  1. This story has been confused so many times. I believe it was related to the Ste. Therese plant in particular. Since the plant has been leveled, they don't have that to fall back on. And GM has no other assembly plants in Quebec. The Camaro will be produced in Oshawa.
  2. I don't know what makes you think that the Swift is "a half-class down from the Aveo," because I see it as the same class (like the Yaris) if not halfway between the Aveo and the Mini (which is more prestigious and, therefore, a class above the Aveo). The Swift is only marginally shorter in length than the Aveo but it's taller in height and wider.
  3. The Challenger generated more excitement among the journalists at Detroit than the Camaro did...and by the time New York rolled around, it was old news...so I can't comment about the excitement there.I can, however, comment on the Challenger's styling. It LOOKS like the old Challenger, but if you compare them, they're dramatically different. It's not that they took the old one and they put "the most remote amount of modern touches" on it, it's proportioned differently. As one of the Chrysler execs said, it's how you REMEMBER the Challenger. I do like that the Camaro uses touches from the old models without copying the old models (like Chrysler and Ford have done), but I didn't think the execution is what it should have been. It looks like a characture of a Camaro to me and not an actual car. It's as if Ed Roth designed the Camaro concept. The Challenger looks as if Hot Wheels designed it, which is only slightly better.
  4. Do you really put your faith in what this hack has to say about cars? Really?Reviews like "it's ok" don't fill me with enthusiasm for his site. He's been a hack from day one...and continues to be one today. I don't see a problem with the Elantra. It's going to do well in its market.
  5. Asia - "Wildest Dreams" from "Asia"
  6. There's nothing wrong with the Azera. Joel (and his team) showed me the car that would become the Azera a few years ago in Korea. His team (if he left GM "three years ago," he didn't have much to do with the Azera's design himself) did an excellent job on it and on the other upcoming Hyundai models they showed us.
  7. Everytime someone gets mad at gas prices, this email gets circulated. I know I've been seeing it for ten years atleast. Here's what would REALLY happen. IF this one-day boycott could be pulled off, gas stations would simply increase the price of gas the next day. Are you ready to go TWO days? Okay, they'll increase the price AGAIN. You're going to buy gas...there's no doubt about it. Boycott gas stations for a day and the stations will make MORE money off of you. The REAL answer is to a) use less gas (drive less, buy a more fuel efficient vehicle, car pool, drive slower, etc) and b) shop around for the lowest price of gas (avoid premium if your car doesn't require it and don't patronize the stations that have the higher prices in your area).
  8. I had simiilar information, but mine went back to ancient Roman times.
  9. It worked this time...thanks. Don't know what I did differently.
  10. I am told that the current generation Swift will arrive on American shores in 2007. I was told this directly from Suzuki.
  11. Driving on the right side of the road, according to what I've read, came from Napoleon who marked his territory by making everyone drive on the right. Driving on the left is natural, apparently...therefore Japan is in the right by driving on the left.
  12. It's common sense if it's YOUR belief, but if it's not, it's stupid? I'm not defending the idea of not showing someone's face on a driver's license but I am defending freedom of religion. And YES, the country is supposed to follow suit if someone's religious freedom is being denied...it's a founding principle of this great country. So if the "high-risk lifestyle" is being gay and that's the reason why insurance rates go up, it's wrong. But if it's the high-risk lifestyle of so many HETEROSEXUALS, it's okay? Either way, it's the high-risk lifestyle of HUMANS. You're in that group, right? It's the basic principle of America...you haven't picked up on that one yet? So if it's not Christianity, it's wrong? If it's not the same sexual orientation as you, it's wrong? Where does it end? If it's not the same skin color as you, it's wrong? If it's not the same country of origin as you, it's wrong? At what point are we heading in the direction of the Nazis? Where's the line? The beastiality comment has already be quite successfully argued (much better than I could), so I'll leave that alone. Anyone hear about PDA (public displays of affection) being looked down upon...heterosexual or homosexual? Yes...touting your heterosexuality may be just as offense to someone as that other person showing off their homosexuality.I personally don't have a problem...heterosexual or homosexual...showing affection in public. But I'm apparently in the minority.
  13. Apparently just registering isn't enough to see the entire article.
  14. Anyone who has a subscription to Just-Auto: I'm looking for a reprint of ONE article. It can be found at: https://www.just-auto.com/features_detail.asp?art=32 If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!
