  1. End result, we have a delay in the Nissan Leaf Plus their long range EV which should be out now as it would deflect attention away from the corporate issues and bring interest onto their long range EV. Though I hear that right now they cannot produce enough to support Europe and the US. Europe is their bigger market, so the US will take a back seat is how I am reading this. I expect lots of changes at Nissan in the next 90 days including leadership. Pretty much anyone who was involved in this coverup will be gone I think. Japanese honor code will demand that those who were involved are kicked out. Good thing the days of Seppuku are over.
  2. https://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/why-general-motors-is-ditching-the-chevy-volt Good read with clear answers from GM on why they are Ditching the Volt. I can understand it now. This is another example of the bulk of buyers are not getting out of Electric mode and so the engine sits and is the worst thing for it just sitting and never running. The charts supplied also show a valid reason to go all electric over ICE. I think GM's focus on ICE near term with pure electric being the long term plan makes sense. I also now think we will see Cruze like replacement options coming out.
  3. This is actually pretty easy, they do use various quality of parts on the power train that make a major difference on how an auto drives and handles. Perfect example is my Escalade glides compared to the Chevrolet Suburban. According to GM, they use a higher quality bearing packs that allow a smooth glide when not under acceleration so the auto goes farther.
  4. I sadly have to agree with you on the first step to the grave. There are too many options today for a company to ignor customers from the entry level to the Luxury. With the start of moving to EVs, this will open up many options to smaller company's that can address and offer tech that buyers want that the traditional OEMs are ignoring. I honestly think Rivian will be the next new auto startup that will move forward and take some lunch from the traditional builders. GM ( I am sorry, but must state it this way) FUCKED UP when they killed the avalanche and EXT. As a loyal GM buyer for generations, I had bought my Escalade ESV Platinum and was planning to get an EXT when they killed it off. I honestly feel GM made a major mistake by not offering a like product on the new platform. I get they killed it off as they moved to a new platform but they should have also had a like product to offer in both the Chevrolet and Cadillac platforms.
  5. 7's in any numbers are considered very lucky by Asian standards.
  6. Another Japanese Piano Jazz musician that studied in the states and then went back home and started to produce some very smooth jazz. She now tours around the world, saw her this past summer at Jazz Alley in Seattle. Love Keiko Matsui! First Album I got of here in Japan.
  7. How about embracing change and the future rather than trying to live in the past? Oops, forgot your Amish!
  8. Valid true point and you are taking it from an East Coast point of view where support and investment for the future is weak at best compared to the west coast, Europe and the Asian rim where cities, counties and states / their equal out of the country are investing. EV charging is not a problem or issue on the west coast unlike the east coast. Some regions will embrace and change over much faster than others. Time will tell just how fast people switch over from ICE to EV. In some areas, much faster than others.
  9. You have the Level 3 & 4 charging network that is already being installed on the EV standards that everyone has agreed to in the auto industry except for Nissan who will sell you a converter for plugging into their EV. Paid for by VW and expanding. GM has joined VW, specifically Porsche with going 800V charging. So right now this is like the late 1800's / early 1900's where gas stations were non-existent for ICE auto's. I expect a faster roll-out of EV charging as many oil companies have bought charging infrastructure companies.
  10. Like Jazz? Toshiki Kadomatsu is awesome, came to the US and studied for 20+ years under various Jazz musicians. Went back home to Japan and started to turn out some amazing jazz. While I work currently listening to my first Album I got of him while in college in Japan. 1989,
  11. Per already being done for people who live in the inner city, pads are part of the cement parking spots in buildings, so nothing to mess up, just pull in and park. On the city streets, the parking spots are marked that have wifi charging, you just pull over and park. No problems with plowing or anything else, these are either installed when new construction happens or retrofit by PSE and the city to have a wide assortment of charging spots for EVs. Just a matter of looking at the needs of the people and planning for it. I posted about the Nissan version of wireless charging in the city back in 2016 here: It is now very common in Japan and Nissan has been very active in building out wireless charging on the west coast. Time is all it takes to get the technology spread.
  12. Valid points made, but then time will eventually get everything changed over and you can also have installed a wireless charging pad that has nothing to pickup or deal with, drive your auto over it on top of the pad at your house and go into the house. The auto will recharge on it's own. Always solutions to every exception or challenge. Yes not everyone can afford it yet and it will take time to get out to everyone, but all new constructions on the west coast requires chargers including homes and for old homes with or without garages, local PSE has free chargers they will come out and install with a 35 foot charging cord. so easy to not have to worry about for some. I understand where your coming from. I would think a pickup truck that meets your needs with all the torque an EV can provide where you drive home and park in your designated spot and the wireless pad recharges it to keep you full would be nice and one less thing to have to deal with. Always full tank. @Robert Hall Having an EV jeep SUV that has a 400 mile range, wireless pad in your designated parking spot so it always recharges and you always have a full tank of electrons would be nice when you leave the house. Solutions can always be done, technology has proven that.
