You can believe whatever you want and that is fine. The fact is to me the Lincoln product line is a Buick, Acura Competitor EXCEPT for the Continental where they have truly went way beyond their existing family. Continental is to Lincoln what the CTS was to Cadillac when they finally decided to compete again.

Interesting and so true, I think MB and BMW will be looked at as just another Chevy, Ford or Toyota in the next 5-10 years. They have screwed up their profit center in the attempt to sell everyone at every price point and forgot that they were an uber luxury line of auto's.
-
My gut tells me that most people moving forward will not really care about FWD / RWD. The biggest point will be AWD or not, can I get to the mountain to ski / snowboard. Otherwise, make it fuel efficient or Electric and do not bother me with the details. If the auto is on the same platform but look totally different, no one will care anymore for 97% of the buyers. The focus is to make sure the interior of the one brand auto looks nothing like it's sister division. Buick is doing this well, many others are also. So if Lincoln wants to play in the Luxury division, Great, just make sure the outside is Lincoln and the interior is Lincoln. Do not use Ford Plastic circle vents or other stuff that clearly says FORD. Buyers want a Lincoln to be a Lincoln, not a re-badge Ford. This goes for any auto company.

For me, I have always loved the Monte Carlo SS Area. Other than being underpowered, the design and color is just awesome.

Mini News: MINI Countryman Coupe Under Consideration
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in MINI
This just makes me think Mini has lost their focus on how to be Mini. This is not a car, coupe, other auto styles other than Mini IMHO.- 5 replies

G. David Felt Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.CheersandGears.com Tesla / Solarcity merger, Brilliant or Disaster? Tesla announced their intent to buy SolarCity and some screamed the sky is falling. Tesla moves forward with offering a complete home solution of Solar panels, battery bank and 220V charging for your Tesla and believes they have the future tied up in a single one stop shopping solution that beats all the other Auto OEMS. The merger final vote by Solarcity shareholders is scheduled for Nov 17th 2016. Yet with this deal not done yet, there are many that have divided into two camps, those that think this is brilliant such as reported by Barron's yesterday that ISS one of the largest outside analyst groups that advises shareholders on mergers gave it's blessing to what they believe is an outstanding tie up of two companies that can maximize return on investments. Barron's believes that Tesla has addressed all the concerns that allow for a successful merger of the two companies and a maximizing of complementary products. Barron's Story One CNBC story feels that this merger might even be a little late. They agree that Solarcity will provide about $1 Billion next year in revenue to the new merged company and add about $500 million in cash to the Tesla corporation over the next 3 years. CNBC Story Then you have the latest story also from CNBC where a different analyst believes this is nothing but one large mistake and that is due to what he sees as an impossible return on the investment. Yet even with that he also points out to strong supporters such as Ron Baron who ownes 1.5 million shares that see a 30 to 50 times return on the stock due to the merger. CNBC Story 2 Yet with all this, “Playing Amish Paradise in my Tesla,” Musk shared with his 5.8 million Twitter followers on Sunday we have the man himself seeing a much simpler life for us all in the new EV world. So what is your thoughts on this whole merger and the new EV world Musk sees for us all?

G. David Felt Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.CheersandGears.com Tesla Ends Free Charging Jan 1st 2017 Tesla has announced the end of their free supercharging for all new auto's starting January 1st 2017. CNBC has reported that Tesla has informed them that all auto's sold starting Jan 1st 2017 will only come with a free yearly use of 400KWh or equal to about 1000 miles of driving. After this users of their Supercharging stations will have to pay local electrical rate fee's up to a certain point. This is to allow Tesla to grow their north american network from the current 734 stations with 4600 superchargers. Their superchargers charge a 170 mile range in 30 min. Tesla also has stated that the cost to charge can and will fluctuate over time depending on the time of year and regional area due to the costs of electricity in that area. With Tesla planning to product annually 500,000 cars a year starting in 2018, many think this is necessary to grow. Others feel differently and further yet some wonder if they sell their existing Tesla S, does the life time of free charging transfer with the car to the new owner? This in itself could enhance resale of older tesla's built before January 1st 2017. Tesla has stated that more defined details will be released by the end of 2016. At this time, if you want lifetime free charging, buy your Tesla S or X now and take delivery by April 17th 2017. CNBC story

Placement by marketing is for it to compete against the luxury crowd, yet most people only see Lincoln as a mid level line. So having an $80,000 car is really pushing it. I see these getting sold into the private car service for sure. There will be the baby boomers who want to have the Lazy Boy full size sedan, but at that price? Not sure, I will be watching this closely as right now Lincoln is a mid market product line competing with Acura, Buick, Infinity, etc. That is how I see it IMHO.

