  1. G. David Felt Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.CheersandGears.com EV Group Buying, Is it the Right Thing to do from a State / Federal Level? Washington, Colorado, Florida, Tennessee all have instituted Group buying programs of EVs to push the cost of the EV auto down significantly. Per an editorial on Green Car Reports about this very same thing the quote the following: "The Colorado counties of Boulder, Adams, and Denver cut the price of a 2015 Nissan Leaf S for residents by $8,349. Combined with Federal and state incentives, that effectively reduced the price of this model from $29,860 (including destination) to less than $13,000." Dealerships saw sales jump 10 fold in response to the heavy discounts. FCA took a different approach with leasing in Bulk in the state of california the Fiat 500e according to another story. With state and federal discounts, this reduced the monthly lease payment to $82.75 a month for 10,000 miles and only $1000 down. If you own a non FCA auto you get a $1000 credit so ZERO cost to get into a leased 500e compliance auto according to FCA for the state of California. The 500e per FCA is a true compliance auto allowing them to continue to sell in the state till newer auto's with better MPG and no emissions are available. So with these amazing deals, thousands are jumping on the EV bandwagon. The Question that started this off is, should the states and Feds drive incentives to push this change over to EV's? Should group buying become the norm so as to drive the selling of EVs? The west coast is already more electrified than any other place in the nation. Should the taxpayers fund this conversion to EV auto's or should market forces be allowed to drive what people drive? Sounds Off.
  2. I'm talking about the places that are nearly an hour from a WALMART. Like the super rural areas..in mountains and such. I don't see places like that converting to anything very well yet having to buy a vehicle that is electric is crazy to them. I just think it will be a difficult transition period for the 1%(probably most like 0.1%). Then these people also need mechanics but the mechanics are also in the boonies and have never worked on anything 2010 or newer... Valid point, yet at that time, when the other 99.9% of the people are on electric, they will then probably have finally seen an electric auto and are more tolerant and willing to consider. Bigger bang for the buck is getting the bulk of dense city dwellers to move over to electric auto's first.
  3. They are not video screens on the seat back, it is the air intake for Airscarf. I don't think they even offer back seat video screens on any of their 2 door cars. OK, I can appreciate new tech, but having never heard of an Airscarf, what is it supposed to do? Cool the driver / riders neck? I am being honest here, I have no idea what this is or the purpose as in the picture to me and yes I do wear glasses, it looks like a small video screen. Appreciate the explanation.
  4. Wish Tesla would post videos showing their powertrain. I really like this about the BOLT.
  5. Such a shame that Cadillac does not have a full size convertible. The Ocean Drive concept showed the possibility of a full size convertible and Mercedes delivered one. So then while you bash at Cadillac as always for not having one in the early years of rebuilding their image, you say nothing about a cheap ass nose put on the front end of an over priced bland auto! When does MB need to start making a difference between their top of the line and the bottom of the line auto's in terms of looks / style?
  6. Interesting that they just released what I consider an S class competition in 6 door trim as a limo version. http://www.drivespark.com/four-wheelers/2016/audi-unveils-six-door-a8l-extended-limousine-014453.html
  7. Cool, love the car, I have to agree that the rear could use some work but not bad and over all pleasant on the eyes. I wonder for such a high speed auto if they are wanting the wind force on the windshield wipers to enhance cleaning?
  8. The more I think about this and look at the two colored pictures, not sure why but I really like the more masculine Blue version over the Garnet Red. I think this would sell as a weekend cruiser if they made it with a more powerful VOLT or pure EV powertrain. I can see this selling and competing well against Tesla as an EV. Imagine this as liquid cooled electric motor, 420HP, 560 LB-FT torque motivating this along. This AMR Racing motor would be perfect to motivate this along and weigthing only a fraction of a traditional petrol engine.
  9. WOW, talk about a bland looking auto. Nothing to inspire me as a luxury car. MB has NO MOJO in style anymore. Worse yet is the interiors are very questionable. Perfect example is look at that cheap little screen in the headrest on the white auto bove. Not only do these cars NOT have room for adults in the back seat, I doubt kids will be back there watching something on those tiny screens on a sunny day listening to it. Wasted way to just charge money for something I doubt will ever get used but is a check off box for MB.
  10. -1 for Sauv Same old story and same old false facts. Engineering was done for a number of components in Korea, but the actual battery manufacturing is here in the US as is the majority of the BOLT just like Tesla, not every thing is built in the US but the majority. So this is a wash and old news.
  11. What? Are you saying you do not have Tesla's beloved Pet Boys auto centers every 3 to 5 miles? Yes many nerds have put Tesla in the same league as Apple and yet you have to go to Pet Boys for service!, That does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling about their quality when your dealing with a cheap retailer. I would rather trust my chevy dealership over pet boys. How much service is there? Change the brakes (which last longer due to the regen) and change tires. Wiper blades and cabin air filter can be changed yourself. The only maintenance item is changing the coolant on the battery every 4 years. Electric motor has no maintenance, no oil change, no trans fluid change, no filter and belt changes, none of that. Pet boys is like crappy Canadian Tire and you have to ask yourself SMK, would you buy a MB if you had to take it to a place like Pet Boys for service but pay a premium price with no dedicated MB centers? In the US, I have tried Pet Boys and cannot recommend them to anyone. I would take an ASE certified NAPA center over the so called ASE certified Pet Boys. Their service is not luxury level, they can and do give you a tesla loaner but otherwise nothing like a luxury dealership does nor would I suspect worthy of any 100,000 dollar auto.
  12. That freakin Rocks and I love the Jet sound it puts out!

  14. Totally understandable. Lovely auto?HELL YES Sell in quantities that could make serious profits? Nope The days of 2 door coupes are coming to a close as people want 4 doors and the ability to haul family and friends. Once Buick makes massive profits and is even more stable then they can consider doing low volume break even auto's like what this would probably be. LOVE the look in that garnet red metallic.
  15. Nice write up, I do love the interior room, quietness and over all comfort, but I totally agree that the interior is falling behind everyone else even lower chevy auto's that have been refreshed or replaced. Buick needs to get the new version here now.
  16. ^ What is that ugly car? Never seen it before. While the doors are cool the rest of it fails in my eyes for style.
  17. Ouch, that extra 3 inches of rim really costs. I think I got pretty much the same cost as you did.
  18. Wow, what are they asking for that old concept?
  19. ^ Very COOL You could also do a Scout Scarab
  20. Ouch if that college test the MB auto's and comes up with the same results, this could be a big black eye to MB. I have often wondered about the rest of the German auto companies as they all buy from Bosch. Makes one think why would this not happen at the others.
  21. Very Cool update, I can totally understand the frustration but then we do take on these projects of love. All the best to getting to your next item on the list and checking it off. Appreciate the pictures you include as that really helps understand what you are dealing with. Keep on Rockin!
  22. Very cool, I love level playing field testing like this. Cannot wait for the report to be published as I am interested in who had "Strange Irregularities". Now Weird is that Audi and Porsche are not listed as they both have admitted on their diesels to using the same software. So their auto's should be failing the tests.
