  1. No different than parking the Quad Cab...since they're the same size.As for the first part of your comment...I haven't been surveying male genitalia, but I'm sure there's a government-funded report on such things.
  2. They were individually on WDRE (alternative rock) in Philly back in the mid 1990s. When that station was closed in 1997, they moved to Y100 (pop-orietned alternative rock) where they became the morning show (along with Marilyn Russell, another 'DRE refugee). When Y100 closed (the same company bought Y100 and WDRE), they moved to WMMR (rock). I've been listening to them the whole time.Their websites (WMMR and Presont & Steve) are entertaining as well. And if you go to YRock on XPN (http://www.yrockonxpn.org/wdre.html) you can find some clips from when these guys were at WDRE. Steve used to do the funniest commercials on there, something he says he no longer has time to do.
  3. There are two levels I picked up on this commercial, and your comment skirts both of them.First, it's a word called "anticipation." For far too long, car companies have been whetting the consumers' appetites for new vehicles by SHOWING them for months in advance. Is anyone else here old enough to remember when commercials used to say "coming" and NOT show a clean shot of the car? It would build anticipation for the new car, which I thought was great! Now commercials (and magazines) show the vehicles so far in advance that it does nothing more than delay sales of that company's cars. Potential Camry or Accord buyers aren't going to wait around for a new "mystery" Big3 product. And the potential Big3 buyers ARE going to wait until the new vehicle shows up before making a purchase, taking sales from year-end vehicles. Second is the use of the Cutlass. That "random Cutlass from the 90s" is more like the direct sibling to the P90 Malibu, which makes me think that the advertising firm was either purposefully stating that GM's old designs were ignored and that the new vehicle's styling is worth noticing (which I'm hoping for) OR they picked a random generic vehicle that could not be traced to a competitive vehicle which would be considered BASHING and just happened to get the twin of the Malibu (which I'm hoping against). I don't think that GM's statement was that their good products were being ignored (because how many people here are going to defend the P90 Malibu/Cutlass as being "erroneously overlooked" in the marketplace?). I'm hoping that they're making a comment that their new products are worth noting and that only people in the know (like people on this site) would know that the Cutlass in the ad is the same vehicle as the Malibu from two generations ago. I don't see how. If they actually bought one of those cars and are happy, won't they be happy with a BETTER vehicle (which the ad eludes to)? If they didn't like the cars of the late 1990s, this ad would tell them "we're better now, come back and give us another look." It's a win-win.
  4. This thing must get "Murder She Wrote"
  5. The last time I saw a Chrysler plan, there was no Chrysler Aspen in there. The next-generation Durango was planned to share much with the next-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Commander would be merged in as a 7-passenger version of the next Grand Cherokee. They screwed up the Sebring (both sedan and convertible) which was a nice car in its last generation and a terrible one in the current generation. I thought the Compass could have been some sort of rally-like vehicle (STI or Evolution), but they just made it this cheap "chick Jeep" instead. Do something about the quality of all of the interiors, especially the front-wheel drive models. Merge the Magnum into the 300 and/or Charger. Replace (don't eliminate) the Pacifica with something a bit more competitive. And then they'll have a start.
  6. Today's cars are too good. There are very few inherent flaws in modern cars...from any manufacturer. In order to tell one from another, you need to be nit-picky. It's virtually the only way to tell one car from another. As a test, Balthazar, could YOU write a review article...say 1,000 words, on a new product without any bias or any of the flaws you find in modern review articles?
  7. Maybe...until you realize that a 1978-9 Corvette didn't have much more power than the current Civic SI, and in some cases, it had far less.
  8. If anyone has the 25th anniversary issue of Car and Driver (sometime in 1980), they listed the quickest cars they ever tested 0-60. Their record holder was the 1965 (or 1964, forgive my memory) Pontiac 2+2 which recorded a 0-60 time of 2.9 seconds, as I recall. That number is so low that I've got to question if their measuring devices weren't at fault. I hope not, but I still have to question it.
  9. I'm not defending "yet another car review source," but you're bashing it based on them not giving you the granular details of how they weigh the measurements? I understood the description...it's weighing the factors based on how much the public cares. If fuel economy is important, than it will be weighted more than something like rear seat comfort, if that's less important. What's the problem? There is plenty out there in the automotive trade to bash. This just doesn't seem to merit an entire bashing thread.
  10. You guys know that I'll argue against comments on this site when I believe they're wrong. But this guy hasn't got a clue...on so many levels. Keep bombarding him with tastefully negative comments.
  11. You and I work in similar ways. About the only thing that can be predicted about my nomadic pattern at Carlisle or Hershey is that I'll find the literature dealers along the way.
  12. I'm not buying it. Fiorino is a well-known name for Fiat trucks...and not a name in and of itself. It was the name of currency in Tuscany in the early 1800s, which isn't a bad name for a commercial vehicle meant to make money.I don't have a problem with Nemo or Bipper either.
  13. Enjoy! Would like to meet you sometime. I'll be in Hershey a week from Saturday...if you're around.
  14. Anyone going to Carlisle this week? If so, let me know what day you'll be there.
  15. I can understand that opinion. No problems here.I, personally, prefer small cars to NOT look like small big cars. I don't mind it when small cars have different proportions than their larger siblings. When the domestics started making small cars, they were simply downsized large cars instead of clean-sheet designs. I like the SX4 sedan on its own merits. I also like the proportions of the Suzuki Verona...which I find very attractive.
  16. I have just the opposite reaction. I think the rear end of the hatchback is far more "odd" than the sedan, which I think is particularly attractive.
  17. I guess that's why they make so many flavors. I prefer the styling of the sedan to the "stubby" hatchback. Here's the last new car event I attended...and the SX4 was there as well: http://www.carspace.com/hudsonthedog/Albums/2007IMPATestDay/

