  1. Too many on this site are blinded by their affection for GM to notice that there are some good cars on the other side of the Pacific.I don't know that the TC3 was rare enough to fit into that last category...it was relatively popular. I just thought of another Asian FWD car that should be included: Kia Elan.
  2. Most of them have been mentioned so far: Chrysler's TC by Maserati (DOHC models) Cord L29 and 810/812 Early Mini and late "original" Mini Probably: Buick Reatta (specifically the convertible) Cadillac Allante (specifically the Northstar) Ford Taurus SHO Oldsmobile Toronado (possibly first and second generation) More models (not necessarily in this order): Lotus Elan Shelby GLH-S Shelby Lancer Shelby CSX and CSX-T Dodge Spirit R/T Dodge Daytona IROC Ruxton (I keep hoping...nobody seems to care) NSU Ro80 (probably a long-shot because it's a four-door sedan) Subaru SVX Chrysler Town & Country convertible Toyota Corolla FX16 Buick Riviera convertible (especially the XX model) Chrysler Limousine and Executive Sedan Renault GTA (especially the convertible) Honda Civic CRX SI (first generation) Lancia Thema 8.32 Rare FWD models that nobody will ever care about: Mercury Monterey Saturn Relay Datsun F10 Suzuki Swift GT/GTi Yugo Cabrio Ford Escort EXP Mercury Lynx LN7 Ford Escort Diesel Ford Tempo Diesel Dodge Omni 024 deTomaso
  3. I don't see what the CAW is worried about. The two assembly plants in Canada are among the best (from a product and capacity utiliization perspective) that Chrysler has. If anything, people in St. Louis should be worried. I think Kerkorian is the one who SHOULD take over Chrysler.
  4. And I see Sammy Hagar as the group's savior. To each his own, I guess.
  5. Christian or not...teenagers or not...I find some of it to be so funny. Are mainstream "Christians" taught that all science is wrong and that God miraculously created everything (you know, aside from Van Halen and "24" which were obviously brought on by Satan himself)? I know of many people (non-left leaning) who believe that much of science is correct and can be adapted to their own beliefs in God. But honestly, how many people are there out in the world who believe that all scientists are wrong?
  6. Early 1990s...but it's still WAY out of date. NAFTA made Canada part of "domestic" production for CAFE.
  7. Not so. The "people who buy Hyundais" are becoming your neighbors more and more. Each generation of Hyundai appeals to new buyers. The Elantra, Sonata, Azera, and Entourage are opening new markets every day for Hyundai. The new "Genesis" will do the same when it arrives next year...as will the next generation Tiburon. I don't see why Hyundai won't be a success at pickups as well. If you automatically write-off Hyundai as a non-entity in any segment, you haven't been paying attention...and you're setting yourself up to be disappointed.
  8. I like how the typically conservative nature of the posts on this site turn left-wing when it helps their cause. Toyota pollutes with 100,000 full-sized pickups a year while Ford and GM each do it with a million. Yet, Toyota's the one to protest? Toyota sells 120,000 low-emission hybrids a year while Ford sells about 10,000 and GM has none (no real hybrids, anyway)...and yet Toyota's the one to protest. I don't have a problem when GM is the one being wronged and you guys complain...I even try to give the benefit of doubt when the point isn't so obvious. But if Toyota's getting bashed for no good reason, you guys should be just as upset (okay, slightly less) than if it happened to GM. If it's Toyota today, why won't it be GM or Ford or anyone else tomorrow?
  9. The "triplets" in the second picture are small...maybe five-feet tall, so it makes the cars look larger than they are.
  10. Not at all. It's going into production in Mexico and will go on sale in the US.
  11. The next-generation Astra has plants earmarked for it in North America...and there is atleast one more product penciled in for Spring Hill.
  12. Spring Hill will be getting another product, but the Astra will be going to other plants.
  13. I'm reminded of that scene from "This is Spinal Tap." It still has the tag on it. It's never been played. Don't even look at it.It's a waste of a car. If it had SOME mileage on it, you could drive it occasionally. If it had lots of miles, you could even beat on it. With nothing on the odometer, it's too rare to touch. It's nearly worthless to own.
  14. Nobody makes a car or truck with a third center-mounted airbag. There are so few models on the market today that have seatbelts for a third front-seat passenger that I'm sure no supplier has ever been asked to come up with such an item. I do, however, remember the advertising mentioned by VenSeattle about the Cadillac Deville with the over-sized passenger-side airbag. That has to be the only case that I'm aware of where the airbags accomodate a third person.

    JAPAN

And this gets reposted every few months...for the past few YEARS. It's old and mostly inaccurate data.
  16. It's not, but the F-Series uses it. GM has a 4.3L V6 in trucks.
  17. How many people think that the Jeep Grand Cherokee is "car-based?" How similar are the characteristics between it and a car? Just because it's unibody doesn't mean it has car-like characteristics. You can make a wholly-off-road capable unibody truck just like you can make a very "car-like" body-on-frame sedan. Nobody confuses the Murano for the last-generation Pathfinder just because they're both unibody. Since the next-generation QX will be built in Japan, basing it on the Patrol would make sense. Which is basically a Dodge version of the Sebring. How is it different calling it "Avenger-based" as opposed to "Sebring-based?" How's that different than saying the Pontiac G6 is Malibu-based or 9-3-based? Which one would that be?
  18. She appeared on Letterman just the other night performing Rehab.
  19. I see it the other way around. The next Pathfinder and probably the Xterra will be unibody while the bigger trucks will remain based on the full-sized pickup. The last generation Pathfinder was unibody (as is the Jeep Grand Cherokee) and it didn't hurt the model's off-road reputation.
  20. You're right that the article only discusses the new model, but Hyundai has been looking into a Lexus-like brand for a number of years now. Hyundai, the company, is being very aggressive in its marketing in the US while dealers are a little more conservative. Additions like the minivan and the bigger Santa Fe are good for the US market but Hyundai may be rushing a bit with this new sedan (I saw it in person a few years back) and their desire to have a full-sized pickup.
  21. Nearly all Nissan-branded vehicles are built in North America. A Nissan dealer doesn't sell Infinitis...so it does matter.
  22. To the topic: I just read an article on CNNMoney that says that 70% of the vehicles sold by Nissan (which includes Infiniti) are built in North America...which could be where that quoted figure comes from.
  23. He's been misled and confused. Most Nissan-brand models are produced in North America...only the 350Z and Murano are imported. Of the US-built vehicles, I would bet that they have more than 70% domestic content, but to say that "70% of Nissans parts are manufactured in america" or "pretty much the last time Nissan was a japanese car was 2000" would be in error.
  24. The two generations of reports I've seen both had all four in Oshawa. The first generation (over a year old) had the Impala significantly lower in volume (about 150,000), but the more recent plan has it in the 250,000 range.
