  1. G. David Felt Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.CheersandGears.com Electric NASCAR Dreams by Bill Nye The Science Guy Over at the INQUISITR web site, they posted their story about Bill Nye the Science Guy. Bill says that NASCAR is holding back the auto industry by relying on old technology. The races run engines using carburetors, getting about 2-3 MPG and sending a ton of Green House gas into the atmosphere. Bill is quoted as follows: “We could convert all of our race cars to electricity – right now – and show the public exactly what electrons can do. And most significant from my point of view, everyone in the crowd, every race fan, would want an electric car! The market for electric cars would go crazy.” They also quote Fox Sports response to Bill: Fox Sports, a critic of Bill’s plans has already rejected it as impossible; Fans won’t like the quieter cars or the lack of exhaust fumes in the air, and nobody will want to pay to convert all of their cars to electric. Bill counters this with pointing to the F1 Electric racing that has taken off and is growing in popularity. People can talk in normal tones about the race without having to shout and loose hearing as they do at NASCAR. You can read Bill Nye the Science Guy original BLOG post here! Bill looks back on his roots of growing up in Durham North Carolina and how he loved NASCAR. Sadly NASCAR has not grown up with technology and the 21st Century according to BILL. So what are your thoughts on this, Should NASCAR change over to Electric and have quick change battery packs to run their races? Will the Fans hate it or embrace it the way F1 fans have? What are your thoughts?
  2. G. David Felt Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.CheersandGears.com 7 Decades Later Land Rover Defender Dies! CNN Style is reporting that the production of the Iconic Defender has come to an end. Based on and a compliment to the Jeep Willey, the Land Rover Defender was a box use by the UK Military, Ambulance services, Police and Explorers the world over and Land Rover says that two thirds of the two million plus Defenders manufactured since 1948 are still on the road or off running strong today. History tid bit is that the box design that never got curvy was due to the lack of stamping machinery after the war, steel was not readily available but aluminum was leading to the long life that the Defenders have. More details and some awesome pictures of the Defender and it's manufacture here: Land Rover Defender News
  3. Wings thanks for posting some good info. In regards to me possibly trolling or snipping about debt, it is just a valid concern of real life. I do not like companies that use bankruptcy, but then it does happen. I am more pissed off with Idiots like Trump that dump not once, twice but three times both business and personal over a 7 year span to increase his wealth and dump the debt on the little guy or in this case guys AKA the hard working american. I am very happy for Ford having felt the need to get cash via loans and prep for the down turn. The interesting issue I have with Ford Debt is when you REVIEW the last 5 years you see they had debt paid down to 27 Billion by 2011 and now they are over 100 Billion. You are saying it cost them 73 billion to build 3 new platforms? This is my concern with Toyota also who leads all Auto companies with 165 Billion in Debt. Sales, Profits, etc seem to be a bit out of line compared to the debt. I just do not want people to loose jobs during the next down turn due to CEOs and the boards not properly paying down debt and paying key executives crazy multi million pay packages.
  4. G. David Felt Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.CheersandGears.com EV Car Owners Allowed To Use Bus Lanes in UK Cities UK DOT has given the top 8 cities funds to install electric chargers, preferred parking spots and advertise in a bid to encourage citizens to turn in their petrol auto and move to EVs. The biggest benefit is EVs are now allowed to use the dedicated Bus Lanes all over even if they are a single driver. According to "the guardian" the UK sees this as their solution to meeting the carbon budget and cut the illegal levels of nitrogen dioxide pollution that chokes British cities. England's government give £5,000 to buyers of Electric autos. To quote the guardian, "Milton Keynes and Derby will copy similar measures in Norway and allow the cars to drive in miles of bus lanes, while owners in Hackney will be able to plug in at street lights. York drivers will be able to recharge their batteries at a solar-powered park-and-ride and electric car owners in Bristol and Milton Keynes will be allowed to park for free." The full Story is found here. So what do you think, is allowing EVs to use dedicated Bus lanes a smart move? what about some of the other perks various cities mentioned above have done to encourage EV purchases and use? Could this be the start of a push to rid Diesels from the streets and get auto's to alternative fuels? Sound off on what you think about this!
  5. But SMK always says an auto is $h! if it does not have a V8! So this Truck will be $h! from the Get Go after all it is NOT a REAL MB but a rebadge Nissan! On top of this, never seen a Sprinter dealership in my life, as Balthazar has stated, I only find MB Dealerships with the Sprinter vans out front next to the S, E, C, etc. class of auto. So being the German Version of Chevy, this should fit right in for the RedNeck buyers next to the Sprinter Family haulers.
