Wagoner should know he is pi$$ing in the wind when it comes to health care costs and govt help! The Democrats are still scared because of HillaryCare in the 90's and the Republicans are in bed with the health care industry so they won't do anything! We are in trouble and there is no one in political office that has the backbone to do anything because Americans have NOT demanded it.

President Offers Automakers Little Encouragement
drew770 replied to z28luvr01's topic in General Motors
The loss of American jobs has been going on for decades and the Bush administration is no different. And for those that feel that a democrat can do better well Clinton didn't do anything to stop the unfair trade practices of other countries either. Both parties have failed the american worker! Large media both the Clinton News Network and Faux News have failed to promote the American side of Globalization. When we Americans finally decide to put both parties out of work then maybe we can see some action in Washington. And what is so wrong with the govt saying that we will give the "same help" as the Japanese govt gives their manufactors? -
Saab is 1 kick a$$ vehicle away from being revelent again. Because Saab always and will always be low volume they need 1 really outstanding vehicle to bring in buyers that will other wise go to Volvo or VW. None of the current Saabs are crapola so if GM would deliver just 1 world class, stylish, quirky (Swedish) design mid volume Saab then the loyal fans would return to the dealer and maybe look at what else if offered by Saab. IMHO, Saab is a great Worldwide brand but a niche player here in the states. GM should focus on improving it's European lineup and the rest will follow. Saab can go places that Cadillac would not be welcomed especially since Americans and our corporate brands are currently disliked around the world. Saab has to be designed to take advantage of European and Asian tastes and not American. Whether it is designing for diesels, hatchbacks/fastbacks or wagons the focus should be on markets outside of North American because that is Saabs strenths.

Lexus Reveals 2007 LS 460
drew770 replied to CSpec's topic in North American International Auto Show in Detroit (NAIAS)
I might not be an overly showy person but I would like my car to say $50000 if I paid that much for it. I don't need the bling but we all have to admit that this Lexus is very understated. Don't get me wrong, it is a pleasant exterior design and an outstanding clean interior but this design doesn't say $$. This is where the old guard BMW, Mercedes, Jags, and Caddy excel! When you drive them no one can confuse your car with anything else on the road. This beautiful Lexus could be confused with a run of the mile Toyota at first glance. IMHO -
I just don't understand America's love affair with everything foreign!! Its sad that Americans don't care that we lost the textile, steel and electronic industry. Now we are in a situation that we might lose the auto industry!! But, we have no one to blame because it is Americans that run out and buys "Made in China" products, shops at Walmart that imports everything, and buy foreign cars because my daddy's buick broke down in 1987!!!

What can rebuild a brand is kick a$$ products! Lutz is out here selling the Lucerne and the LaCrosse but they will not cut it in todays cut throat competition. Chrysler and Cadillac was just as "damaged" as Buick and Ponitac but they finally broke through with great cars. If GM wants Buick and Ponitac to survive then they better deliver something better and more groundbreaking then the Lucerne and the G6. Both are good products but with Toyota on your heals you have to give us something better.

Where are our fearless politicians that are suppose to be doing the work of the American people???? How can any of our elected officals ask for our votes while another plant is closing in their district? Granted politicians can't force Americans to buy Fords or Chevy's but they could level the playing field with the Asians. But that is to much to ask from our corrupt government!

This is really no competition. The Honda's interior is the benchmark of midsize sedans and the quality is top notch. The Accord is a vehicle were everything performs like it suppose to and smoothly. The Impala is nice but still a generation behind Accord in alot of aspects. The SS is the only Impala that is worth looking at.

I am in love with this car. Even though I prefer the Saturn version this is still a great looking and a good value.

Is GM delaying its new cars to intro X-Overs?
drew770 replied to Northstar's topic in General Motors
Sometimes you have to lose money in order to make money. If the NG Malibu was the drop dead beauty that the critics said it was then why not release them as a stop gap against the new Camry? I know GM has to save resources but there is a growing gap between sales of GM's midsize cars and Camry/Accord. Hopefully, the Aura is all that and a bag of chips because if it isn't then GM's midsize car hopes will be a faded memory. -
Is GM delaying its new cars to intro X-Overs?
drew770 replied to Northstar's topic in General Motors
It seems like every other day, GM is changing this or delaying that. Who in the hell is in charge!! Get a plan going and stick with it! GM was allegedly already solved the various platform issues. Well, I guess not. So the current Malibu will be sitting on the lots for how many more years? Well, I hope GM has a front & center seat watching the new Camry crush the Malibu. My patience is wearing thin with this management! -
Wagoner has had his chance to run GM and to be honest he has not being an effective leader. As the leader it is your job to take responsiblity for bad deals, missed chances, and stupid ideas. GM has had all in the passed 5 years. Yes, Wagoner should take responsiblity for the Fiat mess, missing the hybrid boat, ignoring the market shift to rw drive automobiles, not being flexible enough to deal with a eventual down turn in suv and truck sales, lack of focus on volume selling CARS, and not dealing with the union - healthcare costs soon enough! We all understand how difficult it is to engineer and manufactor cars and how difficult it is in dealing with the UAW but it is your job as CEO to get things done and if you can not then get out and move on!!
-
Where is the GM board? They should be showing Wagoner the door for this action. But, GM has one of the weakest boards in corporate America so they will do nothing but sit and hide. This is another example of bad decision making from Wagoner!

