  3. So in other words, not much different than the early decades of ICE before they started to focus on MPG. Some were terrible in comparison to others that did much better for burning fuel based on temperatures. We have to start somewhere and I am sure gm as well as others are looking at the auto's that are out there including Tesla which has been benchmarked by many OEMs in their battery tech. I agree that Zero Degradation is a pipe dream, but I do not seen why with proper engineering of the battery cell, battery packaging and temperature management that you cannot reduce the drop in extreme cold or hot to be a very small thing. Over all, be it BEV or ICE, extreme weather affects all.
  4. I am happy to report that the whole family, Wife, Daughter, Son and Myself are fully vaccinated. My son's girlfriend also got vaccinated. Pfizer is stating a need for booster shots 9 to 12 months after you are fully vaccinated to maintain 100% protection.   6. OK, lets clear some things up. First off there was no interstate as has been pointed out by others here, so ICE auto's was a novelty of the early 1900's for local driving, much the way EVs have started out as Compliance / Commuter auto's. Second, gas stations be it 15,000 or 22,000 were NOT the gas stations of today. You take Case in point 1917 Today 2021 Or the common Costco 32 pump mega gas stations The point being is for 100 years, very common for people to have a gas can to go get gas when they run out and it still happens today as it did in the early 1900's. The Novel rich person toy ICE auto would break down or run out of gas and the next thing was a person on a horse going to the local pump to get some fuel or get it towed in to be repaired. No matter how you look at it, ICE had a hard start to common use and every day sight. You state 60,500 gas stations and yet everywhere I look we peaked in 2016 at 164,200 and as of the end of 2020 the figure I keep finding is 111,000 stations. The difference is a couple pumps in the early 1900's compared to 18 to 32 plus pumps per station today. So yes, I will stick with the fact that the much smaller stations of the early 1900's were not found on every corner everywhere like they are today meaning that some people just might have had to borrow or ride a horse to get fuel if stuck on a road some place in the early days. Difference is that you have AAA today that can come to you and give you a charge so your EV can get to a local charging station or at least to a 110 outlet to trickle charge. EV's have had the same hard start and are becoming more common every day. Benefit of EV's is that if one so CHOOSES, they can install a 220V home charger to ensure just like their cell phone that their auto starts every day off with a full charge. Becoming more and more common. We also see more and more commercial chargers for a fee showing up. Yes ICE will be here till 2200 easily, but that does not mean we cannot also move to better, cleaner and less maintenance needed auto's. Expensive at first, so true just like the common person could not afford the early auto's and Ford helped lower that cost to a mass market purchase for many people. I BELIEVE EV's will get there too. YOUR RIGHT, NO ONE wants to do things the way they were 120 years ago, YET change in habits are slow for some, fast for others and EVs are not your 1900's ICE or EV of that era. Today a little common sense and if you want an EV, you can have one new or used with many more choices coming and YOU CAN CHOOSE to be CHEAP or PAY to have slow or fast charging. Everyone embraces change differently, just look how some of us love our advanced smartphones and others still cling to the past of a flip phone. Nothing wrong and I am not forcing the flip phone users of which my parents are part of that group to change, but lets stop the attacks against new technology and the humans who do want to embrace the change of the auto. If we care about society, our awesome multi-cultural world, then we all should want to do our part to help reduce green house gas, improve quality of life and work to better co-exist with this planet. While you point out the everyone depends on auto's we also have a much more advanced public transit system than we had 120 years ago. There is always ways to get around if the EV owner was irresponsible in plugging in their auto last night to help charge it up. We all have choices and EVs require a change in habits that I understand and accept some are not willing to do. So be it and as we all know, ICE is still here for those that want them even as EVs become more common.
  7. Lets also look at the the cherry picking of this story, they talk about how home charging is 36 miles of range over night only and barely even mention level 2 charging. They also talk about having to look for a fast charger and point to Tesla having a 480 V fast charging network but never state that Tesla is also 110 or 220 V electrical from home due to stupid limits on not having more power than 220V at your house. This is a pathetic ICE attempt to put EVs in a bad light by cherry picking little things. . I get it that there are those that Love the roar of a V8, I also like it, but also I love all things quiet and there is nothing wrong with EV's, YES it requires a change in attitude and approach to plugging in and charging at this point, no different than being in an auto in the early 1900's and having to look for a gas station and hope you have a can to hold the gas if your auto ran out of gas on the road to get some gas back to it. We can make all types of excuses and I will say that many of the people in this very limited study are too lazy to change the way they do things based on the Yahoo story, sadly, no way to really confirm this as the story is cherry picking out of the 33 research papers written, no clear actual study was done. They never said anything about not liking the auto's, the focus is on the lack of charging infrastructure that even the Business Insider writer pointed out he only had a 110 at home and after 36miles of charge, drove in the morning to work to fully charge up the battery before returning to home. I would say if he is a writer going to cover the EV industry, then he should have paid to have a Level 2 charger installed at home or his work should do this for him. We all know that Apartment dwellers and cheap home owners who are not wanting to install at the early stage a proper charger are not the audience for ownership yet. Common sense, I could go on but this has gotten too long already as I think I made my point.

  10. The Union VP Terry Dittos is an Idiot. Union wages here in the US are too high to support low entry level EV products just like ICE products and as such, you need to have a lower wage production to cover all areas. Just look at the Asian auto makers who build their entry level auto's in cheap labor markets and import them here for sale to cover that market. At least GM is doing it with a North America country rather than some place over seas. This is a POSTIVE for people to get low cost EVs.
  11. Just saw a B&W Volvo XC40 next to a MB GLA and Volvo Wins hands down as a far better looking crossover. Square and straight to the back, not coupe like and not squeezed pinch a load look like MB has on their crossovers. Really impressed with the Volvo compared to MB which is a styling Fail.

  19. Back to our scheduled LYRIQ discussion, very exciting to see the second battery plant for Ultium battery packs being built in Spring Hill Tennessee. GM and LG Energy Solution Investing $2.3 Billion in 2nd Ultium Cells Manufacturing Plant in U.S. Interesting observation is that if your Full size truck or SUV you get 800V / 375kWH recharging battery packs, but for everything else, is a 400V / 200 kWH battery pack. I honestly think this is a mistake as gm should just standardize on allowing all auto's to have the 800V / 375 kWH recharging.
  20. First off, MB is NOT a battery pack of their own design, it is a JOINT R&D between MB and CATL of China.
