Chevrolet News:The Order Books Close On Chevrolet SS
67impss replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
I've been thinking a bit and sorry if I don't make 3 separate post's but here we go. On the Holden/Chevy SS issue I was thinking more like the out going CTS as a replacement. It's going to leave the Cadillac fold and GM has used other models in this manner. We talked about this before in that Cadillac options and features would trickle down to the remaining divisions. In this case the entire car with the benefit of a new skin possibly add some harshness to the tune and utilize the car for a 3to4 more years. After all it is a low volume nich. On the sale of Opel will Chevrolet be the feeder for Holden here shortly or will Holden be thrust into more of a r&d center? GM could reverse the decision and throw them a bone of one model to build and develope with Ozland the test market it could be like the Chevy SS as a intermittent model of three year runs since GM likes to be so conservative with NA releases. I think the Aussie's have always gave GM more bang for the buck unlike Opel with massive losses dating back to my knowledge at least to the 70's.- 13 replies

SMART News:Smart To Be Electric Only For North America
67impss replied to William Maley's topic in SMART
Wow how soon will we see them in the campgrounds and has Ezgo's stock dropped yet? Will Ezgo raise their mph or Smart lower theirs? -
Does anyone else get the vibe of the Fiat deal before the financial meltdown? The one with the put involved for like 4 billion. GM has put all their eggs in the basket for the midsized platform, most of Buick, an electrified lineup with GM technology, a streathened PSA to do battle with in 7-10 years ...

SMK the thing you are failing to realize is these officers don't wear t shirts and dockers.Their vehicles have far more equipment than the Europeans do. A vest adds about 3" girth an equipment belt another 6" service weapon about 3" more. Then the laptop desk can you see the need for width / also Americans are at least 1 size larger than Europeans are. I'm 2nd generation removed from Europe and my cousins in Germany wear 32-34 waist to my & my siblings 38-42

Hell if he wants a mid size tell him to read the alpar wiki to find out how CryCo did it on the cheap. The formula is right there in black and white, worked once do it again. They (Dakotas) became unprofitable when Durango went full sizeish with the Aspen. Then without the economic advantage of a suv stablemate and de-contenting plus the melt down, just withered on the vine.

Yeah just tell the truth we don't need this plague in the GM camp just as the midsize twins are selling like hotcakes. Is this engine the VM Mortori 3.0l V6 or the EcoTech i4? If the i4 the Media will surely cast shadows on the domestic Cruze also

I like it(after all it is a wagon) I agree that it will need the practicality it of course is a Volvo. If the hatch glass is independent of the hatch that would help.

I could see cng making those gains because of the octane rating of it being able to support the approximate 18 to 1 that in theory cng could burn at without explosion. Then again there is the matter of the 10% advantage that diesel has over gasoline. Diesel will always make more torque and with governments(all) regulations cars will continue to gain weight. Alas as battery tech gets better and more are built the cost advantage that the ice powered vehicals have now will evaporate as will its marketshare

I do like the flat-4 sound I to like a flat 4 or 6 and prefer an engine be tuned for torque vs. horsepower as balthzy says the low rumble of American iron. Just give me those GM tunes of 90% power off idle to red line I don't want an anemic engine no matter what size it is.

If the Honda I believe S600 were available state side I'd be interested for the fun go-kart factor but the practice side of me says Eilo all the way. I think we Americans should go this route allowing us to drive our comfortable cars/trucks on weekends or trips
