  1. I agree with what Hyper has said but also in reading the Bloomberg report and other repoirts including news releases from GM such as the plant that the BOLT is being assebled at has a capacity of 90,000 auto's for a single 6 day a week shift. They have already gone to 6 days since demand by dealers for the Bolt is stronger than expected. They will ship the BOLT / Ampe E to Europe from the US. If demand pics up to be more than the estimated 7698 units to break even with the carb board and to satisfy the emissions requirement, this could turn into a money maker for GM. I actually expect them to sell about 30,000 units in 2017 and even that I think is conservative. Course the story also does state that GM could also sell 10,082 Volts to get the emission credits so I think either way, GM is in a good spot. Like Hyper states, this is an investment in the future direction that auto's are going.
  2. First snow of the winter finally hitting Seattle!
  3. That was very cool, traditional old school tool making. Not the most efficient form of mass produced product, but quality that is hard to touch when done by a master worker. Talk about the muscles the guys have to have in their arms. Love it, thanks for posting.
  4. I totally agree with the Miles Per Kilowatt. I think that would be a much better standard. I fear that because most buyers have a hard time changing their thinking from Miles Per Gallon to Miles Per Kilowatt since they want an equivalent comparison. EPA should have everything stated MPK on all EV systems and in the fine print say a MPK is equal to MPG formula. Let the consumer have the facts but this way it would then be able to phase out the comparison once we really make the switch over to EV everything.
  5. @Wings4Life What we have is reliable, not necessarily the best. Best is always products that push the envelope to the bleeding edge even when it breaks. Computer industry has taught us that the best is always yet to come and we have reliable, bleeding edge best next version and the best to come. I agree that you and many others will help bring the future and we need to always embrace it.
  6. Interesting read, Missing many critical pieces. I have to agree with BigPoolOG that the fund manager is a dollar short day late to the party of making money on the stock, so now trying to make bad news to depress the stock to a point he is comfortable buying in. Like Mr B has stated, this is a make or break model for Tesla. They should have Version 2.0 of the Tesla S out now and already be well underway with engineering Tesla 3. Sadly over promised, under deliver is what I believe will happen here. Having spent considerable time in the BOLT now, Tesla is going to have a hard time. The BOLT is super quiet, solid as a rock and going to really surprise many people once they get a chance to check it out and drive it. Many Leaf owners are wanting to trade in their lease leaf on the bolt now. I suspect GM and Chevy dealers will sell every one they get at or near MSRP for the first 6-12 months. I think GM will actually go from selling at a loss to a profit with the BOLT much faster than they did with the VOLT. EXCITING TIMES WE LIVE IN!
  7. WOW, I missed this change in production and the zero effect it has on green house gases. Some very cool reading here: http://www.energy.gov/eere/fuelcells/hydrogen-production-photobiological http://www.nrel.gov/hydrogen/proj_production_delivery.html Ton's more of interesting reading. The last couple years the research has really changed the way things are looked at. I can now seen even bigger changes and this Nikola One Semi is a perfect fit for the future of trucking just like EV auto's will be a logical step for us also.
  8. I understand as I would think CNG or LNG, but I do also understand why they went this way for a true zero emission truck. Interesting is that Ryder locations North America Wide are to have the Hydrogen fueling systems in place by 2020. Be interesting to see. As they say, money talks, bullshit walks, they have 3 billion in sales logged so far with down payments. So I really hope they do deliver on time Jan 2020. It will be very exciting.
  9. I just checked and WOW, 11 years myself. Crazy. does not feel that long.
  10. At least it looks like they have real prototypes that work so I wonder just how fast they can get production up and going to start delivering.
  11. My coworkers in Ireland, Scottland and UK all say that many people are having regrets about leaving the EU and that they could just drag their feet and not go through. Be interesting. I know many companies are looking to leave if they do follow through due to multiple reasons. Idiots for doing it.
  12. Yea, I know we can only get multiple 220's, but it does make one wonder if they will not change the code as EV's become more common. Plus I wonder if you could get a separate outside commercial install done to have the biggest 440 available at your house separate from the house electrical.
  13. Nice thing is as the EV charging grows, price like anything will come down. I can see local utilities installing 440 fast chargers in homes rather than a 220. Charging at home just makes sense.
