  1. All of the production seems earmarked for North American sale.
  2. I find it strange that in a survey where half the products are import brands, only 2 import-brand vehicles showed up as top picks. I'm not trying to put down the domestics by any means...but the Dodge Charger is the top pick among "Hybrid/Alternative Fuel Considerers?" Really? And Generation Y is really hoping for a Chevrolet Cobalt? Doesn't this sound like one of the Big3 paid for the survey?
  3. Cadillac's V16 engines from the 1930s.
  4. Aside from the non-automotive stuff (I watched a building move down a highway once), I once passed an Eagle Premier limousine on the highway once.
  5. When I saw the pictures of the Touring Sedan, I had the same opinion. When I saw the car in person, I had quite a different opinion. I was in an Avanti dealership in 1990...and I fell in love. I've seen one other one in person since but I didn't have $14,000 for what amounts to a toy. If I did, I'd be an Avanti Touring Sedan owner today.
  6. Balthazar: I've got a special place in my heart for Studebakers, but the Chevrolet-engined Avantis (this is tough for me to say) are better cars. I just wish the "real" Avantis remained in production long enough to get the LT1 or even the LS1 engine. Loewy's original is a classic design, but I do think the square headlight benzels and thicker bumpers improved the styling. I didn't like it when they removed the turn signals from the front corners and I especially didn't like it when the "AVX" came out based on the Firebird. There was just something about that larger body that appealed to me. The never made an "Avanti II" convertible because the convertible came along after they dropped the "II" part of the name. I believe the convertible was introduced in 1983 and the sedan came along in 1990.
  7. Actually, Chevrolet won't take up even 300,000 units of the plant, but the other two models will fill the rest of the plant's 500,000 (yes, five hundred thousand) unit capacity.
  8. Hard to say four years out, but my guess is that Lucerne would be a good name for it.
  9. I'm not talking about the Firebird and Mustang based ones. I'm talking about the REAL Avanti Motor Corporation cars...the Avanti II and the later models when they dropped the "II". They're not kit cars, they're actual Avantis.
  10. You're not referring to the Tatra are you?
  11. The Avanti was introduced in the 1960s.
  12. Yes...and how many of Wal-Mart's products are now sourced from China? Don't you think that's the direction GM's heading with their demands? Where Toyota nurtures a good quality supplier, GM encourages them to find lower and lower cost parts. GM is pushing (in some cases explicitly) to move to China. And this "buy American" kick that so many on this site are on encourages the purchase of GM products?
  13. I like the Studebaker Avanti, but I prefer the later Avanti Avantis. More power, better handling, available convertibles and sedans....mmmmm....
  14. I think the whole point is being missed here. GM is demanding price reductions from their suppliers year after year. Yorozu either can't afford the price cuts any longer or can use the capacity now being tied up by GM parts for more profitable clients. Either way, GM had better change their ways. When a Toyota supplier has a problem, Toyota helps. When a GM supplier has a problem, GM looks for another supplier...and demands price reductions. This is not a Yorozu problem...it's a GM problem. I just wish more suppliers would do this to GM.
  15. This is the current plan. And Oshawa will be reorganized to build Zetas, which is one of the reasons why the Camaro won't be ready next year.
  16. I like design...and not necessarily what others would see as "good" styling. I, too, like the long hood/short deck design that Ford was famous for from 1964 into the early 1980s, but they're AWFUL to drive (ever driven a Mustang II or and LTD II over a road with peaks and valleys?).I like the bustle-back Continental and Imperial but never liked the Seville (tiny trunk, perhaps). I like the Cadillac valiant attempt at an entry-level luxury car (believe that one) but never liked the Cavalier. I like AMC products and ESPECIALLY the Pacer wagon. I like the Yugo and many Fiats. Yes...I'm odd like that.
  17. Oshawa...about 100,000 units....Zeta platform...that's what I've got for you.
  18. So many of those songs I can't stand. "Iron Man" hasn't aged well with me...and Guns and Roses has been getting old as well. I do like that "Epic" and "Rainbow in the Dark" are there...but where's "Last in Line" or "Flight of Icarus" or "Two Minutes to Midnight" or "You Shook Me All Night Long" or "Difficult to Cure?"
  19. So you know that your information (based on "speculation" and "other sources") is better than mine? You posted that the next GTO has been "greenlighted," and you got this information from where? My information is quite a bit closer to the source than your "speculation." I don't "shut...down" anybody unless they're being completely moronic. And my information is not necessarily 100% correct because things could change (and often do) between when I get information and when the information is created. But I can guarrantee that my information is more accurate than your "speculation." I'm just being nice enough to share it. My information doesn't come from "buff books" or websites. My information comes from GM. You need to get off of your soap box and let others actually explain that they might just know better than you. What does the "next Malibu" have to do with the "gp and GTO replacement?"
  20. Good analysis. What do YOU (evok and others) think would be an appropriate volume to expect from a production Camaro?
  21. I don't know what YOUR source is, but MY source (General Motors) doesn't have a Pontiac in the plan for production in North America and doesn't have a Camaro ready for the 2008 model year.
  22. A buddy of mine and I were heading to the mall to get some cash. About mid-way between school and the mall, my clutch cable broke leaving us stranded miles from anything. It was five o'clock on a Friday which made it nearly impossible to repair my car. A friendly state trooper was called out to assist. My buddy was a little reluctant to get in the back seat of the marked Crown Vic..it seems he's been back there before but not on such friendly terms. Having grown up around the police, I was fine with it. The officer asked where we were going and he was happy to swing by the mall before taking us back to the dorms. Sitting at a traffic light, I decided to have a little fun. Two lanes over was another car with a teenager sitting in the passenger seat. Slumped down in the back of the cruiser, I turned to my buddy and said "watch this." I crossed by wrists as if they were bound together with cuffs, raised my hands into the window and quickly waved at the little girl. She quickly informed the kids in the back seat of her car that the "criminal" in the police car had just waved. They all popped up to take a look. My buddy was not as ammused as I was.
  23. For one, there's no Pontiac at all in the current plans.
