Clarkson, Hammond, and May Sign Deal With Amazon Prime
oldshurst442 replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
With that being said of why I hate Top Gear and Jeremy...I hope they dont stray away from that formula...and if they dont...the show will be epic never the less...as i have a feeling Jeremy will be more of an ass...because chip on shoulder...and THAT is the key to success... -

EXACTLY how I feel about that as well. They will knock British build quality along with everything else. Not just American stuff or not just Japanese stuff..or Chinese.. All of them. This is an example of why I hate Top Gear and find it lame...playing on stereotypes for the British/European audience... -
I know; I just read about it. Im sad now. RIP.

*SIGH* The more I think about it, the more I go nuts. Just one thing to say...I wished Oldsmobile was still alive just because this car would make a kick ass Oldsmobile Cutlass 442. And THAT is what I keep on thinking about. I know it was for the best that Oldsmobile went away....its just that this 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is nothing but a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 W-30 in spirit. Im more of an Olds guy than I am a Cadillac man. I do love this car though. And I love the fact that this car has the folk at Stuttgart (Mercedes AND Porsche) , Munich (BMW) and Ingolstadt (Audi) on their minds. I love the fact that Cadillac left Motown...because...(I ove Detroit...but...) Cadillac was just a reflection of what life used to be... And went to New York... because... Cadillac needed to be in a New York state of mind. In a New York Groove. Because in a New York minute, it could make you, or break you. You know what they say. If you could make it there, you could make it anywhere...NEW YORK NEW YORK. Its the home of Superman...AND Batman....and the Ghostbusters for crying out loud. The home of the 5 families of La Cosa Nostra. In other words... Those Germans are screwed...
-
One problem I have with this car...its the back end. I hate that rear spoiler lip thingy. If I was buying a CTS-V...Id try to get a rear spoiler delete...I wouldnt even want a credit....if fact...Id probably pay Cadillac to remove it. If not...Id definitely rip it off.

By all means, I dont want them to lose their "Britishness" just to play to a "world" audience. The world IS STILL watching reruns of Top Gear UK because of who Jeremy, Hammond and Captain Slow are...its THAT waht makes the show special...THEIR chemistry and WHAT CHARACTERS they play on their TV show. Its their British humor with their aloofness that makes the show a hot ticket world wide. -

I still watch the show myself, and get a chuckle or two I must admit. I wish them well on this new show...and like you said, I hope they can continue on with their chemistry. Its magical what they got. Its not often you see that anymore. I applaud their efforts. -

Yeah...I like that from them....its when they make fun of certain aspects of a culture other than the British one and act all smug about it...see the Red Neck episode... At first...I found that episode funny, then I saw it a second time...enough time to analyze it...and...well...that was a tad boorish...I did enjoy how they drove the American cars in that episode though...funny stuff...making fun of a bouncing Cadillac...through British eyes...is quite funny...or talking about how murders like to drive Camaros....North Americans say that guys with mullets drive Camaros...hey...why not a murderer with a mullet? I also did not like the serious attempt to critique and analyze the cars they tested, but their analysis was always based on perceived notions anyway... Its OK when testing a 1980s Cadillac and coming to a conclusion that it is/was a land yacht, but to harp on the fact that a C6 Corvette is cheaply made..because its made from fiberglass just to play for the British television audience....it becomes lame...PS...Corvettes have alwys been made with fiberglass....why not mention that itty bitty bit of information? I understand Top Gear UK was meant for THEIR audience...just dont try to come across as truthful journalistic program them... Don Cherry, lets the people know its HIS opinion....and he holds HIS opinions dearly...problem is...Don Cherry also calls it as HE sees it...he does NOT play to an audience...and if a Canadian hockey player does something he hates....he lets that Canadian boy have it....as with the Top Gear Trio...yeah I know...entertainment...like I said...it gets lame fast what they do... -