  14. What a joke, agree with Drew. DUD, Dead on Arrival.
  15. Bloomberg posted this story yesterday. I have not had time to research it more than just reading what they say, but GM is expected to absorb about $9,000 per bolt sale loss. But they do also admit there is a break even point where the BOLT if it takes off can become profitable rather quickly. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-11-30/gm-s-ready-to-lose-9-000-a-pop-and-chase-the-electric-car-boom Interesting is that this story covers that 9 states have adopted CA zero emission mandate and to do business in those states that make up 30% of the car market you will have to have EV's. Chevy's is even quoted with this: according to Tim Mahoney, Chevy’s chief marketing officer. For one thing, it lures younger, technologically savvy buyers who probably wouldn’t have considered Chevrolet, he said. “It’s a statement about what we can do for the Chevy brand.” Interesting is that GM can totally cover the loss and make a profit if they sell only 7,698 Bolts as that would give them the clean air credits and GM was the least among all auto companies in 2015 in having to buy credits. As stated, the US is 1/5th of the global car market so all auto companies cannot afford to ignore the EV movement. Another interesting read in regards to what CA is doing in regards to President elect Trump. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-11-30/california-s-clean-car-resistance-to-donald-trump-quicktake-q-a End result is that this brings us right back to what this thread started. The need for faster and better recharge network. I can easily see gas stations changing one section of pumps to chargers and the other left as pumps during this change over. I do wonder how fast this will take compared to the early 1900's with petro.
  16. Good valid point, I have not seen how this new rapid charging network is to be funded yet. I would expect some funding to come from the auto companies and other funding from country, state, city funding I guess. Gonna be interesting to see what all happens. I honestly think people who drive a bolt love them and once more people can test drive a bolt, buy one and enjoy the minimal maintenance, I would expect more and more people to demand faster recharging and longer ranges. I am excited by the anouncement by Nikola that they will have a 107kWh battery pack for sale and use by OEMs and ev conversion groups. This will give a big long range to EV's.
  17. agree, as long as people are productive and earning an income that supports themselves and pays the bills, if they choose to live with parents because they have longer plans, more power to them. My daughter is also saving for her own house while living with us.
  18. I have mixed feelings about this as my son once he finished college moved out and never looked back. Successful Graphic designer and loves his life, productive and works fine. My daughter also successful as a Benefits HR employee at Tommy Bahama but still lives at home. Has a great relationship with her mom and me and over all productive and successful as she pays her own way. We have have many discussions and she does not see the need to move out. She pays her own way, loves hanging out with us when she does not work out or hang with her friends. I think it really depends on the example set by the parents. You can have kids at home or out that are very successful or you can have kids that suck you dry and cause nothing but problems for you. Really depends on how you raise them.
  19. So now that we are bought out by DELL, all our new hardware is of course DELL and I have to say, I love the Dell u3415w monitors. http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/accessories/apd/210-adtr?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=210-ADTR We get dual display for our work and so this is really cool. Cannot wait till I get to replace my lenovo laptop and monitors with a new XPS workstation laptop and dual screens. Each monitor does 3440 x 1440 with 1.07 billion colors. Sweet
  20. VERY RARE! I have yet to see one in the greater Seattle area. Even on my trips lately to the greater LA area and Austin, I have not seen one of these. Kinda like looking for Waldo in the real world.
  21. @hyperv6 Well said my friend. This should be a basic 101 for everyone in 9th - 12th grade so they can hopefully learn from the errors of past adults and get the education they need to work and dig a deep hole that burdens them for life with debt.
  22. Yes, Thank you, sorry I did not post to it as I was distracted on other things. 5G should have been here years ago. Our biggest problem with wireless is the small pipe compared to being plugged in on a wire. Even tri-band WiFi units are still slow compared to if you have a GB wired connection or fiber. The future will in some place in North America go greener and faster than others all depending on the open mind of individuals and their willingness to accept change.
  23. @Wings4Life@oldshurst442 Guys, please if you want to bitch and fight over the political correctness ov EV's, open a thread in the political section. I am sure many would be happy to input their thoughts on this. Please focus on the forum thread about Fast Charging in Europe and what affects it could have on the rest of the world. Take the higher road and move on. Thank you,
  24. So True, Speed does that to those with little patience. Yet at least we are moving back to the natural sounds of the planet with EV auto's. So much quiet time to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding space.
