prestige....and on certain cars...LOW VOLUME is PREFERRED. OK....crossovers from Cadillac may be needed for volume more than low volume prestige.... And why the ATS could actually sell in low volume...but high price tags? Because Chevrolet Camaro helps with the amortization of the platform....and any crossover that Alpha will spawn from Cadillac and/or Chevy and/or GMC and even possibly Opel... And...CTS...isnt that car on a modified Alpha platform too? Whatever....It seems to me that GM finally has a sound business plan for its entire brand umbrella for the first time since the early 1970s... Unfortunately for Mercedes-Benz and BMW...North America is not post WW2 Europe in which us North Americans could easily accept mainstream offerings and not judge harshly...plus....Europe is home for BMW and M-B and THAT is why BMW and M-B gets sooooo many passes...because Europeans are used to seeing BMW Isettas on their streets...eventually in North America...M-B and BMW are risking image regression with all these mainstream offerings....if it happened to Cadillac...it could happen to BMW and M-B... BMW and M-B are walking a fine line with that...because if they slip up on their top tier models....its over for them...just like it was for Cadillac... -

Chevrolet News:Chevrolet Takes Aim At F-150's Aluminum In New Ad
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
I completely agree Olds. If everything is going to be electronic might as well save space and just make it a dial. Aaaaand like 'Bong said with his being nice aluminum it probably doesn't have that cheap feeling to it like some actual shifters do. I had some time to think about that...but Scott Evans and Christian Seabaugh over at Motor Trend made me over come that status quo fear. Then I realized how stupid and clumsy an automatic gear shifter really looks like...especially when everything is electrics now-a-days...and yeah...like 'Bong saiys about the aluminium trim... However...as you know...because we feel the same way about it...I dont like push button start...because I like the feel of a V8 engine turning over and roaring to life from the key itself... You realize that even most twist to start keys are effectively push button also right? The computer controls the starting cycle and won't allow you to overstart or understart the car anymore. No no no.. Not that kind.. Not like the kind in my(formerly)'06 C350 where it was a key but you turn it an let it go and cycles. We're talking more like my(also formerly) '03 Mach1 where the engine only turns over while you're actually turning it - old skool like! Yeah...Old skool like....electric bendix motor....that it is!!!- 64 replies

Yeah. My wife's 2013 Fusion is that way. And CCAP explained it better than I did....its because we had this conversation before him and I. I had one of my famous soap box moments (another emoticon used...) and we bonded yet another time. So yeah, Drew. And I HATE those electronic twist to start keys MORE than I do push button start buttons. I find they are a worse of a tease, because the millisecond you twist, the cycle starts...Its like a fake orgasm....you just go through the motions...it might as well be a button....I prefer the button, there is no need to fake the process...- 64 replies

Good thing I have plenty of manhood so that I'm not threatened by a little knob..... and I also don't need to make up for any lack of feeling by grabbing a big thick shift lever. Did you just call OCNBLU a 'little knob'? Wow!!! Talk about being an internet bully!!! Or Monica Lewinsky. I believe she wrote a book about it... I completely agree Olds. BMW News: BMW M Exec: Not So Bright Future For Manuals, Horsepower Limit
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in BMW
We are all talking about 500/600/700 horsepower like its nothing... SMK talked about an E39 M5 making 400 @ 3900 lbs...that right there...is practically my dream horsepower maximum with weight... I would be totally satisfied with a car the size of an E39 Bimmer,,,maybe a tad bigger...with weight around 3600 lbs...and MAXIMUM horsepower @400 with and equal amount of torques...@ 400 ft/lbs... No need to go more than that. Potholes where I live and ice and snow...actually...250 horsepower is too much... Streets are crowded with pedestrians, fellow drivers and law enforcement...250 horsepower is good enough to fully enjoy a car's "limits" on public streets. 500/600/700 horsepower on daily driven cars on public roads is just....overkill. Fun...but overkill. Maybe my 42 years of age is finally starting to show some maturity and some calmness...but that is how I feel. Besides...like SMK said...more power does add more weight to a car...bigger this and stronger that is required to safely handle more power. Above a certain weight....it defeats the purpose...of being a perfectly balanced car... A perfectly balanced car...well...it has to be balanced all around.- 11 replies

