  1. Very cool, thanks for the links, looks like VW is going to be shocked that they will have to deal with Europe no different than the US. I wonder how long before Audi and Porsche either go their own way or leave VW and the two strike out on their own as a new audi / Porsche company.
  2. SMK, you jump to saying MB is the best approach to building an EV and yet you clearly DID NOT read the full story. BMW will have a new platform for this updated 3 series that will cover gas, diesel, plug-in and EVs. This new platform will take a page from their I series with using carbon fiber to reduce weight and improve structural rigidity. I did read the whole story. Why does an EV 3 series need a body and that accommodates an inline six engine and 8 speed transmission? The anchor points and front end bracing is a lot for a diesel engine. If you had a chassis designed for an EV, like Tesla does, you get more interior room, better weight distribution, etc. And you just shot yourself in the foot SMK, cause MB is doing just what BMW is doing and yet now your saying this is no good, so then you are admitting that the MB all in one new platform for Petrol, Diesel, Hybrid Plug-in and EV is wrong, MB needs two platforms like what BMW tried to do with the i platform before realizing they could tweak the carbon fiber system to support all formats. Ans how is this wrong again?
  3. Clearly they are German lovers extreme like SMK as the whole write up is very negative and they compare the XT5 to auto's that it does not really compete with. Also comparing the top of the line auto to mid level auto's also just reaks of a writer who is lazy and again biased to an extreme for the german brands. Many of their nit picking was laughable and what I consider to be inconsistent. Even people on their own forum disagree with the writer and his review. Having driven an XT5, I have to actually disagree with many of the writers complaints. I do have to wonder what condition this XT5 was delivered in if it was having slow shift issues and non responsive controls as I never experienced that. Funny that Car and Driver has blasted about the complexity of going through the menu system on the Germans and how hard it is and going one step on the Cadillac system they said it would be better for a basic knob on the dash. How Toyota can you get to default to a knob on the dash to replace the electronic system when the germans have what is known to be one of the most confusing interfaces around. Clearly a very biased review and lack neutral comparison to like products. Most of the writing is also personal taste in what was pointed out and there was never given any examples of real value about the vaunted German brands. I wish more often than it really happens that the writers would remember to be neutral about the auto's, give facts of clear comparison and what it was to lead them to the feeling one thing was lower quality than another. An example would be the writer's comment about lower door interior panels seem to be part bin material harder plastic and never really states what the germans are, but having been in the GLC and the X3, I can tell you they use a hard plastic so why do they get a pass but not GM for the area that usually gets hit by dirty feet. O'h that is right they are superior cause they are german.
  4. While I love the camero and specifically the history plus I know the current auto's are damn good, I would pass on owning one due to the high beltline and clear blind spots in the rear. I would rather deal with the poor MPG but far higher seating position in an suv / cuv.
  5. VW dealers here in washington have reduced staff due to the lack of sales. There is one tiny dealership that I wonder if it can survive past this year as they have few auto's on their lot and you never see anyone there and they are located in what is considered Green Central for people. As long as they were marketing and selling their super Green Diesels, the place was busy, but now the perception is one of a lying two faced car company and the place is now closed on sundays and mondays and open 9-5 tuesday to saturday. I personally think it will be gone by the end of the year.
  6. Like everything else, who did not see this coming. Using their Carbon Fiber core of the i Series to reduce the bloated weight of their piggy cars will gain them some stiff driving dynamics with much better MPG. I would be willing to say that if they kept everything the same in the current auto, but went to using carbon fiber, high strength steel and aluminum they could see a nice bump in the MPG and make people happy with a far better responsive auto.
  7. Agreed, if they use the full carbon fiber enclosure on the new 3 series, it should allow them to drop considerable weight and stiffen it up properly for a solid drivers experience. Makes one wonder how long before others decide to finally go with core Carbon Fiber for their unibody auto? GM could sure use this to continue their lead in dropping weight. Imagen what this would do if they used it on their trucks.
