  1. Interesting story on the new Bridgestone tires designed for BEV application. These low rolling resistant tires do a superior job on dry pavement. They have in past applications been less successful in wet or snow use, which makes me wonder if these type of tires will find themselves in use in the southern states only. Bridgestone tires will help Lightyear One solar car leapfrog Tesla in efficiency (greencarreports.com)
  2. Seems that the assessment is that there is no way the world will be ready to ban ICE auto sales by 2030 due to the lack of battery supply plants. Report: Not enough battery factories to support EVs' global rise past ICE vehicles in 2030s (greencarreports.com) Honda has released that they will start their BEV with using traditional Lithium batteries and will have solid state batteries in second generation models later this decade and that ICE auto's will go till 2040 when they believe they will have sufficient supply of batteries to support the global market. This is based on Honda using GM's Ultium Battery system and powertrain. This tells us that GM will be hard pressed to stop building ICE auto's by 2035 which is their current goal unless they ramp up battery production faster. Honda US EV plans: Solid-state batteries later this decade, all EVs by 2040 (greencarreports.com) Even a better story on Honda plans as it breaks down what they see for a conversion to pure electric with a twist which is they will still also be building Hydrogen based auto's too. Honda announces 100% 'electric' sales by 2040, but there's a twist - Electrek
  3. Latest Update from Cadillac on LYRIQ's Development Acceleration by Virtual Testing. 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ at the Milford Proving grounds, Milford Michigan running ahead of schedule due to cutting edge virtual engineering tools. The new enhanced engineering tools have allowed them to now do far superior airflow optimizing over the design without having to build a prototype and test in a wind tunnel. This allowed Cadillac Engineers to optimize the vented roof spoiler, reducing drag while optimizing range. Cadillac-LYRIQ-Virtual-Aerodynamics-Testing-Animation.mp4 Better yet was that the new engineering tools have allowed the interiors to be designed for optimized cabin comfort taking into account everything from road and windshield noise to music and human conversations to have the best experience one could have. This starts with the actual airflow into and out of the cabin. Cadillac-LYRIQ-Virtual-Cabin-Comfort-Testing-Animation.mp4 What does this mean for gm and the customer? Best to quote the press release: “This new approach certainly achieved our initial goal of drastically reducing our engineering spend on expensive prototypes, but, more importantly, has enabled us to run faster than ever before, and deliver better quality on our first production vehicle builds.” “Now that we’ve moved to the next phase of development, the initial quality of our pre-production test vehicles is some of the best that I’ve ever seen,” said Jamie Brewer, LYRIQ chief engineer. “During early test drives, I’ve been impressed with the ride, handling and overall performance of the vehicle at this stage of development.” Several elements of the LYRIQ program were enhanced as a direct result of extensive virtual development and validation, including: Cabin comfort for all passengers in cold and hot environments Advanced aerodynamics to help maximize range1 and on-road performance Aeroacoustics and active road noise cancellation for a more enjoyable ride Driver assistance and active safety features2 for peace of mind Protection of the Ultium battery in a wide variety of collision scenarios Cadillac LYRIQ’s Development Accelerated by Virtual Testing and Validation (gm.com)
  4. WOW, talk about a styling mess! Is it coming or going???? ?
  5. HELLO McFly!!! Any Brains up there to even turn on a Light! Production Trim and Spec is not REAL WORLD ACTUAL!!! Same here, the LYRIQ is seen in Production trim and Spec, but until actually tested and verified, one cannot make the assumptions and even you CONTRADICT yourself with your September comment. There is so much more we DO NOT KNOW about both this LYRIQ and the EQS except for one thing. MERCEDES FAILED in the Exterior style department especially compared to the LYRIQ! LYRIQ for the Win!!!
  6. Ya might not like it, but in the day of no rear visibility out the corners due to roll over standard now, having those lights there make it very visible from the rear and the side. Good safety point and it is both yours and my personal preference. Take this over the joke of a BEV EQS.
  7. Let's correct this, ASSUMED best interior, ASSUMED Longest Range, Assumed Biggest screen. As an auto that HAS NOT been released yet, it is all assumptions at this point. Who is to say that GM is not being very conservative on their 300 miles and the battery pack for the LYRIQ might not actually be 500 miles in RWD and 400 miles in AWD form. This is all just conjecture at this point till the actual products are out and able to be tested in the real world. Tesla has failed in this regards. Yes longest range of any EV, but no real competition till this year and they have done that in many interesting ways, so MB could be playing the stretch the truth game too.
  8. The more I look at the LYRIQ, I am really liking the front end and the funky rear end has grown on me due to being so different. A love / hate rear end, but good especially when you look at it straight on from the rear.
  9. This reminds me of a bigger version of the future police cars used in Demolition man. I will totally agree with @balthazar that this auto is so dated now and it has not even gone on sale! GM did this better. GM Ultralite
  10. EQS is a failure out of the gate and will only really gain a few badge people as it for sure will not have conquest sales.
  11. Totally makes sense, they can use it for marketing and if others like that package, they can order them up one as they then inform them it has already been sold. Good sales / marketing. Do they have a picture of your truck with the listing?
  12. Seems plenty of people are excited by the LYRIQ reveal and even more with the executive comments on a possible V edition. 13. I agree that there are many lazy people who will only see e-assist as a way to minimize them having to work out. Yet for those that have medical issues with their joints, tendons, muscles, cardiovascular or heart disease, e-assist will allow them to have more freedom and get out, they still have to pedal, just not as hard. I see it as some exercise is better than no exercise and getting fresh air is better than living in a box never moving much. For me, I never see the need for e-assist for exercise, I want to feel the discomfort of knowing I am pushing my muscles to the maximum. Deeper breathing to stretch and work the lungs, better firmer muscles to know that I have core strength. In regards to the Hyundai Santa Cruz Life Style Pickup, I expect it to sell very well. Far more people are getting into mountain biking, gardening and active life style where a pickup like this that allows them to go do fun things with friends and family makes perfect sense and Hyundai has had a good track record of marketing success. I think this truck will succeed and I can clearly see an e-assist hybrid model as well as a full on EV model. Course with Toyota USA announcement that they will also have BEV trucks by 2023 for the market, makes me think Hybrids will be ignored in favor of going pure electric.
  14. Engineering is always about making it better, faster and easier. Welcome to e-assist!
  15. The culmination of a century of innovation goes with the start of a great new era as Cadillac introduces the all electric 2023 LYRIQ SUV.
