They used the name of the old Opel Monza https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8d/Opel_Monza_GSE_vl_white_TCE.jpg That looks like an old 80's Chevy. Forgot the name of the one but I clearly remember this car as a Chevy I think from the 80's. Interesting in that when I did a image search by google and Bing that neither ever brought this car up for me but the older Chevy Monza Prototypes.

Interesting Design, I am a bit surprised they have used the name from the Chevy Monza for this concept. I would love to have the 1963 Chevy Monza Concept produced today. That would be an awesome car.

Scion News: Scion Misses Youth Market, Struggling In Sales
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Toyota
Never will happen based on their comments and the lack of Toyota to think outside a box for Design language. -
No, no ,no... I meant as perceptions being of diesel being frugal but not the sporty choice... Not really sure the perception that Diesel is Frugal will change much here in the US. Europe is already use to a cast system of those that can afford cars and those that cannot and must use mass transit. Here in the US I believe even with high fuel economy, an expensive sub compact or sub sub compact running expensive diesel will not appeal to the masses as people's perception is that the tiny little cars are cheap commuter cars and we all know diesel is not cheap. Not sure that we will see the mass adoption of Diesel as a Frugal entry level auto that some people are hoping for, but I do wish the auto companies luck on going to more diesels as we need torque monsters to move the OBESE AUTO's due to all the stupid NANNY Devices being required on cars today.

MB has not been in the top 10 for quality and reliability since before 2000 just like BMW has not. Both companies have huge cost structures due to the unions and are living on their name. I wondered about the profit that SMK posted so did a little binging and came up with these stories: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-05-04/bmw-quarterly-profit-advances-on-demand-for-5-series-x3-models.html BMW made a profit of 4,462 euros per car on average, compared with 4,145 euros at Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz and 2,981 euros at Volkswagen AG (VOW)’s Audi. We need to get caddy to have the profit margin being reported by Porsche. http://www.autospies.com/news/Porsche-posts-28-247-average-profit-per-car-38433/ Porsche posts $28,247 average profit per carThat is some freakin profit.

Love the car, the commercial is spot on in more ways than just talking about a car. I get the sense that this car is more about being your weekend driving machine as it would not be a good commuter car. I love the look of the car as it is better looking than the vanilla Chevy design language right now. Jelly Bean CUV's or Jelly Bean Cars take your pick. Yes it is a bit dated, but then it still does have a macho stance to the car that catches my attention. Love it still and would take it here in the states.

Very cool site, interesting stats. I agree with POW that there should be mode selectable options. I just wish they would put this power train in a full size SUV.

Could we be seeing Acura kill off their cars due to going to a modular new base design that will allow them to have higher quality but go back to their smaller is better, simpler roots of a driving machine? In looking around and reading elsewhere, I have to wonder if Acura is not looking to standardize their product lines to reduce cost, improve profits and still allow them to have two distinct auto's.

VW News: Volkswagen Says The GTD Will Be Coming To The U.S.
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Volkswagen
I see this as VW being concerned about the US car companies getting on the TDI band wagon. The Cruze Diesel is a perfect reason to try and corner the market before others can really compete. -
This totally makes sense since everyone has to get on the Nazi EPA Gas standards. This will hurt not help the US. I am all for setting emission standards to clean up the air but they need to get over having gas mileage as a requirement.

I would look to Energy Suspension for beefier suspension components. The SX4 around here people have loved to get up the mountain to ski/snowboard, but everyone agrees that if you get 10K miles before a suspension problem shows you did good. Sad as the little car has so much potential.

Well, Cadillac has made that statement already by having the Escalade as its pricier model... Escalade isn't a statement... it's a leftover. Escalade is NO LEFT OVER!

Happy 4th to you all. I am spending my 4 days putting in a new Bar-B-Que cement pad. Just hauled into the back yard 6,720lbs of cement. Have the frame in place and now time to mix and pour. Have a great one everyone. I will think of you all as I drink and relax tonight before working tomorrow.

Scion News: Scion Misses Youth Market, Struggling In Sales
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Toyota
Your Dreaming, even if Google did get into bed with Scion, the youth are so past this dead brand. I give Toyota 5 years before they look to shut it down. -
Why are we wasting time talking about an over priced, over rated german car that has yet to be in the JD powers quality survey in even the last 10 years. Bleeding edge technology, maybe, but quality? NOPE Missed again! Over Rated Junk.

Actually all of Acura could be shown the door. They have no real design language, their auto's can not fit anyone over 5'8 comfortably. They are designed for little people by little people and it shows and I really think they are way over rated. A auto line that could go away and no one would really miss them.

Hydrogen is a Financial Nightmare for those that think this is the logical next step. This is not the right place for GM to spend Money on. There are far more better ways for them to spend R&D dollars than this mess.

Just a poor execution of a Station wagon on steroids. Reminds me of Eagle in some ways but nothing that would interest Americans.

Scion News: Scion Misses Youth Market, Struggling In Sales
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Toyota
Based on what I am reading, Scion seems to be an R&D explore and see what sticks and does it have mass market appeal then we move it to Toyota. Over all expect Scion to be an also ran brand of the future then based on it wanting to be a niche player. Sadly they do not have a Niche appeal even with their FR-S model. -
Must be a EPA/GOV requirement as of this time, the cost for what it will take to build and create these vehicles does not justify the investment. CNG is a far more logical next step. Just like Bankrupt California, spending millions to build a few select Hydrogen public filling stations and they cannot pay their own debt bills. Some poor decisions being made IMHO.

Well, Cadillac has made that statement already by having the Escalade as its pricier model... Pretty sad when a dressed up Tahoe is your flagship. That needs to change. I am german and I would still take the dressed up Tahoe over anything BMW or MB put out.