  8. SMK, you jump to saying MB is the best approach to building an EV and yet you clearly DID NOT read the full story. 9. This should be interesting. BIG QUESTION Are these stand alone Cadillac dealerships or are they selling them out of an Opel store in the back alley? Biggest failure of the US companies is trying to sell the way they do in the US in Europe. Does not work. Gotta sell focused on the single brand for best results.
  10. Bummer, but that web site does not come up for me, but found what I think might be the same story here: http://www.autonews.com/article/20160713/OEM01/160719925/gm-averts-n.a.-shutdown-gains-access-to-tooling-parts-at-bankrupt Also Detroit Freepress covered it too http://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/general-motors/2016/07/13/gm-shutdown-averted-settles-mass-supplier/87046848/
  11. Yup, VW still struggling in the deep end and this will end up costing them another 15-20 billion. OUCH.
  12. Makes sense, I just hope cadillac also is planning for EV auto's. Hate it when they always play catch up rather than lead. Yes low volume at first but will grow and can lead the way with proper tech. Cadillac should have an EV in each product line.
  13. Do they have the same leadership group(s)? Do those other companies have the same leadership groups prior to and post bankruptcy? Many companies who do what GM did, do have the same board, executives as they dump their debt and rebuild. Trump did this 5 major times on destorying other companies just for his own personal wealth building. So people should be able to go after his money then. Just like they are allowing here now.
  14. I take this SUV over a van any day. Better handling and more versatile to me than a van.
  15. This is what should be done to the stupid judges. If others can dodge the bullet with a bankruptcy, then GM should be able to also. Are they going to go back and allow all the other companies who have declared Bankruptcy to have to deal with their mistakes of the past? I think GM needs to appeal this as this just reeks of stupid idiot liberal extreme and he probably drives a non american brand and loves consumer reports crap. If this is allowed to stand then I should be able to sue for money Apple who built and sold me my elisa and then dropped support less than 6 months later and came out with the stupid mac crap. I was stuck with a boat anchor with no support or software use all due to the idiot jobs. So where is my money then?
  16. Nope, Dead on Arrival!, Kill off the Diesel auto's, focus on Hybrid and the use of alternative fuels that are cleaner. I would focus on Petro, Hybrid plug-in and pure EV. Hydrogen just does not make sense as it take way more energy to produce the fuel. Clarification on the Diesel, if you already have it and it can pass the upcoming emissions then keep it going till you have to truly invest major dollars, otherwise drop it. Reality is a 10-15 year death for diesel as Europe adopts strict emissions and more and more places stop selling it and supporting it, this will give it time to wind down. If you have to do it new like what I get out of this story, then it makes no sense to build it.
  17. University of Waterloo in Canada working with BASF have found a way to stabilize Lithium Sulfur batteries. These batteries are known to carry 75% denser energy storage in a traditional LiS cell compared to a LiO cell. This would reduce greatly the size of a battery pack needed. Example is the current LiO battery pack in the upcoming Bolt is 225 mile range based on current info. If you can add 75% more range to this battery pack you have a 393.75 mile range on the battery pack and I think most would agree that it would be more than enough for most uses even day time road trips. Just think if this Chevy Spark battery pack which is 85 mile range had a 75% increase in power density with no change in size, that becomes a 148.75 mile battery pack which is still way better than the current version. https://chargedevs.com/newswire/researchers-announce-significant-improvement-in-li-s-battery-performance-and-cycle-life/ Interesting points of acknowledgement in the links is: "The lithium–sulfur battery is receiving intense interest because its theoretical energy density exceeds that of lithium-ion batteries at much lower cost,"
  18. Marilyn was over rated in my book, but my dad loved her. I did like Catherine as she was hot in her daisy dukes. Way more hot woman than I can remember from the 70's and 80's.
  19. Very cool, Yes swinging hardware can be just as solid a workout as the gym. Way to go Drew.
  20. This makes total sense and with some places being destroyed by acid rain from all the diesel and other polluting auto's and companies, it would make sense to have your ubber luxury ride be pure EV.
  21. Intersting, should garner more than a few sales initially. I like the more subdued look and subtle sporty body kit. I am underwhelmed by the pathetic motor.
  22. Very cool, look forward to seeing the pictures at home since work blocks them.
