  1. Interesting, just learned that Skoda was no longer a partner but owned by VW. The history of ŠKODA - Over 100 years of getting people from A to Bhttp://www.skoda.co.uk/skoda-history A 120 Years of ŠKODAhttp://www.skoda.com.au/about-skoda/skoda-history Another good web site covering who owns whom. http://www.tysto.com/articles08/q3/20080720cars.shtml Have to agree with Olds, I hope if Skoda comes to the US, they leave the VW arrogance home.
  2. Wish them all the best in moving to have a luxury line and what customers will come to expect. I have a relative who has a Genesis and loves it and brags about how much better it is than anything the germans or americans build and yet when I told him to expect this to be the start of a luxury line that will be separate from the traditional Hyundai family and expect other models and the price to go up as they move to be a true competitor to those german and american luxury brands in addition to the asian ones he said why? Why do that it is a great Hyundai and does not need to become it's only family line of product or cost more. I think people who are used to Hyundai and their cheaper prices will be lost to the whole notion of a luxury line with better quality materials, service and ride. Hate to say it, but once a value buyer, almost always a value buyer. My relative has money but is a true cheap skate.
  3. Well yes customers like Jeep how they are, I am saying keep the look of Jeep, but Jeep is often a bottom 5 brand in reliability and isn't really know for fit and finish or gas mileage. Imagine how much better a Jeep would be with a Honda 3.5 V6 that never breaks and is buttery smooth. So SMK you just described your beloved G-Wagon. Remember, Drew posted pictures of the mismatch of screws, piss poor fit n finish. Jeep faithful love the ease of working on the Jeep on the trail not if but when something fails. That is hard to do with a limited production g-wagon which I doubt would ever be on the Rubicon or any other off road trail. I agree with you about the need for better reliability, but this is a perfect example of watch throwing a stone in a glass house as you can easily apply your statement to many MB products.
  4. Regardless of Mustang or Camaro, we all should be freaking happy with the performance war that has delivered such amazing beasts. The next war will not be based on petro engines, but on pure electric. I am calling it here now and that we will see the next pony war to expand to include pony type auto;s from the asian rim and it will be pure EV baby. Everyone will want to have Insane Mode on their Electric AWD Pony car!
  5. HELLO McFLY! Would it just not be easier to just buy back all the cars, crush them or ship them off to 3rd world markets and dump them there? Why waste trying to engineer a fix and just remove the offending auto's. Move forward and minimize costs.
  6. The US market no matter how you look at it is a big investment and one that not every company can easily do. The need for dealerships, warranty, marketing, etc. is huge. Wish them all the best if they choose to try. They best come with the attitude of Do or Do Not, there is no try!
  7. You could make a business case now for the 150 GWH batteries. Just sell an Escalade Electrified. Independant suspension at each wheel and the undercarriage is one large battery pack. Each wheel make it an in rim motor and you have AWD on a large sled battery pack. Hell even if you copy Tesla with a motor in the middle of each axle and the large battery between front and rear wheels, you can have an awesome full size AWD SUV. I think Cadillac needs an Escalade EV now leading the way for luxury full size SUV's pure electric. They could easily sell this as a $100,000 SUV.
  8. I tried one of these once and I still have the bump to prove it. My 280 6'6" shreck frame does not make for these trip supported door way opening bars to work.
  9. End result, we want American auto companies to be profitable and survive. Last thing we need is for this segment to have all auto companies go to china. This is one thing I do love about Tesla.
  10. Great write up, you came to the same conclusion I did in regards to both of these auto's. I could not recommend either one to anyone, friend or enemy.
  11. Good Capture, so he finally says this is final and it still looks the same as what everyone test drove. H'mmmmmmmmmm That picture was only of the first Model 3. It didn't say that the pictured car was the finalized one, just that it is finally finalized. At least that is how I read it. Good Point, my reading of it came across differently, but I see the point your also making. Be interesting to see what he calls the final and what the spec is. I also wonder about the impact the 225 mile BOLT will have on this 215 mile Tesla 3 or the 200+ mile Leaf II out spring 2017 or the 115 mile Ioniq from hyundai. We do live in exciting times.