    TiVo

It depends on what you want to do with it. I keep shows for a week or so, watch them, then get rid of them. If you need to keep lots of shows on file, then you'll want more. With the 13-hour box, I learned to live with it...and it wasn't difficult. A show or two would get erased when the two or three-day time limit was up. The new hard drive allows for more shows to remain in memory longer. I haven't noticed any problems when the machine gets full. But as I've been told on a few occasions, whatever size you THINK you need, get the next size up.

    TiVo

I got my TiVo in late 2000 and it took only a few weeks to wonder what life was like before it. Back then, however, they had a lifetime subscription package that cost about as much as a 2-year committment. Seven years later, it's free for me. If you get a TiVo, there's a great source at www.weaknees.com that provides TiVo upgrades and such. After about six years of use, my TiVo started acting up. The sound would drop out. It got so bad that the closed captioning had to be left on just so dialog could be read! I didn't want to get a new TiVo because that would cost $13 a month (the lifetime subscription is the lifetime of your TiVo, not you). But Weaknees offered a pre-configured 80hr harddrive (up from the 13 hour drive that came in my original Tivo) for less than a year's subscription. It works great!

    C.I.B v-6s

It's three V6s with five sizes...but even that's too many. Two of them have been on life-support for quite some time, though.
  21. I normally take sides with the authors in these sorts of articles because it's usually the C&G guys taking GM's side above all. BUT.... Who's this John Wolkonowicz moron? That company has gone WAY downhill since I knew everyone there. That quote by Mr. Wolkonowicz (and I'm trying to be civil here) is highly uneducated and seems like it comes from someone just looking to get their name in print. The people I knew like that kept a notepad where they jotted down quotable one-liners when they came to mind. If that's his best, Global Insight should let him go.
  22. I figured...I didn't want someone else to get confused, that's all.
  23. Correction. Most US plants other than Moraine are UAW organized. The Moraine (Ohio) plant that makes the Trailblazer (and related SUVs) is not UAW. It is under the International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Salaried, Machine and Furniture Workers-Communications Workers of America (IUE/CWA). Canadian plants fall under the CAW. Unionized Mexican plants are controlled by a local union.
  24. Reporter: What kind of plane is it? Johnny: Oh, it's a big pretty white plane with red stripes, curtains in the windows and wheels and it looks like a big Tylenol.
  25. I believe CNN.com reported, "Frank, 22, suffered a minor head wound in the crash and his friends were treated for unspecified injuries, according to the affidavit."One can only imagine what the "unspecified injuries" include. Anyone ever see "The World According to Garp?"