The marketing genius behind this should be fired!! Martha Stewart has run her course. Her Apprentice show was cancelled because of low ratings and her new daytime show is in the dumps also. Why would Buick team up with a felon is just crazy!!!!
-
This has to be the perfect storm for GM. Their bread and better money makers the SUVs sales are tanking and there isn't a worthy Camry Accord fighter out there. We keep hearing that GM has some great next generation cars coming in a few years but it is getting harder and harder to just stay positive. Especially since GM is notorious for screwing things up. Plus, the doom and gloom media is just adding to the fire. The question is why did it take Wagoner so long to start trying to turn this ship around. And why is he still getting the board's support?? WallStreet for years has said that GM has to many brands, to many plants, and to many employees. GM has mismanaged this situation and now there is a need for new blood in the corporate office. I remember why Apple was dead in the water and then they decided to bring back a visionary (Steve Jobs). He had to guts and the vision to cut where he needed to and motivate his design teams to give us something no one else has. Now Apple is profitable and a media darling. GM needs a visionary of it's own!!!

I agree! There is no way Delphi should ask their workers to go down to make $9 an hour! There is a cost of living Delphi should look at before asking for such concessions. The workers not the union are smart enough to read the paper and watch the news to see how bad Delphi and GM is doing and I am sure that if Delphi would put a reasonable offer on the table it would be considered. $9 an hour is insulting. Maybe if Delphi,GM, & Ford's management and workers would march themselves to Washington and sit on the Capital's steps and demand Fair trade and reasonable health care costs controls maybe just maybe these so called politicans of ours would help American Manufactoring. If we keep going down this path of losing manufactoring jobs we will be a Service Nation full of Burger flippers and taco wrappers!!! It's time to force our politicans to start working for us!

Saturn will offer less-expensive hybrid model
drew770 replied to Northstar's topic in Heritage Marques
Okay, So GM has a mild hybrid that is cheap and offers 15% to 20% fuel economy improvment!! Well, GM's advertisement department better get ready to kick the Saturn Green Line into high gear. This is a dream for GM and hopefully the media and consumers take advantage of this technology and it's benefits. -
GM needs as much positive buzz possible so the Enclave Debut should be at Detroit but I am not feeling any of Buick's new names. For the life of me I don't understand why GM is so insensate on changing the names of sucessful nameplates. What was so wrong with LaSabre or Park Avenue? Plus if GM feels that those names bring up old age then the problem is not LaSabre or Park Avenue it is the name "Buick" itself that brings old age to mind!!
-
I agree that it might be gimmicky but if GM would advertise it and tout it's usefulness then maybe folks would catch on. Again, GM is not taking advantage of good technology. Plus, it sets Cadillac, Buick, and the Corvette apart from the competition.

Finally GM has decided to close plants and lay off some workers. Yes, this is a bad situation but I would rather GM close plants or cease production and lay off folks instead of filing for bankruptcy and then closing more plants and laying off more workers. WallStreet has been saying for years that GM had too much capacity and now Wagoner finally has set a plan in action. Like it or not GM has to get smaller, more nimble, and smarter in order to return to profitablity and increase market share. Also, to some extent I think GM has decided to revise it's outlook and finally realize that a market share of 20% is more in line in the future than the 25% to 30% GM wants for itself. There are too many competitors out there for GM to dominate the market like it use to. Also, I think we should just calm down (very hard for me because I am a shareholder) and wait to see what the next few years will bring for GM. We have some interesting and good feedback coming from critics concerning the next generation Malibu, Aura, Sky, Outlook, CTS and a new concept of the Camaro. And lets not forget the up coming GMT900 even though they will not hit the sales highs of past years they are still fantastic vehicles that will just confirm to people that Yes GM can produce something good.

Better late then never!!! GM seems to always be late to the game. As the worlds largest automaker you would think they would have the brains, talent, and resources to give Toyota a run for it's money. But again it's GM and Wagoner!!

The only thing that is preventing GM from filing bankruptcy is that it is sitting on a cash hoard of 19 billion dollars. But, if GM, Delphi & UAW make a deal to buyout most of Delphi's union contracts that will eat up alot of it's cash. The good thing about a company as large as GM filing bankruptcy is that it will send a message to our government that "Free Trade" is not necessarly "Fair Trade" plus the need for health care reform is as vital to this country as us getting off of middleastern oil!! I agree with alot of people that GM has brought this onto themselves but our "Hate America" media has been part of the problem also. We never hear about the good things coming from GM or any of her successes. All we hear is the doom and gloom. But this is the type of news that make headlines. During bankruptcy GM will get a chance to look over all contracts and their balance sheets to see what is viable and what is not. Plus, the Judge will want to see a sustainable plan of action to get out of bankruptcy and to become profitable. This puts the onus back on management to come up with a plan to get back market share without relying on trucks and suvs. I don't think GM would want to get rid of any of it's brands because of all the platform sharing that is going on but what GM would like to have a chance to do is to rework it's dealer franshises. To force Cadillac as a stand alone store and to get Buick, Ponitac, & GMC dealers together faster than what is going on currently. Also, GM will be among every airline besides for JetBlue and Southwest, Texaco, Kmart, and Delphi to file for bankruptcy and they are still up and running all a bit smaller than what they went into court as. GM will survive bankruptcy and the media rush to judgement.
