New York: 2007 Mercedes E-Class
drew770 replied to Variance's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
Are they kidding? At the premium price they are charging for this car and it barely likes any different from the current model? Well, good then when the STS and CTS is redone they will just spank MB! -
New York: 2007 Acura RDX (production version)
drew770 replied to Variance's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
I just love the interior. Honda/Acura are geniuses when it comes to interior fit and finish. But the exterior screams Japanese plus with parts and pieces from the Toyota Rav4 and Tribeca the exteriors lacks class for such a great brand as Acura. Disappointed at best. -
The Aura needs better wheels and piano black
drew770 replied to Northstar's topic in Heritage Marques
Mr. Lutz: The Aura has to be competitive in every way to the Camry,Accord and now the Sonata. GM has to look at the list of standard and optional equipment including safety equipment offered on both vehicles and GM should match and or exceed their list; not offer less for more money! The Aura was a great concept that has arrived with ho hum reactions. Where's the spirit of the concept? The fans of GM keep waiting to see if GM will give us a vehicle that we can put in front of our import loving friends and brag about it without apologizing for short falls whether it is quality, resale value, standard equipment or styling. Where is that vehicle Mr. Lutz and I will give you that the Vette is the only exception to the rule. -
Not only does GM need a new more favorable UAW contract but it also needs for gas prices to stablize and or drop. GM is banking alot on the GMT 900 and they will only be sucessful if gas stays stable. But we have to realize that with a new hurricane season a few months away so we GM has to get ready for the worst. I would feel alot better about GM's situation if they were now releasing passenger cars that were as good as the GMT 900 are. The Aura and the Hybrid Vue can't save a whole company.

I made a deal with myself last year during the Katrina gas spikes that if gas got over $3 then old Sally will take a hit for the hometeam and get traded for something alittle easier on the pocket. Well, it seems that my TrailBlazer is in it's last few months in my garage!!! I can afford the gas but I don't want to pay it. I rather sacifice some storage space and towing ability in order to get off of my dependence on gas. I am getting pretty tired of making Exxon, BP and Chevron super rich while the average American is starting to suffer for the sake of corporate profits.

I can see Saturn with a future but Buick and Pontiac seems alittle murky. But I am sure they will be around for the near future. But, at least Saturn seems to be looking forward. With the Red and Green line versions of it's products it will give Saturn more appeal across the board! The Greenline could bring in Earth Friendly customers that no other brand in GM can bring in especially SUV and Truck heavy Chevy. Also the Redline versions could bring in the tuner import loving youth that enjoys cheap fast trills. With all of the new products for Saturn even though they are rebadges of a European brand that 99% of Americans never heard of Saturn has the best chance of bringing in new customers to GM because all of the other brands are tainted with a subpar perceptions.

Not only GM should sue but Ford and Nissan since they also get parts from Delphi. I understand that Delphi is taking the tough road here but it is more than just the UAW that will be hurt by this. GM can not take anymore hits to the balance sheet. Gas prices is creeping up again, healthcare costs seems to keep increasing at an alarming rate and no high volume people mover from GM on the horizon. I hope GM was smart enough to find alternative suppliers so the can keep production going.

Motown Surprise: GM Relishes in Strong SUV Sales
drew770 replied to Intrepidation's topic in General Motors
I just wish that this much effort was put into passenger cars than GM would be in this mess! -
We have all waited long enough for Rick to do some massive changes but with GM continuing to bleed red ink, it is time for him to go. Rick's lack of focus to turn GM around is getting more and more apparent with every press release! Sorry but it's time for GM to get someone that is not afraid to ruffle some feathers in GM legendary slow and hardheaded bureaucracy. GM needs someone that can put fire into everyone! The Life of this company depends on someone better than Rick!

This Buick naming busines is getting rather silly! We have the LaCrosse and the Lucerne and now we might have the Invicta! The names are getting dumber and dumber per car!! No to the Electra (images of a bad movie and 70's) and no the Invicta which means what?

I am glad Lutz reveal this revelation! But talk is cheap and actions speak louder than words!! Get it done already! Enough talking.

These doom and gloom stories about GM are tiresome! It seems that Wallstreet wants GM to fail because here in America we love all things foreign!!
-
I totally agree with Lori but I also understand that CR is only reacting to years of Detriot Crap! CR expects Ford and GM to give us less than stellar vehicles. They expect that the fuel economy would be worst than it's foreign counterparts or that the interior would be full of fit and finish issues and made of cheap plastic! And for the most part, CR and the American consumers have been right! Even though Ford and GM has made great improvements some of their cars and trucks still doesn't match the competition. Prime example is the Fusion! It's a great car but still not any better than the Camry or Accord. What about the Cobalt? Its pretty good but it would have been class leading 5 years ago! If Ford and GM wants to really beat CR at its own game than they need to give America cars and trucks that are above and beyond the competition not just almost!!