Gear dials.... Everything is electronics now....there is no direct linkage...no mechanical direct linkage. So...Gear dials. Why not? It frees up the console for other stuff instead of having a clunky lever... Gear dials.... They look more elegant. Gear dials...they fit in better with the other dials that modern cars use...take a look at Ford's interior and see how outta place that shifter looks...look at GM's interior...its got all kinds of dials...they are in your face...and as much as I LOVE steering wheel shifters...man...that thing is clunky and MORE OUTTA place....and finally...look at the Mopar and see hw clean the interior looks...and more room for other stuff on the console....GM's console is also freed up...because shifter is on the steering wheel...but that is no place for a shifter anymore...not in 2016...and the thing looks like shyte...its fat and...shyte...at least steering wheel column shifters in the 1950s and 1960s were sleek pieces of metal.- 64 replies

There is always a subculture that likes crisp driving dynamics, but the firmer rides you talk about are more a byproduct of the better quality roads (at least in Germany). Prior to about 2000, only BMW did much with the really sporty driving. Benzes may have been crisper than your grandmother's 83 LeSabre, but they weren't what we'd call sporting... either today or in 1983. They were (are still) heavy, boaty, and back then saddled with slow diesel engines. I assure you there is absolutely nothing sporting about a 1993 Mercedes Benz C-Class with a 111 horsepower non-turbo diesel... so you can imagine what the 90 horsepower non-turbo diesel 1983 model was like. The Volkswagen Rabbits of the late 70s were extremely popular.... and they handle like crap. They came with a range of diesel engine sporting 49 horsepower, 53 horsepower, and an autobahn shredding 69 horsepower. Even with the original 3-series, most cars were sold with horsepower ratings in the double digits. The automatics in these cars were usually 3-speed autos while the manuals were typically 5-speeds (unless you got a really stripper Rabbit with a 4-speed manual) So no... it isn't over simplifying things. Manuals cost a lot less to operate in a time and region with high fuel costs, manuals cost a lot less to buy, and they enabled the driver to wring every last ounce of performance out of grossly underpowered engines. It wasn't out of some love of driving that the Europeans stuck with manual transmissions, it was just the most practical solution to the environment they were in..... and for the most part the Europeans stick with manuals more out of habit than anything else. Ive been saying this over at Motor Trend for years now. Mostly, I was targeting BMW and sometimes I kept it to bash all European cars when some Euro snobby folk at Motor Trend would get a tad too cocky. But then again...Buzz...hit the nail on the head with American cars during the 1950s-1970s...but like I always said...if American cars were a million times better than Euro cars during the good 'ol days, imagine how awful Euro cars were during that time frame. And Japanese cars for that matter. The wishful thinking nostalgia comes from the fact that Detroit build muscle cars during that time frame. Muscle cars were actually affordable. Well, at least in the beginning they were. Then Hollywood did the rest...but...Drive-in theatres and Route 66 and cruisin' and street light to street light drag racin' was real...so wishful nostalgia may be a tad too strong of a sentence... However...Drive in Theatres, roller blading waitresses at the local Diner, Route 66 seeing the USA in your Chevrolet and street light to street light drag racing all include car activities that require NO TWISTIES AND NO MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS!!! And THAT is part of the enthusiasm that America has with their automobiles... Rock-N-Roll, cruising, Milk Shakes, and roller blading waitresses...is what its all about. Sure...drag racing and 4 on the floor were manuals...and automatics were primitive back then...but it still doesnt change the fact that if Steve McQueen missed his shift in a manual Hot Rod, then James Dean in his hydra-matic Oldsmobile would win the race...
-
That is because when Ford does that...its good business....but if GM does that...its bad, its bad!!!