  12. Good Capture, so he finally says this is final and it still looks the same as what everyone test drove. H'mmmmmmmmmm
  13. Powerball, I did not win. Guess I have to keep on working.
  14. Musk is getting what he wants in the form of plenty of press. More stories about the Gigafactory launch. http://www.sfgate.com/business/article/Tesla-slams-the-accelerator-on-Gigafactory-8425753.php http://www.nbcnews.com/tech/innovation/tesla-opens-gigafactory-expand-battery-production-sales-n617676 http://www.fool.com/investing/2016/07/27/tesla-gigafactory-unveiled-an-inside-look.aspx http://money.cnn.com/2016/07/26/technology/tesla-gigafactory/index.html http://fortune.com/2016/07/26/live-blog-tesla-gigafactory/
  15. But SMK says you have to have TTV8 to play in the luxury segment. You have to copy what the Germans do to be a true player. Without having the same engines as the Germans, you are not a true player.
  16. The falsehood in his statement of profitability by building out of the US is that all other auto companies are able to produce and break even or make a profit on building cars in the US. He is an idiot and incapable of really building an auto company. MORON with a capital M!
  17. Tesla has updated their own webpage about the Gigafactory with a video and pictures. https://www.tesla.com/gigafactory https://player.vimeo.com/video/108958187 Slides that were shown yesterday about the Gigafactory and Tesla long term plans. Official Photo of the Entrance to the Giga Factory Aerial view of the current factory Slides shown to those at the Gigafactory launch. Here are a picture of the Invite and additional slide.
  18. Fuso and MB both say they can charge at 220 or 440 DC Quick charge. So I would think you are looking at about 30 min on the quick charger. Also if MB is planning to have the trucks on the road starting in 2020, that gives them plenty of time to update the battery pack as we seem to be increasing density rather quickly now.
  19. I can see High Tech Companies doing this to entice their developers to get off their ass and move around.
  20. Have you been in the new XD? There was one at the STL auto show back in January(or February..) and I was surprised how nice it was inside. Granted I didn't have similarly priced/equipped D3 trucks to compare it to at the same exact time but I thought the interior kind of rocked. If only they could work on the proportions a little better... I just think the XD needed to up it's payload and towing capacity just a little more to really stand apart from the half-tons and become a very good value. Even if the towing just tipped the 13,000lb mark just to say it does. I think that would widen the gap a little better and just looking at a Silverado and F150 can tow 12,xxxlbs and this can tow 12,xxxlbs just looks too similar to not go the F150/Silverado route unless you tow on a regular basis in which I have to believe the larger, heavier truck will just be better suited for "work". Nope never been in one, only making my personal opinion based on the pictures and I still am not impressed. Glad to hear they are better in person, but from these pictures, I would not bother looking at one. This drives home the importance of putting on that first impression as pictures speak a thousand words and then some. I wouldn't consider one just because they don't seem to do anything more than the GM/Ford half tons which have a billion and one configurations available and one of those that I think I would want is the middle cab side. The only thing that really grabs my attention is the 5.0 Cummins. But that's about it. Yeah after looking at those pictures it doesn't do much for me. This is what I sat in basically... Scroll down to the interior pics.. the brown looks great imo. http://www.trucktrend.com/news/1505-2016-nissan-titan-xd/ I will agree that the two tone brown interior does look better, but does not WOW me into wanting to go drive one or buy one.
  21. I suspect only a few auto makers will still be making V8 or V10 or V12 engines in the next 4 years. Everyone else will either buy their engine from these big bad boys or go to small turbo / variable supercharged engines or EV / Hybrids. The world be changing,
  22. Yes, I have the onboard Intel HD Graphics 4000 and the add-on NVidia Quadro K1000M. I love this dual video card setup and the ability to drive multiple monitors. Here is what my setup looks like. I have a 24", 27", 30" and my laptop open to use the built in screen.
