  1. Only when a brand of which I've owned 5 of is going to be killed for no reason at all when a much weaker, more damaged brand gets to live on. When management of the company can't figure out what they are doing, and cost themselves money by their on again off again, cancel a progrem after it's 75% developed antics, then decide to kill Pontiac because that's their scapegoat. Kill Zeta because someone in Europe has a problem with it, blaming it on CAFE even while the Camaro will get better gas mileage than the smaller, lighter, less powerful Malibu. Not sending Alpha to Pontiac because someone in GM is hellbent on killing it to save Buick. Why the hell do we come here if we don't care about a certain brand/company?
  2. Well I hope GM goes down with it then.
  3. Well the good die early, and the bad live forever.
  4. Seems like we would be better off if Holden split from GM and then shipped some cars here instead of Opel splitting from GM. Holden could split from GM, buy Pontiac, and send us their cars, while GM and Opel get run into the ground.
  5. Sorry, I have no allegiance to Buick, or for that matter GM, especially with recent announcements regarding Pontiac. I don't care what Buick makes, as I won't buy a Buick anyway. This is the car I have been waiting for Pontiac to get for years. The G8 is a little to big for my tastes, and Alpha would fit perfectly. And now it's going to Buick? Sorry, but that's not, and will never be ok with me. The only reason I ever owned a GM outside Pontiac(my 2000 Chevy Malibu) was because I had no credit and couldn't get the Pontiac I wanted because it cost more.
  6. I believe Pontiac outsells Buick 2 to 1. Alpha also fits with the brand Pontiac should be, and GM said it would be, but never made it happen. It does not fit with Buick's image at all. We will get to hear complaints about the suspension being too harsh because some older person bought it thinking it would be a smaller floaty Buick. That is, if anyone buys it. Too bad it won't be a Pontiac. I'll have the cash to buy one by the time it's out.
  7. Maybe GM's executives are old and senile. It would explain why they would keep Buick over Pontiac. A small RWD buick, it will flop, and I hope it does. When will Buick be killed, when it's sales no longer reach 100k? That day is coming.
  8. More news for GM: That applies to cars also. I'd rather have a diesel car than a hybrid car.
  9. Don't think so. It's been shown that the GTO was profitable, and was not cancelled due to sales, and the G8's sales are trending upward, in a down economy. So yes, lets not learn from mistakes by not doing proper research.
  10. I might be buying a used Mini soon. I'm thinking about lowering my monthly payments to something more reasonable. Maybe a used Boxter S just because I have been lusting over something mid-engine since, well as long as I can remember, and a 911 would kill me on insurance. I might drive a few Audis or BMWs before I make my choice though.
  11. I feel the same way. Not for reliability issues, but for every other boneheaded move GM makes.
  12. Isn't the Yaris a subcompact? Why are we even talking about Cobalts?
  13. All this talk about Minis is making me want one.
  14. I've never had a problem with my Passat or 626 getting cold in Arizona's 115 degree summers.
  15. And some of us are tired of GM's cheap, and economy look. It's like a Cavalier, or Corolla. The Mini, looks like no other economy car, and is a premium small car, and it shows.
  16. Yep, but IMO that could be said for any FWD car. Even a Yaris would be better if it was RWD.
  17. They are both FWD. The Mini is one of the only FWD cars I wouldn't mind owning.
  18. And that is why the depression continues! Panic, and fear, are causing companies to collapse now. If everyone were to panic, and pull all their money out of banks, like what happened to WAMU, the whole country would collapse. People are already doing it with stocks, which is why everything is down, even financially sound companies. $9 Trillion has been pulled out of stocks and is just sitting around in securies because people are afraid. No one is spending(maybe why GM is on the verge of collapse, no?). If no one is buying anything, companies lay people off because they can't sell anything. The consumer needs to share the blame. They also had a part in taking out interest only ARMs for mortgages they new they couldn't afford because they figured the value of their house would never go down and could sell it once their rate adjusted. When they couldn't sell it, it was foreclosed.
  19. Because they can be bought for close to the same price?
  20. That can be done to any car. And no those Ring times don't tell me how nice the car is. It just means the car has a good engine, and the suspension has been tuned for a track. I don't know what my GTO gets at the Ring, and don't even care if the Cobalt is faster at the Ring. My GTO is still more fun to drive any day of the week, on the track or off. The Mini wont set any tracks on fire with it's 160hp, but I'm willing to bet that it is still more fun to drive than a Cobalt. And it doesn't look as cheap, or feel as cheap.
  21. The Cobalt SS is a good engine in a bad car. Nothing besides the engine makes the car compelling.
  22. So sending those buyers you could have got to other companies brands helps?
  23. I'd much rather have a Cooper S than any Cobalt.
  24. Well the truth is, GM doesn't know how to save itself. Killing Pontiac is probably something they are doing to show the equally dimwitted politicians that they "have a plan". Their plan is to cut off their limbs to stop the bleeding.
  25. My point is that GM will be losing even more money without Pontiac. Cutting Pontiac will only make them fall faster. It is still GM's own fault they got themselves in this position by rebadging cars for 30 years for all their brands. I'm getting to the point where I don't care if the whole company goes down, because Pontiac was really the only brand I had much interest in anyway.