Chevrolet News:Chevrolet Takes Aim At F-150's Aluminum In New Ad
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
I found it funny. Super funny. However...Im in the camp you mentioned that when Chevy finally goes all out with the aluminium stuff all around and not just on the hood...Ill be ready to call out Chevy for it. One thing I dont like is hypocrite stuff... Sure...the commercial was funny, sure it packs a punch...but how much of that punch will come back to bite Chevy in the butt? That commercial is only fine for the people that love Chevy and hate Ford... Lets face it...that commercial wont make die hard Ford guys dump the F-150 just because Chevy says aluminium is less safe than high strength steel... That commercial might get some sales from people in between...those that are not brand loyal to Ford or Chevy...and when Chevy eventually goes aluminium like the F-150...then those people that bought the Silverado based on that bear....well...they will feel duped...and may never buy a Chevy again... Why I say that? Because there are many people out there that swear by the words of marketers...they are soooo naive that they believe everything they hear on TV...and these people...get flustered very easily when they find out you messed with them... Im sure Silverado sales wont go caca just because of this very funny commercial...but I am not impressed by the message behind it either.- 64 replies

Why? I dont know....ask BMW what the difference is....why wasnt "utility" good enough? Whatever the answer is...It worked!!! But to the detriment of the 5/6 Series...those cars aint cool no more... And THAT is what Im saying...and THAT is what YOU refuse to admit. On the flip side...I aint fooled by that term...trust me...Id rather a M5 over a X6M any day of the week. But the buying public dont think so... And THAT is alls Im saying. And...why are YOU soooooo surprised by that fact that the crossover segment is hot and that SAVs from BMW are hot and the 5/6 Series is not? Image....thats all it is... BMW has perfected the art of image... From The Ultimate Driving Machine To James Bond Z8s and Z3s..but the Z3s fizzled fast... To SAV X5s and X6s... They had the 5 Series in the bag...but decided to concentrate elsewhere...
-
About the 5/6 Series... The BMW marketing machine does not give them love...so people stay away... The BMW marketing machine compares a 5500 lbs SUV...sorry...SAV...to a Nissan GTR....but slightly slower... The BMW marketing machine has stopped trying to product place their 5/6 Series cars... They have with Motorcycles... They have with the i8 and the crossover market is :hot: So that leaves the 5/6 Series to rot rot rot...
-
Hey...it aint Chevy or GM that tagged the phrase SPORTS ACTIVITY VEHICLE for SAV rather than SPORTS UTILITY VEHICLE for SUV....that would be BMW...and I see that you completely IGNORED the fact that an E39 5 Series was the last cool ride that BMW made...after that...it is all X5/X6.... WHY? Because BMW was the one to DEFINE it as a SPORTS ACTIVITY VEHICLE... And the handling part of the argument....dont blame that on me...blame the BMW marketing people... Its them that came up with the new niche SPORTS ACTIVITY VEHICLE... This is what garbage I have to listen to: "The fastest crossover" "You shouldnt be able to do things this like this in a crossover" "This thing feels like a lot closer to Nissan GTR...not quite as fast obviously" And this clip was sponsored by BMW....THAT is the message that BMW wants out...and because crossovers are the hot sellers now...for the last 30 years actually...the 5/6 Series suffers... Like I said...the X5/X6 ride and handle better than the 5/6 Series because BMW wants you to believe that...dont hate me...hate BMW for that message... PS: Chevy produces REAL BOF SUVs...and markets them as such... Chevy produces FAMILY oriented crossovers and markets them as such... Chevy produces BLUE COLLAR pick-ups and markets them as such... Chevy produces yacht hauling pick-ups and markets them as such... Chevy produces cool Z/71 off roading pickups and markets them as such... Chevy produces reverse gravitational pulling power pickups and markets them as such... What Chevy does not do...is try to make SUVs cool and "in"...and falsely claim them to be SPORTS ACTIVITY VEHICLES... Chevy lets the population themselves deem their SUVs and pickup trucks as cool...no need to "Hollywood" them up... Alan Jackson...chose to drive a Chevy pickup...and used his Chevy in a video...no product placement... BMW would KILL to have that kind of cool for their SUVs...sorry...SAVs But they do...the Russian Mafia really loves their X6s...

I know that I posted this 25 hours too late... But its never too late to wish my favorite neighbor to the South Happy Birthday!

