  1. Not only has the Northstar been significantly reworked for use in RWD cars, but all the cars listed above are no newer than 98. Wouldn't it be entirely possible, that those issues with the Northstar have been corrected in the past 9 years? Also, the Northstar is significantly larger than the larger displacement 5.7L, 6.0L, 6.3L, and even the 7.0L used in the Z06. Displacement is only bore x stroke x # of cylinders, which only affects the external size of the engine to a limited degree. There are many more factors that affect the external size of the engine, such as the angle between the cylinders, placement of the cams, and just the overall design of the engine. The 3.8L has no place in todays market, for any car, regardless of target demographic.
  2. If I was in the market for a sedan, I would definitely trade in my GTO for a G8. I think the only gripe alot of people here have, is that it was designed in Australia by Holden. I think it looks more aggressive than the 97-03 Grand Prix, with better proportions. I won't even compare it to the 04+ Grand Prix, because that car does absolutely nothing for me, and looks odd from many angles, especially the 3/4ths size spoiler. The G6 is much more tame looking, doesn't have near the mechanicals the G8 has, and there has been nowhere near the uproar that there is on the G8. What recent Pontiac has been aggressive? G5? G6? Torrent? Grand Prix? The answer is none of them. Yet everyone is in an uproar over the G8, the only one with the goods to back it up(RWD 6.0L 6 speed manual). No wonder why GM abandoned the RWD market long ago. It seems like buyers that want RWD cars, on C&G at least, are the most finicky buyers of all. Not only that, but they are the most vocal about bringing RWD back. When GM attempts to do so, they nip it in the bud, and doom the car before it is even released. The perfect example is the launch of the GTO. Pontiac mags, which are big advocates of RWD, printed so much negativity about the GTO that it was doomed to fail. The only effect that I can see the uproar having is either swaying GM away from making RWD cars, or worse, leading to the death of Pontiac
  3. Hopefully He can do better than those. The Cobalt coupe is the only one that looks any good. If he's responsible for the G6 GXP, then things might start to get ugly, literally.
  4. I wasn't sure on the SRX. So that ones probably it. Though yours aren't too hard to guess, since they are so similar to mine. Oh I forgot Pontiac: Solstice, G8, GTO
  5. Sky Sierra CTS SRX? Corvette, Silverado, Camaro, Tahoe, Suburban Cant figure out the rest.
  6. Chevy- Corvette and Camaro Pontiac- G8 Saturn- Sky and Astra Cadillac- SRX, CTS, STS, and XLR
  7. Sounds like mine, except, remove Opel since we don't have them here.
  8. Pontiac Wave, or Pontiac ShockWave
  9. The Astra needs to have a premium. It is a premium car compared to the Cobalt, so it should have a higher pricetag. I think the Astra will do well, even being a hatch. It is one of the only hatches I like, and it will probably get good gas mileage. I believe the Astra is a size class up from the Rabbit and Fit also, and will be better all around than the Caliber.
  10. GM would be stupid to drop the Impala name. Especially right when the car returns to RWD.
  11. The exact same thing happened to my brothers 06 Charger with the 3.5L. Luckily, his only had 25,000 miles and the dealership fixed it for him.
  12. Especially when the Escalade has as much power, is a bigger vehicle, and is much less aerodynamic. Not to mention will cost thousands less.
  13. Are there any plans for hybrid Lambdas? If they could get 30mpg out of a full size SUV, that would be a huge marketing point.
  14. This is one plant. It is completely different to look at the overall company, compared to 1 plant. GM has enough workers to build probably double the amount of cars they sell, but is not allowed to cut workers. Due to modernization, less workers are needed to build the same number of cars. The plant doesn't have to pay for 2 retirees per every 1 active worker. The massive buyouts, cost GM massive amounts of money, that could have better spend building better cars. The union prohibits efficiency. Why modernize plants to where one worker can do the job of 10, when you still have to pay for 10 workers? Why build cars faster, when it costs the same either way? Why does GM sell so many cars to rental agencies, and why did GM have to resort to big incentives? Because GM has to pay for the workers whether they are making cars or not. That's just a recipe for disaster.
  15. I'm trying to think of a coupe uglier than this, and nothing is coming to mind. I think this car is the complete opposite direction from where Pontiac should be going. I just cringe thinking of all the bad articles, and negative press Pontiac is going to get from this car. Alpha can't come soon enough, the G6 needs to die.
  16. The Japanese companies give rebates, but in a different form. They can sell X car with $2000 more equipment(Nav, bluetooth, etc) for the same price as a GM car, and still make more money on it. For GM to do that, they would have to price it out of the market to make a profit. They can't keep the prices the same, because the average consumer is going to take the product with more equipment.
  17. I'm not so sure about that. And even if that is true, how many are performance versions of a coupe? It's only natural for a sub-compact sedan, or boxy wagon to not look good. But a coupe? How do you mess that up?
  18. You seem very selective in what you choose to compare. Do you forget about GM NEEDING to keep plants running, because they will have to pay the same costs whether they are pumping out cars or not? Do you forget about GM's $6 billion per year fixed medical cost? Or how about that GM has like 8 times more workers than Toyota in the US, but they can't lay them off because they would still have to pay them 75% of their salary through the jobs bank? What good does it do GM to build cars faster when the price is the same either way?
  19. This car makes the Sebring look beautiful. That's saying alot
  20. Please leave this topic dead. I have lost my appetite. I would rather drive a Scion xB. GM, didn't you learn anything from the Aztek?
  21. What you see on the track means nothing. Even tire pressure could mean win or lose on the track. Did you test the tire pressure of each GTO and SRT8 you saw at the track? And while we are talking about personal stories, I raced a 95+ Viper. It was the previous gen, but had the exhaust out the back so it wasn't one of the early ones. My nose was at his door up until about 90mph when we slowed down, so I was less than a car length behind a 450hp ~3300lb car. Oh yeah, and that was only about 2 weeks after I bought my GTO, and it is my first manual trans car.
  22. I have a silver remote control one sitting on my monitor at work.
  23. Well I know my GTO could beat an SRT8. I've seen a few, but it was during the middle of the day with too much traffic so I couldn't put them in their place.
  24. I have to agree with that. I average around 20-21mpg with a 400hp V8. My brother with a 3.5L Charger gets about the same, maybe 1-2 mpg better, if that. My previous car, a Grand Prix GTP with 240hp V6, I averaged 22mpg.
  25. If they could potentially take sales away from the GMT-900s, since they are so similar in size, they will need to charge a similar price.