  15. I don't get out much. Is this an example of our current educational system? The homosexuals I know have a safer "lifestyle" than many of the heterosexuals I know...and this isn't uncommon in the real world. Point one: invalid. I didn't get where you were going with the whole tax issue, so here's my take on the third issue.Everything our country was founded on? How about religious freedom...where the religious right wants to prevent everyone from believing what they want (or if they choose NOT to believe in a higher power) unless it agrees with what they believe in? Where homosexuals need to be treated like outcasts like people who were claimed to be witches or people of color or Communists or any other group that didn't fall into the right-leaning, white Christian definitions? First you want America to stand on the basic principles the country was founded upon and then you want to take away a woman's religious belief? You was to believe in America but you want to deny "freedom of religion" (which includes freedom FROM religion) and the separation of Church and State by wanting the Ten Commandments to be posted on a court house. And you don't fully understand homosexuality to top it off?Sigh....is this the propaganda that's being fed to our youth?
  16. EVERY special-interest group has become "overly sensitive" in the past couple of decades. This is nothing new. Anyone else see the "war on Christianity" that's being claimed by right-wing extremists? C'mon...it's everywhere. I'm rather open-minded and I try to be sensitive to the delicate nature of most minorities, but taking offense to the Calber ad is stupid. I find it far less offensive than the controversial Chrysler Concorde 'how did Savana get her name" ad (one of my favorites) or the Dodge Durango "it's big"/urinal ad (another great ad). America...get over yourself. Sometimes a fairy is just a fairy. Sometimes a colorfully dressed man is just a preppie.
  17. I won't be there on the 15th, but will anyone be there on the 12th?
  18. A few years ago, someone I know took up the project of researching why we drive on the right side of the road or on the left. The initial concept was to take the idea back as far as the tradition can be traced. And he did. Why do we drive on the right or left side of the road? (I'll chime in later with what this researcher found)
  19. The problem with that is that many light-trucks are used for commercial applications and need more powerful (and potentially less efficient) engines. The rules were initially set up to favor trucks because of these commercial truck owners. Inadvertedly, CAFE created "passenger trucks."
  20. I'm with you...it's a wagon. But according to the government through its own loopholes, it's a truck. The PT Cruiser is a hatchback in my book. I'm kinda surprised that they couldn't find a way to make the PT Cruiser convertible fall into some truck category, but it's technically a "car."
  21. You've missed the point. CAFE is the WRONG way to go about increasing the fuel efficiency of our vehicles and definitely the wrong way to get people use less petroleum. Buyers don't "need" so many large SUV but the government has made them more desireable so GM will build them...CAFE or no CAFE. It's just good business practice and it only SEEMS that GM's being "attacked." This is one of those areas where they will continue to make lemonade from the lemons. Fewer big SUVs will garner larger prices and larger profit margins. Don't worry about GM. And this might keep some competitors AWAY from this market even longer...further benefitting GM. I don't understand your point. Subaru 4wd wagons have been classified as "multipurpose vehicles" (technically "trucks") for decades. And Subaru's "SUVs" (the Forester and the Tribeca) are tiny and fuel efficient compared to GM's BOF trucks. Again, I don't get your point. The FJ Cruiser isn't "the BIGGEST light duty truck to roll on american roadsl," not by a long shot. And, yes, Toyota has five SUVs....two of which get over 30mpg on the highway and a hybrid potentially does considerably better than that. It's not about SUVs...it's about inefficient SUVs. EPA estimates and real world are two different things. Check into it. The last H2 I had got 11 mpg on the HIGHWAY under normal, underloaded conditions. The last Land Cruiser I had did considerably better (still not "great"). Are you talking about the 2-door Pathfinder issue? Yeah...that was stupid ON THE GOVERNMENT'S PART. So a 2-door SUV is a "truck" but a 4-door SUV is a car? So an imported 2-door SUV gets a 25% tariff but the 4-door version can be imported with a 2.5% tariff? Makes sense to me. See whatever conspiracy theory you want to believe, but I see it as automotive journalists who just don't dig far enough. Toyota and Honda have been able to live with regulatory changes and GM makes a stink about everyone....knowing full well that they'll be able to meet the new standards but GM fans will get behind them and argue that the government (and the media) is out to get them. I think GM's PR campaign has backfired which has caused their drop in market share. Had they just played along like Honda and Toyota have done and improved their vehicles (like they've already done), they'd be in a better place today. I don't agree. I just think it's (as said above) automotive journalists just not doing enough research. Automotive writers are poorly paid and this could be contributing to their lack of research, but whatever the cause, they don't look past the surface...much like many people on this site. If you believe the first thing that comes across your desk or computer...or you have a preconcieved notion of how things work...you'll miss the bigger picture. Ask questions...do research...don't believe everything automatically. Journalists are not paid by Toyota or Honda to bash GM...and good reviews of GM vehicles don't get the coverage on this (and related) site like bad reviews do.