Actually, the BBC let them run wild and let them do what they wanted...so much so...that Jeremy did not know where to stop...as he had no boundaries....he had no idea where the line was...until he went too far...see Mexico...see Argentina...see him get all hissy fissy over food... In other words...like a spoiled brat who has no discipline at home...Jeremy became a problem child after. I hope Jeremy learned something from his stupidity, because right after his tirade against that producer, it seems like he didnt take responsibility of his ownactions...and blamed the BBC for 'effin' up a good show... I hope this show does not play for the British Television audience. After awhile...that gets lame... I do hope that they continue with their childish antics...minus the xenophobia stuff...and minus the needless bashing of certain cars...only the ones that deserve it...Morris Minor for instance... -
I think his head would have exploded just on the thought of a mainstream car having 707 HP. I agree on the comparison though. I had rented a 2005 300C a decade ago and he took it for a spin...he had a smile from ear to ear. He told me that he hadnt felt a rush like that since his GTO. I fell in love with that Hemi as well...We took a small trip to Lake George, NY with it and Ive wanted a Hemi ever since. I was considering it for a purchase, hence the rental part, it was a way to test drive it...I ended up with a W-Body Chevy Impala SS instead. Because of the stupid snow... AWD you say? NAH...not for me...either FWD, or RWD...but never AWD. ok...so Im a liar...I traded in my Impala for an Acura TL........SH-AWD. Only because I buy the top of the line trims and I wanted the 3.7 liter 305 horsey V6...

Blanket statements keep me warm on dark and stormy Montreal winter nights. *SIGH* That is why I cant own one of these....either in Charger or Challenger guise. The dark and stormy winter night part is kinda of a kill joy for a person that only has a budget for a daily driver...so one has to choose wisely for one. I soooooo want a Challenger Hellcat. What I dont get, is how in the heck did my dad do it? He drove a 1970 Pontiac GTO when I was born... I guess Im not half the man my dad was...

I'm pretty frugal I guess. My bike is the same age as me, and I've used up all the bearing systems. I tortured the hell out of the old wheels and so was forced to upgrade. Heck, I can build a bike now for under $60 and have it ride better and last longer than anything from Crappy Tire (It's a common enough Canadian hardware/department/auto parts big box store). That aint frugal my friend...that is the way to do it. That is the smart way. I laugh at some of my neighbors...not my direct neighbors, but the people that live in my community...and Im sure its everywhere in North America... I see some people with $5000, $6000, $7000, $10 000 dollar bikes and they are dressed like they are training for Le Tour de France. A $200 bike from Crappy Tire minus 50% sales or when they have their scratchy ticket is good enough....yes I know...these bikes are not tuned...yada yada yada...we are not training for Le Tour de France!!! Besides...when I was young...I had a $75 (in 1984) 12 speed bike bought at Sears...heavy like you wouldnt believe...and I rode that thing everywhere until I got my driver's license at 17....and I did not need to train my legs too much when I started weight training as that heavy bike made my legs huge! To boot, I was FASTER then these idiots today....actually, I still benefit from that bike as my legs are pretty muscular...and guess what? I could probably keep up with them in speed and in stamina...and my bike is a Schwinn bought at Crappy Tire for $150. %50 off from $300. And its a hybrid...its a cruiser rather than a speedster...but it gets the job done... $5000 dollars for a stinkin' bike!!! What farce!

Buick News: Rumorpile: What's In the Pipeline for Buick

That is because Infinity was fighting him every step of the way... They hired him for his direction, yet they did not let him guide...the CEOs wanted to run the ship...so he bailed....and he wasnt the only guy to bail on Infinity... -
5.3 years in keeping the same phone? And you call yourself cheap? Ill call you sensible... Whatever happened to the way it used to be when we used to buy things in hopes that they lasted for ever? America was not always about consumerism...I wish we could go back to that....this over consumption is what is the real demise of the American Empire. Because our morals and our ethics of working hard to achieve the American Dream is gone astray...its easy to buy things on credit...only to throw it away and buy a new one...on credit...