  6. Really? Yes Really, We are seeing a global slow down and there are plenty of indicators that the US could move towards slow growth. If so then this could really hurt FORD especially with the South American market supposedly increasing in losses. So a good year is excellent, but how does it compare to the debt load they are carrying? We'll some good news and some bad news. Ford is currently rated #3 in its category so it is handling debt ok better than allot but could still improve. https://www.macroaxis.com/invest/ratioCompare/F--Debt_to_Equity--Current_Ratio Debt to Equity stands at 4.58 times earnings, so again good, hopefully with their big cash earned they pay some debt down. https://www.macroaxis.com/invest/ratioCompare/F--Debt-to-Equity--Cash-and-Equivalents Total Debt = Bonds + Notes = $126.42 billion owed to creditors. https://www.macroaxis.com/invest/ratioCompare/F--Debt-to-Equity--Total-Debt Alternative source of comparing their debt to equity ratio in the industry. https://ycharts.com/companies/F/debt_equity_ratio Ford Debt to Equity is 4.58 times earnings. GM Debt to Equity is 1.657 times earnings. FCA Debt to Equity is 2.196 times earnings. Tesla Debt to Equity is 2.017 times earnings. Intersting Analysis of Ford compared to Toyota, Honda, GM, TATA, Based on this I am surprised to see Toyota with such high Debt, Higher than FORD. Toyota Debt is 165.89 billion. https://www.macroaxis.com/invest/compare/F Pretty interesting numbers to compare. I hope the world market does not dump too hard with Europe and Asia in a down turn.
  7. Yes to some this is a dated design, to others it is a conservative design that will appeal to those wanting a convertible in the sun belt. Over all this will sell and make some money before being retired. No lose, but marginal gain I see.
  8. Just make it look ten thousand times better than the hideous Caliber and you'd have a winner. Guess they can always go back to the Neon, that was a huge hit for them.
  9. Wonder how much they have paid down on their huge 50+ billion dollar loan? Anyone know?
  10. True, but if you start off with a free car, convert it and able to drive it for work and errands then the savings is huge. Personally I think the first video on the Festiva conversion was more for learning and information than building a car they desired that ran pure electric.
  11. Wonder if the color strip is changeable so that you can also have different wheel colors? Is it my eye or do those look like solid tires or at least airless.
  12. Just a compliment from Opel to BMW for choosing a nice Headlight design. So why redesign the wheel when it is easier to buy it from the same supplier!
  13. Sergio is going to really F up FCA and leave it a mess before the board finally realized that he needs to go. Fiat will not fill in the lose of 180,000 dart/200 sales. This guy is a moron.
  14. Here are additional sites with Electric Ford Festiva's, amazing they are pretty popular for EV conversion. http://e-volks.com/geo.html http://www.schultzengineering.us/festiva.htm
  15. That aint cool. Its boring. I bet you somewhere on this planet, somebody already has done this... As much as I love LS swaps myself, its at a point where it aint special or unique anymore. LS swaps have been done to death. An electric conversion Suburban would be the shiznit though.... There arent many of those.... Festiva with Zeus juice flowing, now THAT is what I wanna see... Give the Bolt a run for its money. You ask and you shall receive, Zeus Joose Festiva!
  16. In looking at both CT6 Dash and the XT5 Dash, they are both really nice, I have no problem with the black airbag cover on the steering wheel or the what looks as soft touch dimpled black around the nav. Nice contrast. At the same time, I do also like the XT5 dash. I can see some people saying it is too much tan so maybe the black soft touch section will work for people. Will be interesting to compare and contrast them both. CT6 Dash Below. XT5 Dash above.
  17. I will argue with you on the Promasters being the worst vans out there. I think they are some of the best don't cost an arm and leg like the Sprinter. Agree with you, the Sprinters are the worst out there. My brother in-law who runs his own appliance repair business had both dodge labeled versions and then went to MB labeled versions and the amount of stuff that easily broke on them, high cost of maintenance and lack of dependability currently made him dump them and move onto Chevy badged City Express vans. He has reduced costs greatly since dumping the diesel fuel hog Sprinters. I explained to him and my sister how to better use a JIT delivery of parts to the business rather than keep a large inventory on the vans. This allowed them to go down to the smaller vans as service vehicles and they do much better on gas as well as dependability. Sprinter = Failure, high cost, poor quality in my real world experience with them.
  18. Wonder if they will update the lights to use LED rather than the old bulbs, be interesting to see if they do this as a kit car and keep it the same or if they modernize it. A modernized Stainless Steel car like this with the Turbo 4 or 6 or Electric motor should get people interested, but I agree I think it is a limited market for a two door two person sports car.
  19. Naw, too many regulations and limitations compared to lifting a truck or SUV.
  20. Love Lifted Trucks and SUV's. Love the higher seating position that gives a better view of the road.
  21. Agree that is a Sexy Interior Dash. Way better than what MB or BMW has done. Hope they put this in all the auto's. I would expect to see this in the ATS replacement CT3 as well as the CTS replacement CT5, Unless GM wants to go CT2 and CT4 for them.