You've read this here before, you chose to ignore it because it doesn't fit your agenda. Earlier today alone I corrected you that the A6 starts cheaper than the CTS. Cadillac as a brand earns a higher brand ATP than BMW. Cadillac CAN get "german money" and does. Above post spouts yet another ignorant statement. People don't buy an Escalade to transport 7 people, they buy it because it's an Escalade; an icon. Having a smaller SUV won't take away from it's sales but add to them. Exactly...on the BMW thread...he cant understand why the 5/6 Series is losing sales and the X5/X6 is gaining sales... its all about the image... The 5/6 Series had the image...now its the X5/X6 that has the "it" factor...and BMW is the only one to blame for that... And thus why Cadillac will shoot itslef in the foot if it decides to build a car or crossover smaller than the ATS and XT5 for crossovers. Cadillac has 1 image to adhere to...and that is to be big, brash and arrogant. PS: When Cadillac establishes itself on top...it will be 100% fully at the top of the heap with ALL cars being top level...there wont be any econobox bread and butter vehicles like a B Class M-B or FWD 2 Series Bimmers... What does that say for the future of BMW as a top luxury car maker? What that tells me is that they already have built themselves their own flop like a Cimarron in the Late 1990s early 2000s BMW 318ti...and now they are on their way in making their own Version of crappy FWD STS and DTS/Deville cars....first the 2 Series...and later bigger vehicles as people will stop viewing BMW as pure enthusiast enjoyment but as nice leather appointed cars...and the SAVs are contributing to that...X1 and X3 especially...
-
Like I said...BMW did this on their own...they put some love into their "SAVs"... They are letting the 5/6 Series rot on the vine...plus...the 5/6 Series have strayed too far away from what makes a BMW a BMW... Why buy a 5 Series GT when the nicer cooler X5 is hippier....and it probably handles better...and the ride is probably more smoother... Why buy a regular 5 Series when it aint cool anymore to be seen in a 5 Series...the X6 is hip....Hell...the Russian Mafia swear buy it... That represents the last time a 5 Series was cool. It was a cop car in a very popular video game franchise... Coincidentally, that was before BMW created the SAV... Remember...not only did BMW dropped the slogan "The Ultimate Driving Machine" but BMW also crapped out on the driving dynamics of their cars...but...their SAVs on the other hand...well....they do market them as sports activity vehicles that handle the roads better than any other SAVs around...it aint hard to put 2 & 2 together. AND...like I said...the crossover segment is the hottest segment...it has been for the last 20-30 years...and BMW helped create this segment...and BMW nurtured and cared for their crossovers very carefully...unlike the 5/6 Series... I dont know how else I can explain that to you... As far as M-B goes...I wasnt talking about crossovers outselling their cars... I was talking about both BMW and M-B diluting their image and possibly damaging it... When you stray too far away from what you marketed yourself and from what made you a success in the first place with sub-par, mediocre and complete opposite products from what made you famous...well...you will start losing market share...in the long run... BMW...well...it wont take long to start losing sales from even the 3/4 Series if the 3/4 Series become any bigger...and become more like a pony car/American family car to its closest competition...Lexus and Cadillac. BMW...famous for small cars that handle like Go-Karts with the punishing ride. The perfect balance of man and machine doing their thing...where the car does exactly what the driver wants it to do...and the car responds to its driver and communicates to its driver every single the inch of that road... Now...does the 5/6 Series fit that bill? Does the X5/X6 fit that bill? Now that all the car manufacturers are buildiing their own SAVs...Jaguar is on its way shortly...Cadillac is but 1 year away...will the X5/X6 continue to be the "in" SAV...remember...BMWs are known as "Ultimate Driving Machines"... Cadillacs...well...they are known to be big, brash, and arrogant...and the 'Slade only reinforces that...Cadillac aint tied to any mantra...as long as it either big, brash or arrogant...it could handle the twisties...or it cant...it dont matter... The X5/X6 are still sold as SAVs...not as SUVs...which implies that they are "sportier" than SUVs...Im afraid that BMW has put themselves into a corner... Even M-B... The Maybach failed...ultra luxury from M-B failed...when Cadillac gets up and running in that segment...I feel sorry for the S-Class...because...M-B Sprinters and B Class and CLAs are gonna be just as much their downfall as Cadillac re-capturing their place as "The Standard of the World" Its easy for Cadillac to be "The Standard of the World"...Cadillac need not produce blue collar machines to taint snobby appeal...