Back to the topic at hand. Luts is a professional and he has to answer not only to the board but also the shareholders. A top member of management would never knowningly release bad information that could have a negative or positive effect on the company's share price. Granted this is just regular car news but he knows that he has to maintain a certain level of honestly with the press unlike our politicians.

GM to sell 20 pct stake in Suzuki Motor for $2.33B
drew770 replied to BigPontiac's topic in General Motors
GM has to realize that it needs to refocus on the North American market. Like it or not North America is where GM is extremely weak on the car basis. By unloading Suzuki GM has gotten some much needed cash that could go toward the bottom line. Plus, GM is keeping 3% so when things turn around and GM is making a profit they can always increase their share of the automaker. -
As long as the Impala is not a Camry clone like the current body style is then Chevy might have a chance to recapture some lost sales. But, Chevy still has to deliver a top notch quality car that meets and exceeds the industry standard which is the Camry right now. No one wants a good looking car that is still miles behind Toyota or Honda. If Chevy does it then they need to do the complete job!
-
I thought that the 08 Malibu was put on hold until the Epi II was ready which was going to be in 2009-2010? IMHO GM needs to spend the development money to greatly improve the current Malibu. The Epi I platform is a good platform it just needs a few tweaks here and there. If GM doesn't improve on the current Malibu soon then Toyota will increase it's sales lead over GM's cars.

In order for Caddy to expand and increase it's sell volume in the US and in Europe. Caddy has got to offer Diesel and hybrid engines and more variety out of it's line up. Caddy has to offer coupes, convertibles, and crossovers. I'm glad that Caddy has been going steady and slow with it's reinvention as the Standard of the World but now that they have proven that people will buy Cadillacs then it's time to step it up and really push the envelope.
-
With such a highly competitive market I am glad both Lincoln and Cadillac has great vehicles to offer the American consumer. There will be no reason for someone to go to the Lexus dealer when both domestics have such good offerings. Now, I personally think that Caddy will take the sale crown but the Navi has alot of admirers so I would not be surpraised if it is a close race.

I hate to see Americans out of a job but in a Global Economy you have to go where labor is cheap in order to stay in business. If this move save GM much needed money and will provide them with first rate electronics that are cutting edge than so be it.

Saab is a great brand that just needs alittle attention from corporate GM. It doesn't need a complete turn around to attact buyers and it doesn't need to reinvent itself to gain younger buyers like Buick. But, what Saab needs is a few great vehicles to carry the brand. The 9-3 is already a good vehicle but the 9-5 is a 10 year old mess that needs a complete overhaul. Hopefully York was shown the upcoming concepts and products and he was impressed enough to realize that it is an important global brand for GM.

I wonder if the media will give GM credit for the "Green Line" vehicles? If they do it will probably be with a wink and a nod and still complain about GM's big ole gas sucking SUVs while at the same time ignoring Toyotas gas sucking SUVs and Trucks.

It's amazing that GM has done what the American Government should have done!! Provide the american worker with healthcare and a pension and now GM is getting punished for it. Yes, GM has gotten fat and lazy and quality of some of it's vehicles is still not all that outstanding but the GM "Death Watch" is silly and unfair. How fast do the media want GM to turn it around? Do they want GM to drop it's pension plans? Dump all but 3 brands? Or better yet lay off an additional 50,000 workers? GM has to balance alot of crap just to make everyone happy. They have to satifiy Wall Street with layoffs and plant closings but try not to step on the UAW's toes! They have to still provide health care and pension for retirees but some how cut benefits to make a profit! I for 1 don't understand all of GM's decisions lately (2010 Malibu update???) but I wouldn't want Wagoners job either! It takes years for a company this large to turn itself around and for the life of me I just don't understand why the media can't give GM some slack!

Around the world America must be a complete joke. We import the hell out of everything and we demand Walmart to stay cheap. How can Walmart stay so cheap? It imports everything from China! We go around the world singing the praises of free trade but we keep getting the short end of the stick and not 1 politicians will have the nuts to say no more!! We all remember when not to long ago China was a mess. Famine is all we heard. But, people wanted to have cheaper stuff so Walmart dropped it's "Buy American" compaign and started to import everything from China. Now the economy in China is going gangbusters!!! Off of American backs and pocketbooks. What would happen if America's 260,000,000 customers started to buy American and we demanded that our companies consider a domestic supplier first! I know prices would go up but jobs would stay here!
-
I 100% agree. Everything foreign is better and anything domestic must be of shady quality. We as a nation would rather see fellow Americans out of work instead of buying something made in the USA.
