Peugeot Interested in Jaguar-Land Rover; Tata says "Not Interested"
G. David Felt replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Peugeot
Got it, that actually would give the Ford Family a bigger selling stage that would diversify and grow the collective wealth for both big families involved.- 6 replies

The problem all of these DOHC engines is you still have to rev them to make torque, if you have to rev at 3000 rpm to get the 280 lb-ft of torque to get moving compared to a NA engine where it makes that torque at 1500 rpm, there is a performance difference off the line. I remember @dwightlooi covered this in detail with a delightful debate a while back about the high RPM torque engines versus NA low RPM Torque engines even if it only had 200 or 225 lb-ft compared to 300 lb-ft of torque how the off the line and performance feel is different. Turbo Lag, High revving engines to get moving compared to a low revving engine that moves is night and day different. Marketing has made these High Horsepower, lower torque, high revving DOHC engines seem like stars, yet they are heavier and especially with turbo equipment even more heavier for what you can get out of a push-rod V8 or even the NA 3800 V6 that moved plenty of steel. I get the engineering marvel the DOHC engines give, but some times the simpler engine is still far superior and better. Just look at all that has been achieved with the small block V8.

Industry News: Trump Threatens Mexico with Auto Tariffs
G. David Felt replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Industry News
Social supported business versus capitalism for profit business. The challenge is in the details and the need to cut corners to compete. This is pretty much the Boeing versus Airbus battle. Me, I like the boeing plans over airbus after all the international travel I have done. Back on subject of the trade tariffs, Mexico could really hurt the US but just finding other suppliers for their natural gas needs and so many other things. I really question the wisdom in how DC leadership is approaching trade with other countries. From labor needs from entry level to highly skilled and the need to create and sell products, right now, I do not see smart business friendly consistent leadership. This blows! -
Not so sure Tesla is going about this in the best way. They need boots on the ground to stimulate excitement and that Apple product release type carnival atmosphere to drive their sales right now. Apple lost its mojo I believe and Tesla could lose it too if they do not watch it.

What a pathetic engine, another one of these DOHC High horsepower with weak torque at a crazy high rpm put into an ugly yellow car. This gets my Turd award. ?

One would think in today's technology, an OEM would know to not let an engine drone noise into the cab. Sad- 7 replies

Some will say when did we ever ask the government to force safety, emission and fuel economy on us. Just give me the biggest baddest engine in the auto period.
-
Some one has to use the Tesla emission credits since they do not need them, might as well make some money on it. Good business sense here. Keeps us in the Hellcat game while also supporting green tech auto's.

Peugeot Could Make Landfall in U.S. As Soon as 2022

They have a consistent dash look across their product line. They have come a long way since the last time they were here in the US. Not a fan of the dash layout as it looks chaotic to me, but would want to test drive it and see how they drive now and the layout as the 2nd screen to the right of the driver does look to be very driver centric in reach and access. If so might be harder for the front passenger to access. Interesting ? @Forza Royal Thank you for posting the pictures and videos. -

I saw a fairly new C-Class this morning and the lug nuts were rusty. Makes one wonder about the tag "Best or nothing at all!" I wonder if this marketing ever comes to mind when they cut corners on quality.- 15 replies

But, but, but it is not about how many but about the clarity, 1080HD was the rage, now 4K and they just released the new 8K TV's. Ya gotta have the latest, after all the new Avatar movies are in production, first one out this coming December and they all are being filmed in 8K. So they will dumb it down for 4K viewing and 1080 viewing, but 8K is better than 4K which is better than 1080HD. Ya know the Jones / Jones race of stupidity! After all we have to see every hair follicle and they say Porn is the ultimate real life like on those TVs. Course would not know since I am in poor-ville with a lowly 1080 DLP TV, not even a LCD or flat panel.

That is me, I never have had to pay in more than a 100 or so and never got a refund more than 100 or so. I like to keep myself to as near a zero as possible. Live within your means, that is my moto. Way I raised my kids too. Totally agree that people did focus on it as a way to buy big ticket items and now it will change for many.

Would the Ford Family allow it? The family is so huge and wide now, I wonder when family members will say give me the money and walk away from the auto business.- 6 replies

I have from day one always said the DOHC High Horsepower low torque engines put into the ultra pricey toys from Italy were garbage and even the move by all auto companies to that form of engine over a traditional pushrod V8 are still garbage. We have discussed how GM has built many excellent engines that had plenty of torque to get you moving and up to speed yet had them destroyed by TROLL Auto magazines as it did not match the Asian or European DOHC engine garbage. Maybe the high pitch sound does not bother you, but to me, it is unrefined, noisy and not impressive to have 600HP / 3XX LB-TQ. compared to a solid 400 hp / 410 lb-ft of torque V8 with a proper tuned exhaust so you have a nice deep mellow but distinct sound.. I agree to disagree with you on the Tone of one auto over another as this is the preference we both like. I am happy for you that you like the Italian auto's, for me, I will stick with my Tuned American V8 on a Borla OEM Exhaust for my TB till I get the full size Truck / SUV EV.

? Can you say CHINA! ? I knew you could. I think some of the auto companies only future will be to merge with a Chinese owned auto company. Even then I still suspect a number of those Chinese auto companies will go under as the global companies cover China.- 6 replies

http://gmauthority.com/blog/2018/03/psa-ceo-has-no-regrets-over-opel-vauxhall-purchase/ Seems in 2018 the CEO of PSA says he has no regrets of the purchase but nothing about the request for refund. Does say that they will be replacing the Ampera-e immediately with a Opel Corsa EV.
