China Leads the market in EV sales and now they have decided they cannot allow anyone to lead in self driving autos. pony.ai is an autonomous technology startup that is raising funds to push science fiction to reality not just in China but around the world. Recently they just raised $102 million in funding to expand their testing. They currently are a Level 4 autonomous vehicle startup with the HQ in Beijing and remote offices in Fremont California and Guangshou, China. This company founded in 2016 by Tiancheng Lou who worked previously at Baidu an AI company and James Peng a programmer who was part of Googles autonomous program started the company to build systems that could work on any auto. The focus is a complete software stack that works both internally in the auto and externally taking into account action of what is going on around the perimeter of the auto, what is being done inside the auto and what humans may try to do to the auto. The goal is a software solution that is fully independent that can be sold to any auto company. With a quality management team / founders, young staff of graduates and their A and B funding secured, the company is now worth $1 billion dollars without selling a single software solution yet. GAC Group (Guangshou Automotive Group Co) has signed a strategic agreement with pony.ai in February 2018 to cover all aspects of self driving for their product line of auto's. Currently they have a public course that the AI auto's are available for use by the publik in Nansha, Guangzhou and covers a total of 2.8km route. While China currently lags behind the US in AI autonomous driving, no one should ignore them as China is the new Silicon Valley hotbed for tech startups. From software, motors, to battery tech, the Chinese government is helping companies to become global players and take over the markets due to their market protectionism. This does bring up big questions around protecting their market at the cost of competition from the US, Europe or other Asian countries. Japan and Korea have decided to open AI development centers with partners in China to keep from getting blocked out. Does this mean that GM's ownership and work in San Francisco that Honda just bought a piece of could be in jeopardy of getting into the Chinese market? EV Obsession Story

I do like Workhorse electric van. Focus is on commercial use at this time. UPS, FedEx and the USPS are all using it in tests for residential delivery work. 100 miles under freight load. This would be nice for both inner city and residential delivery where range is right in the 80 miles per day use. Quiet

I like this, different than all the other trucks out there. Needs some tweaking but I like it. I like the interior and the fact that this is made with a Carbon Fiber frame and was built to give 186 miles in the cold of northern Canada and be used off road shows this was for more than just normal road use. They sure took a page from Tesla with the large center display. Yet this was also built in partnership with the University of Toronto. So I am thinking more a project study than actual production when it was shown off last year. @A Horse With No Name I quote this as he is right on! And this is my point...less than passionate efforts lead to less than spectacular results. The auto industry is showing passion, there are many waiting to get their first exposure to a solid less maintenance driving experience in EVs. You have lost on how your resistance will not stop the world moving forward with EVs. EVs make noise, just not enough for blind people. So companies are taking that into consideration. The nice thing is above 20 MPH they are silent and lovely when you are driving around. Leave the noise on the race track and embrace the natural sound of Earth.

Ignore Musk, he is already trying to plant the seeds of distrust that anyone other than him could do the job. Murdoch while friends could also push to reign in Musk and his crazy side projects to focus on running a profitable company. No matter what, I suspect it will be a fight to get a new Chairmen in place before the end of the year. I suspect Musk would rather the board be leaderless while he is CEO than to have someone that try's to control him or will replace him.

Weird as they also quote a combined 21mpg when the GM Media press release does not state a combined MPG and it seems 50/50 between various media sites that say 21 or 20. Clearly something stinks in Denmark about the combined MPG. ? I also agree with you that this motor should go Stat into the canyon / colorado and not wait.

I will say that this is the best look I have seen on this new Chevy Mug. Gotta love these quotes from the press release that seem to not totally jive with what others have stated about Ford and Ram. The base curb weight of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado with the 2.7L Turbo is 380 pounds less than the current Silverado with the 4.3L V-6, despite having more interior room and cargo space. Standard on LT and RST trims, the 2.7L engine offers 14 percent more torque and 13 percent better city fuel economy and it is more than a full second quicker 0-60 mph than the 4.3L V-6 it replaces. The Silverado city fuel economy also exceeds the standard 3.3L V-6 engine offering in the Ford F-150 XLT (EPA-estimated 19 mpg city) and matches that of the Ram 1500 3.6L V-6 mild hybrid (EPA-estimated 20 mpg city). The new 2.7L Turbo engine delivers an SAE-certified 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque, exceeding Ford’s 3.3L V-6 and Ram’s 3.6L V-6 mild hybrid by 31 percent and 29 percent respectively. Interesting that this press release talks about 2wd and how it stacks up against the 2wd competition and yet the picture is of a 4x4. ? One must wonder how the 4x4 with the Turbo 4 banger stacks up against the Ram and Ford V6 4x4 systems.
