  1. How would you know? Sounds like they are going to use Volvo platforms... so I would expect at least Volvo level of quality. My two experiences with Geely came on company paid trips to train engineers in China and both times I had to shake my head at what would only be considered a China version of a Yugo. If they change and use Volvo then they really have stepped up. I still do not think it will be Volvo quality.
  2. WOW Who knew that the G- Wagon was the German version of a ricer auto but without the quality. G Wagon Kits. http://www.ebay.com/bhp/g-class-body-kit http://www.bodykits.com/Mercedes/G-Class/Body-Kits-Conversions/Body-Kits/ Boy can you make this brick on wheels any uglier.
  3. Interesting that the first test drive is in on the ATS-V and while they said it was not perfect, it was a perfect balance between the precision of BMW M3 and the unrefined muscle car roar of the C63 AMG to pound them both. https://www.yahoo.co...7428265087.html Have to say the videos of the ATS-V are inspiring and clearly this writer hit the nail on the head with the following quote "Cadillac has been producing some stellar performance cars over the past few years, but outside our geeky gearhead walls, the general consensus — rather unfairly — is that Cadillac's are still for old, withered gentleman with hips that beep every time they go through airport security. It remains a long road, then, to educate the uneducated, and it’s cars like the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V that must turn the tide." Cadillac is on the right road to show that MB and BMW are now the Old Mans Cars and Cadillac is the true driving machine!
  4. Very cool B man, that is awesome to see. Sorry to hear the tire rot is not working out.
  5. So stupid name Geely will now enter the US to replace what used to be handled by Kia and Hyundia. The cheap none reliable crap car.
  6. You could do no better than to trade in for the Buick Regal Turbo. They are outstanding rides and the Quiet tuning with performance is amazing. I know I am the Odd Shrek out at 6'6" tall so one thing to consider is if you have people over 6'2" tall they might find the back seat a bit tight for long drives otherwise a great car for the masses who want refined performance.
  7. We'll this will be interesting as it will give Cadillac another whale to hunt and pound into the ground. 8. I disagree, there is still plenty of Mormons who love the Suburbans to haul their families and then plenty of people buying trailers to camp and travel North America. I suspect most other companies are happy to leave this to GM at this point and focus on other markets. Now use a 450HP, 600lb ftt of torque electric motor with a battery pack that last 400 to 500 miles and these will be the rage again for everyone.
  9. Ford it spending $2.5 billion to update their plant for new motors and transmissions. Labor cost is lower and with NAFTA there is nothing to stop blue collar jobs from going to the lowest labor cost market. I think the over all affect is already felt and that Toyota is doing like everyone else, just updating their plants to keep them current with what needs to be built.
  10. In our Alternative Fuel section we have covered two stories on this. Tesla has you Covered, Really? http://www.cheersandgears.com/topic/84605-tesla-has-you-covered-really/ Electric Highway West Coast Style! http://www.cheersandgears.com/topic/84688-electric-highway-west-coast-style/ Check out the discussions there. Personally living in Seattle, we have plenty of superfast charging stations and of course the state will pay for a home charging unit. You still have either 30 min wait for the 440 chargers in a few locations, about 4hr if a 220 charging unit or about 8-12hrs for the 110 charging units. Most Tesla drivers seem to get about 200-240 miles per charge. Keep in mind the battery range is heavily affected by what you use in the auto. AC, all the various electronics, etc. Your range will vary based on electronic usage but over all a solid auto that if you can afford it then go for it and enjoy.
  11. Usually the 1% crowd does not visit us here much, but the few people that have been in them do seem to really love them. While I like the look and doors on the Tesla X, I have to wonder if they will really be able to deliver. No new photo's have been taken of the auto in testing nor has anyone seen these doors in the wild of testing so I have to question if Tesla can really deliver.
  12. Wonder how soon before we see the first wrecked one just like the Hellcat that the idiot destroyed only hours after buying it.
  13. VW is heading down the same path of Old GM. The future is bleak for VW and their ultra conservative approach to auto's and lack of quality. Might as well merge VW and Fiat and then flush out all the old executives and board and kill off the products that suck and stop wasting billions on old name plates that should not be brought back.
  14. So my wife got her new subscription to Conde Nast Traveler. There in the first few pages of the magazine is the Cadillac ad some of you have talked about but I have till today not seen. Dare to be Different! Anyone else seen these ads or where Cadillac has been advertising as this is the first in a long time. I see nothing on TV, nothing in newspapers and this is a first for magazines.
  15. Interesting concept, sad that it took someone out of GM to show that there was and still is potential in these car based trucks.
  16. WOW, So the red marker light gets star head screws and the turn signal get philips screws and the door latch has two different phillip screws. What Freakin Idiots buy crap like this. The G is built like crapy cheap grey market computers using all the left overs so no two systems are truly alike except in numbers. This is built just like that left over screws, parts, etc to use them up. Very sad.
  17. Yes, agreed. But, rather tired of companies leveraging their heritage ... & not being true to that heritage. *bites tongue* Cort www.oldcarsstronghearts.com 1979 & 1989 Caprice Classics | pigValve, paceMaker, cowValve "Just another regret" __ All-American Rejects __ 'Dirty Little Secret' Agreed, If you are going to leverage the Heritage, then make sure to incorporate some of it.
  18. I can tell you from personal experience that private rail car across the US is one of the most amazing experiences in a life time and very relaxing. My wife and I was taken on a trip from Seattle to Chicago and onto NY on the Scottish Thistle Private Rail Car. Just recently sold but still available for private excursions. http://www.railmerchants.net/thistle/ A review of the Thistle and lots of pictures. http://www.trainweb.com/travel/stevelog/1999h24a.html I had the pleasure of going on this by a friend named Jerome. Journey starting in Seattle. Glacier National Park North Dakota bad lands Shelby ND In Chicago waiting to leave for the next leg to the east coast. Jerome the gentleman in blue over the name.
  19. Where is the Beaver to do his job when you want him?
  20. Interesting, I happen to agree with the differences in who will spend what. My baby boomer parents want to spend minimal even when they do like a technology, they still do not want to pay for it compared to younger people who do not seem to mind to pay for it. I agree that I think all OEM's should offer both systems in an auto allowing for the owner to make a choice based on their preference for phone use. I for one cannot stand apple products as I feel their design and UI is confusing and not user friendly. Yet I love the Android system that Samsung has built into their phones as well as Windows phones. So for me who buys luxury auto's they need to support me as much as the iOS crowd.