I ride a bike. For pleasure with my kids. This year, we did the stereotypical "ride our bikes to the baseball field to play baseball" a few times.

Its over the top....but that is how Trans Ams were...and Pontiacs for that matter. About the graphics....yeah...Ill agree...eyesore...but that style is from a different time...and had it been a real Trans Am made by Pontiac from General Motors along side the Zeta Camaro...those graphics and fake vents would not be on it....but since its a homage car.... Would you know if International Series Cutlas Ciera 4 doors came with a 3800? Or was it only for 2 door coupes? I dont remember seeing any 2 door International Series Cieras, but plenty 4 door sedans. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ About that Trans Aint Its over the top....but that is how Trans Ams were...and Pontiacs for that matter. I have visited Elgin Park this past year. I dont know if I saw a link to Elgin Park in ChearsandGears or when I was surfing the web and I fell upon it by accident type deal...but this man, Mr.Smith, and his wonderful skills have made me appreciate scale modeling even more. I love stuff like this.

Speaking of Alberta. The family is watching Cool Runnings for the umpteenth time. My family loves this movie. It hit me when I saw the skyline in the movie.... Calgary has changed just a little bit since this movie was made. Just a bit. Good grief, that movie is what, 25 years old now... You still see the ski jumps and bobsled run heading out of town on your way to Banff. And of course, the Saddledome is still standing. 22 years if one wants want to be accurate. As happy as I am for Calgary and for Canada to be growing in leaps and bounds...I am saddened as I realized that in 22 years...Montreal and Quebec have not changed at all... The good news...our Champlain Bridge that Transport Canada said was gonna fail and collapse into the St. Lawrence by 2016 is being replaced...and construction of a new one was started this year by tearing down some parts of the highway system leading up to the bridge and an all new highway system...the bridge itself will be started in 2016 in the Spring... The highway system around Downtown Montreal will also be replaced with a brand new plan.... Big changes....finally.

"That's Not a Buick" Ad Campaign a Success?
oldshurst442 replied to cp-the-nerd's topic in Industry News
Yeah...Im sure M-B will not disappoint with their top dog luxury car....Im just being difficult. Partly because I dont know how the system works...with the video you posted, I got a better idea...Im still skeptical...albeit a lot less. I still have doubts on the computing power and for the ability of the system to calibrate fast enough on really crappy roads...but alas...all this that Im doing is for nothing....as I have no reason to doubt M-B engineers...because I aint an engineer myself...I just flip burgers for a living. (The restaurant is mine though... ) My doubts will be answered soon enough when automotive magazines will get their hands on one...especially automotive journalists from my neck of the woods. -

The video did allow me to understand how the system works though....So thanx for that video SMK... -
Yeah...I should have liked it as much as you did because my posting style over at MT....especially when "discussing" matters with the Great Winged One and his sidekick Sideshow Dog Mr. Deaner have about the same level of intelligence and humor.

A plus one vote for both of you as that was funny stuff. I want me this car sooooo bad.

So...you want to discuss the Minions movie, huh? My 8 year old son thought it was the best movie ever My 10 year old daughter just thought it was alright. No more no less, but she did like it. My wife was happy that her kids enjoyed the movie. My thoughts: It was the biggest waste of time I have ever tried to entertain myself with. I had more fun watching Thelma and Louise with a girlfriend that I had just broken up with back in the day than I did with this stupid movie. It was money well spent as my kids loved the movie...however...I was more entertained chewing on the straw I sipped my Coke with by making funny shapes with it during the movie... The soundtrack was OK...as I appreciated the fact they used many songs from the 1960s...but they could have chosen better songs from that era...to better fit the 1960s feel...with better songs that kids could relate to...using said 1960s songs... I did snicker with that Abbey Road reference...yet...I think Love Me Do was a poor choice as well... On second thought: Love, love me do You know I love you I'll always be true So please, love me do Yeah...I could see why they chose Love Me Do.
