  1. Very cool to read Drew. Question you say 3 days to rebuild everything and bring it up. Does that mean the site will be down during this change over or will we still have access?
  2. Interesting, like the name but not a fan of the styling.
  3. Yes and for a far cheaper cost they could have had VOLTS. THis is just more of the same BS Stupidity of the politicians. Here in washington state, the WSP (Washington State Patrol) said they were up against a deadline and so got an exemption from going out for competitive bid and spent millions buying BMW motorcycles for their patrol men who are only on the highways and in a state where most of the time with rain makes no sense to have a motorcycle. As it is, they replaced bikes that were fine and still had years left in service and most of these bikes sat due to weather. This stinks of stupid deal making and no allot of common sense. Just trying to say they are greener. Also, why $387 when you can lease them 3 years here in washington with the same full service for $199. Seems the idiots got taken to the cleaners.
  4. That rocks and is very exciting.
  5. WOW, Guess I just do not get it then as I found the commercial boring, non-inspiring and pretty much Yawned all through it with the bland Jelly Bean cars they have built for the last 30+ years. Porsche peaked in the 60's and have not done anything to get my passion for their auto's going. I do fully agree with you that they started off right with the Dare Greatly and have let it languish like Cadillac and all of GM seems to do as they just do not get Marketing or how to continue the drive to getpeople into the showroom. Course this could also have something to do with the ancient crypt keeper like show rooms GM has here in the US compared to China.
  6. Yes, Lexus uses electric motors connected to the axel. I could not find the info on any US or Japan web site, but the Lexus of UK has a ton of great pictures and a detailed overview on how the Lexus Hybrid system works. http://blog.lexus.co.uk/how-does-lexus-hybrid-drive-work/ Also found this on a dealers web site here. http://mcgrathlexusdealers.com/lexus-hybrid-drive-how-does-it-work/ Pretty interesting to see the images from the UK site on the Lexus hybrid.
  7. This was to be expected. They see what GM and MB are doing there and want a bigger piece of the action, aka $. I know from coworkers who are chinease, they like the names of the old auto's, this goes for Cadillac as well. Since China is the biggest market in the world by population, one would think the companies would follow what the customer wants.
  8. Guess, I just do not get what is so great about the Porsche. Yea they are solid great driving machines, but the overall look is nothing special and the panamera still while looks better than generation 1, looks weird to me.
  9. You must have drank the wrong kool aid as MSFT squashed IBM which sold the OS to MSFT that began the crazy computer revolution. Also in the 90's IBM had to be rescued as the stock was crashing and the current CEO had to be replaced by someone that could mentor and grow people.
  10. Cadillac could have kept a station wagon going if they just had given it more room inside rather than giving it the shape of a station wagon but the room of a 4 door sedan.
  11. End Result is that we are moving at breakneck speed and change is going to come much faster in the next 5 years than they did in the last 10 years. Expect the unexpected and that would say that what seemed normal for 1970 to 2000 will be consolidated to half that time as we move forward with the EV world I believe. Times are a changing whether you like it or not.
  12. WOW, BMW has Learned NOTHING from the Stupid 70's, 80's and 90's of GM, FORD and Chrsyler. Self destructing by thinking they have to grow each model in size. WRONG!!!!!!!! Nothing wrong with keeping the 3 series the same size it was, after all they already have the 4, 5,6,7,& 8 series. So what the current 8 will grow and become the 9 series and eventually the 10? Where did this stupidity that they have to grow a specific model name from subcompact to compact to mid size to large to Extra Large BS come from? What STUPID Executives they have. This seems to be an even bigger Monkey See, Monkey Do failure of the german auto companies. Kinda along the same stupid ideas of exchanging VW for Skoda. So they going to pay all their VW dealers to remodel to be SKODA dealers and just use a different badge on the auto? The utter ignorance of stupid germans is amazing.
  13. End story, The Euro market needs to REDUCE, not Grow the number of brands they have. There is still too many auto makers in this global market. I expect some to go away.
  14. Station wagon it is, bland exterior design, agree with Sauv on the squashed pasted on butt from the GLC. Over all not an inspiration to own. Love the big interior that is always found on station wagons. What the hell is the lines for in what looks like plastic but I guess will be stated as wood trim on the dash and doors. I also agree with the plastic on the center stack. In today's market, they need to do much better than equal to the competition. This will sell to the MB badge faithful but to me is just been there before with a dated look of inside and outside. Nothing exciting and new.
