Cadillac News: Cadillac Announces XT5 Crossover To Debut At Dubai
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
Correction the M5 never set the standard, it is a FAT PIG under powered and underwhelming. The M3 set the standard that Cadillac used to bench what became the CTS-V.- 54 replies

Nice update on these 3 sedans, I still find all 3 to be boring in the design department, interiors are just ok. Not sure what it is about these 3 sedans but they just lack passion and do nothing for making me want to test drive one. It would be interesting to see the long term on a Mazda 6 as coworkers who have the new 2016 model has had it back in for multiple things breaking including the electric system on the drivers seat.

FAIL!!!!! Could you not make it any uglier and what is up with the cheap ass dash. They are too cheap to build proper left and right hand dashes so they have gone to the ultimate cheap center dash. Toyota truly has gone to a lower level than any other name plate.

Found this read very interesting, the woman responsible for the NSX designs grew up in California surrounded by the car culture and old hot-rods and her love of the best auto being the timeless 67 Chevelle. http://blog.caranddriver.com/acura-nsx-designer-michelle-christensen-on-the-influence-of-nature-and-the-67-chevelle/?mag=cad&click=yr

Wings I get what you are saying, but let me ask you this as I have never really gotten a good answer myself. WHY does the pushrod engines seem to have a flater torque curve than the DOHC ending up with Pushrod's having more torque than I see out of any DOHC engine? Pushrods always have higher torque than HP for the most part and you get it all the way to red line with HP still pulling. My trailblazer SS AWD is a perfect example of punch in the gut feel as you accelerate all the way into triple digits. DOHC as I have experienced has a fun factor also but I never get that gut feel of force pushing you back into the seat and at the high end I also do not feel that the engine is still pulling strong. Interesting is that we are not the only ones to debate the pushrod versus DOHC debate and plenty of wrong info is out there. http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f19/pushrod-v8-vs-dohc-v8-verdict-82942/ https://www.allpar.com/eek/cams.html http://www.caranddriver.com/columns/pushrods-versus-overhead-cams-part-38-modern-v-8s-from-gm-and-amg-slug-it-out http://killwithfire.blogspot.com/2011/10/dohc-vs-pushrod-vs-diesel-which-engine.html Have to say that I found all the links with info that was valid and interesting, plus plenty of ignorance especially those that say pushrods or far more heavier than DOHC engines and make less HP / Torque than DOHC design. Really interesting to see the wide variety of knowledge on the subject.

But the question is how long. This something that comes up whenever we talk about Cadillac. I've argued and still do that Cadillac still has a long way to go; they got the cars, now they need better experiences at dealers, services, and ownership. Also, I will agree with Peter on the CTS. I just drove a CTS VSport back in August, and was floored by how good it was. Totally agree with you about the dealership experience. While I get great service from my Cadillac dealership, the building used to be an Oldsmobile, Buick, and Cadillac dealership and was originally built in 1947. The building smells of stale old age and as you look around you still see old name plates from the two brands that are no longer sold here. Plus there is the new badges from when the old owner decided to sell Suzuki along side Cadillac in 2007. Been under new ownership for 3 years now and is way better, but still they need a modern dealership. -
Quick Drive: 2014 Cadillac XTS VSport Premium
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Reviews
Haldex systems are for front drive, or at least AWD systems that normally run FWD. There is an episode of Autoline after hours with one of the lead engineers at VW and he explained how the Haldex system works and that is what is on the VW models, and the Audi A3 and Q3. On those cars it is like 90% front drive unless the wheels slip, he said the differentials would overheat if they ran rear drive, they can only do it for short periods. The Audi A4/A6/A8 use a totally different system that runs more rear bias. CTS has to use something different than haldex, something that can run 55% or more rear bias. While GM sold off it's interest in Subaru, I thought they kept the rights to use the Subaru AWD system in their auto's?- 27 replies

Using A/C is killing my fuel economy, any ideas??
G. David Felt replied to cp-the-nerd's topic in Tech Section
Keep in mind for a person that has allergies to so many things, AC and the filtered air it blows is a relief from the attack on ones nose. Sadly my daughter was fine till 13 and with the change that comes in a young woman's body, her body decided to make her allergic to many of the outside items and foods. So now a strict diet along with a dread of spring and fall when things rapidly change has her use AC with filtration so she can drive around without her nose and body reacting horribly. One of the best things ever was auto's with filters for outside air and the AC to keep one comfy on hot days. -
LOL, Watch it Ocnblu, they just might then take this to the next level of making this ugly brick an EV.

Cadillac News: Cadillac Announces XT5 Crossover To Debut At Dubai
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
Who says other than you always that the rear wheels are the correct wheels for driving an auto? As your halo brand moves to become more like Chevy and Toyota, you will find more and more FWD appliances in America mark my words. It will happen. Plus most people do not know or care about fwd or rwd. Only us auto nuts care and that is personal preference based on the type of auto.- 54 replies

Exterior will be a hit with sport jocks, music stars and some hollywood types. Interior is nice, exterior I have mixed emotions on, end result, because of its limited status, the uber rich will buy and show off. This will be a hit.

Nicely written piece, At one time people could not emotionally jump to MB as a luxury maker in comparison to cadillac the brand that all others were measured by. It will take time to overcome this attitude. I personally think it will eventually change and people will see Cadillac as the luxury car maker they see BMW and MB as. In fact I think BMW and MB are tarnishing their luxury label by having their badges compete in the Chevy / Toyota level as well as the commercial truck level with the vans. -
North star was a Good engine, but not a great engine and while it had HP, it is like all DOHC V8 engines lacking in Torque. Why have a bunch of HP that never really gets used and you have to near redline it to get all your torque plus HP. Fact is that the simpler Pushrod engines did the job with much less complexity, easier time in maintenance and over all longer life. I see more DOHC engines needing major repairs and they have not lived 100K let alone 200K miles. No I am not talking about the blah bland 4 banger designs that for the most part are all about MPG and have lack luster get up and go, but the V6 and V8 engines that seem to leave much to be wanted.

Kinda like how the MB AMG are still a Nazi driven white supremacist focused auto. To superior for anyone but white people to drive or own and was clearly passed over by the REDNECK MUSCLE CAR! If we were to all slight auto's with preconceived ideas, then you truly only see the superior white race and their auto being the only thing out there. In all honesty this is how we never can move on, no matter how much education should be the great equalizer to allow men and woman to communicate and debate ideas, when you have to use a derogatory comment like this about something that bested your prized MB products, you show a racist attitude that is a shame. When will some of you guys GROW UP and discuss the technology and auto's for what they are WITHOUT having to use slander of this nature. Does it really mater if a person is from the small mountain town or a major city, likes wearing current fashion or is more comfortable in blue jeans and a t-shirt? Is this how you feel about people that do not fit into the norm of hetrosexual society? That if you are not part of the given hetro married crowd you are less than the rest? SMK you need to grow up, drop the name calling and back handed slander and focus on the auto's or move onto another forum. I am tired of you and the MT crowd that CANNOT focus on the passion of the auto's and debate the merits without being so ignorant.

Is there any more thought on this thread in regards to the topic of WHY GM SHOULD NOT BUILD A DOHC V8? If Not then I ask the admin to lock this thread and stop the stupid banter of the wasted above page. Thank you,