  13. Have to go to Japan or China for that, Toyota i-road anyone? How about the GM Chevrolet EN-V auto that is in China, 2 person small auto. First gen above, 2nd gen below.
  14. Yet none of us really know the long range roll out of new auto's. GM could very well have a segment leading Cruze size EV that will beat them all with far less maintenance required, 300 mile range being more than enough for going to and from work and running errands with the convenience of plugging it in at night at home than running down to the dirty smelly gas station, standing out in the cold and rain or heat of the south. GM is killing off auto's that are selling poorly, but we have not seen the full poker hand yet of what EVs they will introduce that can possibly replace them. I believe GM will have like product that are hybrids or pure electric that will more than make up for the loss of these auto's. Right now not killing off the Sonic and Spark is a Smart move to keep them in that segment when the cost of Batteries is still very high and density is not there yet for such a small package. Solid State batteries such as the breakthroughs that have happened this year alone, https://www.carscoops.com/2018/12/honda-announces-fluoride-ion-battery-breakthrough-allow-batteries-10x-energy-density/ So while we have these technologies that are coming, we also still have breakthroughs in traditional battery design also. https://insideevs.com/did-u-of-m-come-up-with-solid-state-battery-breakthrough/ University of Michigan just released their details on how they can build a stabalized Li battery pack that takes only 15% of the normal time to charge. That is a huge decrease in charging times when we know that Li heats up and can explode when charged too fast without proper cooling. Finding a way to reduce charge times on existing batteries till solid state goes into production is great. Way to look at this is a normal EV charging at home in 8hrs now only takes 15% of that time or 1hr 20 min. Skateboard concept Cruze EV that has way more interior room, far less maintenance with recharging you could do from home will sell well to the masses.
  15. So then some will make the assumption that Hyundai will go the same path as GM, while others will say they learned from history of loosing focus and will stay a massive company. Families learn that wealth building is all about putting differences aside and having heads that focus on their one area to be the best and grow the over all wealth. This is something that many Americans ignore and fail to learn from why Asians have built some massive wealth. We do have Americans who have built massive empires and that shows in Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, but we should never stop learning from competition in other counteries too. Thanks for pointing out the valid history points here, you rock!
  16. Saw them in concert in Japan when they were on tour with the Music for the Masses. I also really like the Violator album, but otherwise all they have.
  17. Many do not understand the Chaebol of Korea or the Keiretsu of Japan. These business groups are so tightly tied together that they have a dominance that US businesses cannot do here due to our laws. This will always make it hard for US businesses in the Asian rim. China has their SOEs (State-owned Enterprises) that pretty much do the same thing as the Korean or Japanese groups. These SOEs do not want to have attention on them so the business groups go by the term Qiyejituan. These are huge and equal in size to most of our Fortune 500 companies, some may even be considered Fortune 100. https://iveybusinessjournal.com/publication/the-critical-role-of-business-groups-in-china/ Good overview if you want to learn more about them. Korean = Chaebol Japanese = Keiretsu Chinese = Qiyejituan
  18. Seems GM is making sure their EVs can run with the best. Latest interview with GM Spokes person Michael Albano told C/D that Electrification is paying a huge role at GM and they wanted the best to insure optimal performance. Al Oppenheiser who has brought us generations of Camaro's including the 427 recently and the latest ZL1 and even the Z/28 will be taking his electrification of the Camaro at SEAMA and moving over to the newly formed AV/EV organization focused on zero-emission auto's. This is a lateral move for him keeping him in his Chief Engineering role which will bring us a Camaro EV and similar performance focused EVs for the entire company. Oppenheiser began his career in 1985 and has been the Chief Engineer since 2007 covering Gen 5 & 6 of the performance Camaros. Oppenheiser has developed a loyal team of colleagues within Chevrolet and the Camaro community with a strong community of Performance Fans as a whole according to this story. As a car guy representing the human element, he has committed to making sure the EVs of tomorrow have the right sound, right handling, right performance to thrill the next generations of Camaro / Performance auto owners. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a25429195/chevrolet-camaro-chief-engineer-moves-to-gm-electric-cars/ He will start his new role January 2nd 2019. Very excited to see what GM brings to the sales floor of fun EV auto's.
  19. Newest Prius with Toyota's All New V8 being used for racing. Talk about sounding like a Corvette now! I approve of this!
  20. Seems according to a recent visit to their HQ and a sitdown, RJ said they would have a 3rd auto. https://www.autoblog.com/2018/12/05/rivian-future-sales-charging-network/ @A Horse With No Name @Robert Hall @ccap41 To Quote: Scaringe made mention of a third Rivian coming our way too. He said it will be "smaller in wheelbase than what you see here in LA, but think of it as Rivian's interpretation of what you would see as a rally car. With a lot of ground clearance." Rivian didn't confirm or deny the report, but we did receive confirmation of a third car in the works. An electric rally car sure sounds cool
  21. Never say never, there is always someone who comes along and knocks the king off their mountain!
  22. I think lots of people need to listen to this song as it is so correct for todays time. Depeche Mode - People are People