If memory serves me correct, was the Dodge, Challenger and 300 not old MB platforms? I would say they have milked these to a whole new level of wringing out every drop.

This just confirms the waste of Billions on bringing back the stupid Italian brands that were already dead rather than investing in the proper labels in the US. No one can prove that the billions wasted on Alfa was worth steeling all the profits from the US labels. This also makes me even more solid about the Killing Chrysler label. Dodge will continue on, kill off the 200, 300 and move the Pacifica to Dodge and Chrysler is dead. I bet FCA in 2020 will announce the death of the 300, the movement of the Pacifica to Dodge and the delay to milk out everything under Jeep and Ram so they can continue to rap the profits to sink into the death traps from Fiat and Alfa. Garbage auto's with checkered history. Should have left them in the history books.

If I were AMG, I would go with Dual Electric motors and a Small solid generator to give it a long range. This engine would kick ass in a properly tuned AMG. AM Racing Engine 560 Lb Ft Torque 420 Hp That would give you 1,120 Lb Ft Torque with 840HP in an AWD Hybrid with generator to give a decent long distance drive.

Ouch, this just increased the Billions they will have to pay and the amount of auto's that will be recalled. Buick Envision, you are looking really nice right now as a replacement for a TDI.

Chrysler News: Chrysler 200 Was A Worse Seller Than First Expected
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Chrysler
Check out the Buick Envision. I love that compact CUV. My sister is 6' tall and with her in the drivers seat, all 6'6" of me can sit behind here totally comfy with plenty of room between my knees and the back of the seat. This CUV even in FWD only config is just awesome. So quiet and comfy. I cannot say enough good things about it.- 39 replies

@Suaviloquent My Friend, BREATH, Yes BREATH, Climate change is real, yes we need to change how we do things, but we do not have to go all radical in just a year or two. 10-20 or 30 years can work too. BREATH, Just BREATH, It will be all ok. Hands off my meat, I mean it!

Cool tech, as the panels get better and better, you end up having longer drive range, better for self charging and just so many more things this can benefit.

Got it, sorry, did not realize that about that purple disk. Will know for the future. Weird the posting thing though, glad to help find the bugs.

In this while it is personal choice, I have to again disagree with you as you are looking at it from too much of an American only attitude. Volvo is moving production to China since they are owned by Chinese. The Chinese, 1/5th of the worlds population reads top to bottom, left to right, much the same way Japan, Korea and so many other asian countries read their language. This is also why when you look at the asian rim you find so many cell phones much larger than the small phones you find in the US. Their characters and approach to reading is very much vertical. I think Volvo did a smart thing, they are going after a much larger market and giving the end users what they want. With large screens taking off worldwide, much of your 40 and younger crowd look at things in a portrait mode not a landscape mode which is very baby boomerish. The only exception to this is movies that everyone watches in the 16x9 format. Again what Lincoln has done here is nice, but they were too conservative and I think bailed on pushing the edge for redefining luxury sedans. By the way wings, I do agree with you that the S class implementation of the dual large landscape screens comes across very much buickish in nature which is surprising that they would fashion after a mid level luxury auto, but power to them if they sell well.
-
I agree to disagree. A screen that can be found in the Ford Escape, Explorer, etc. is not luxury to me. I expect luxury especially when you are in the upper end of 5 figures and especially hitting 6 figures to be much better than this. I work everyday as a computer engineer on multiple screens and they are not that bright in auto's, yet I do understand that for some that are not used to it, then they can be. In all this is what I work on daily! Otherwise, I like this boat of a car and do think it will do well for them. Much better than what Lincoln has had in the past.
-
Your MB has one long large screen Volvo V90 had dual large screens Tesla of course has dual large screens So why not have large easy to read screens. I do not find them bright or a distraction like others but I do think it gives you a better way to customize the info you want to see and still access basic auto functions / features.
-
Hey has anyone else seen this, in the report bill just posted about the update on the V6 TDI, it says 71 post, and my response is on page 3 but nothing else shows. I clicked on page 1 as my screen capture shows but nothing shows up. Very weird this upgrade is.
-
For those they do not buy back, they better plan on not only fixing them but also paying the owners a large sum to hold onto them. The value is already in the Crapper.

True, not everyone can be pleased, but for those in the high tech crowd, screen size is important and considered luxury. Tesla has set this trend and auto's with screens that are smaller than 10" really are considered dated. I listen to the peeps around me here in seattle and they bash the heck out of auto's with small screens all the time.