  15. I would agree with this CEO, Europe and select other markets are very Diesel heavy and will need time to change over to EVs, PHEVs, etc. I do believe the over all various hybrid systems will cause the overall cost to go down and with it people will change from Diesel to hybrids. Let the markets decide while producing all 3 in those markets. For other places where Diesel has not taken hold that strongly such as America, I say time to just move forward and let the Hybrids do their job. I doubt Mazda needs to waste money on a diesel engine now for America.
  16. Hyper, I think the degradation issue with batteries is almost over, both Tesla and GM/LG has stated that even with fast charging, it will not reduce the expected life of the battery and they still will continue to warranty it for 100,000 miles. Even Nissan is now on record as saying that their new battery pack that will give the leaf a 200+ mile range for generation 2 expected to be unveiled next year and in production by end of 2017 or so the media speculates will not be affected by fast charging. I believe the battery packs are probably built with additional cell capacity to take into account the DC fast charges that give you 80% charge fast.
  17. Great review and feedback. I am way to big to fit into the Volt and was hoping GM would put this powertrain into a CUV. Glad to hear it is that silky smooth and enjoyable. GM ARE YOU LISTENING? Put this in a CUV now and you will have a Winner Winner Chicken Dinner all the way to the bank.
  18. Drew, that is freakin beautiful. Love to see old gems like this. Glad I do not have to polish the chrome though.
  19. While I agree with the first statement above, unless manufacturers POINTEDLY install OBVIOUS obsolescence tech, the fact that the vehicle is powered electrically should not incite mass 'this is outdated, gotta get a new one' mentality in the market. Phones incorporate a LOT of fleeting tech & apps which yes, are subject to superficial judgement, but these types of features in vehicles are pretty much independent of the power plant propelling such. Phonesa re also a HELLUVA lot more affordable than cars- most people don't shoulder a loan to own one. Even subsequent generations of EVs that have improved range still should not see mass incentive to upgrade… this is in the same vein as IC vehicles' MPG improvement in subsequent gens. It's not usually enough to cause a trade- the costs are too steep for most consumers. I think what you miss is that EV is only at the start of the learning and investment curve where IC is at the end. With a EV we could be just months with major improvments with technology investments or we could be years it all matters on how it progresses and that remains the great unknown. . Based on other electronics I suspect that will see much greater changes in the EV auto than we have seen year to year in a IC car. Also electronic today fail after so long with age. or they just get old and incompatible. Unrelated and those supposed "hurdles" are no reason to stop pursuing the current EV path. IC, like the horse and buggy, will be a passing thought eventually. Not for a long time still but it will happen. That's the nature of technology and progress. Great point, like the horse and buggy that is still used today, the 1940's was a turning point for many in going to the car and yet not until after WWII did the car become de facto standard. Bigger question is will it take 50 years to go from hose n buggy to petro auto for ev auto to replace petro auto as the common auto? Me think about half that time if not less. 10-20 years at most.
  20. Suav, wireless inductive charging is being used here by home owners mostly as it is very new but it is here and a few businesses have it so you can recharge in the work place garage. Yest here on the east cost we pee faster than 30 min to make it to Florida in 16 hours. It is a choice of life style and what you value. Nothing wrong with either but like I state one system at this point is not a one thing fits all. Sorry I do have to go and work on the race car. Damn thing is expensive and runs on neither gas or electric. When we got into soap box derby I thought it was like 500 and all is good. Well just coasting can put a car over $1500 or more depending on your paint. LOL! I need to get some photo's posted as we did a bitchin So Cal Belly Tank theme. We have a big race next week and I have to decide what balance we need to run. It is a real crap shoot since this is a new car. I will try to check in later. My surface plate is in front of the garage and I have to get it on the scales before it rains again. Very cool, would love to see photo's and hear more about how it performs. Keep us updated and good luck with the upcoming race.
  21. Hyper I understand your points and they are valid, I also understand that unlike midwest or east coast, the west coast has embraced this far more and you do find plenty of charge points along the streets in the cities and at work places so you can recharge easily while you are at home or work or out and about. Lucky for us, the DC fast charge is very common here so even on road trips along the west coast electric highway, you have at the rest stops these DC fast chargers that give you 80% in less than 30 min. So taking a bathroom brake, walk to exercise from sitting, etc and still being able to charge up your auto is very common here now.
  22. The more I think about this, the more excited I have gotten to the point I have reached out to Protean Electric to get more details as I can see my Suburban being converted to this and having a monstrous space between the 4 wheels for a large Lio battery pack that would give me a very large range I suspect. Imagen converting your auto to become AWD from 2WD. Having a 4-500 mile range and being silent.
