  1. I didn't even notice that, but it is interesting. At a time when the market is shifting from trucks to cars, you would think GM's second best selling car division would be safe.
  2. Oh, and Pontiac accounts for nearly 25% of all of GM's car sales excluding trucks.
  3. Kill Pontiac. What are they doing only being down 30% when the next closest brand is down 40%. They only sold 4 times as many cars as Buick and nearly half what Chevy sells. Why is Pontiac still alive. The G8 sucks too, look at it outselling the Lucerne and the Lacrosse.
  4. Exactly. I think it is reasonable to believe that gas prices will reach $4 a gallon again before 2014(probably more like 2010-2011), which is when GM is predicted to break even. Truck sales will tank, GM will not get the profits they predicted from selling trucks and SUVs. Therefore, GM will not break even under that plan by 2014, and the govt will need to continuously support GM. Bad plan.

And GM's contractictions that they would only lose .3% marketshare even though they would be cutting brands, and increase prices, even though the market is shifting from trucks to cars, and still only break even by 2014. After submitting that plan, Wagoner had but no choice but to leave. It proved he just really had no clue what to do.
  6. As long as GM can use their brands correctly, the only ones that need to go are Saturn, Saab and Hummer. My idea would be Chevy on one side, BPG on the other, and Cadillac as it's own. Pontiac would off the sportier, more expensive versions for the small to midsize cars, and Buick would be softer, more luxurious, midsize to fullsize cars. GMC would get trucks that are more expensive than the Chevy trucks. Pontiac would get the Corsa, Astra, and and Alpha, while Buick would get Epsilon II and the platform that will be above Alpha, maybe a stripped down Sigma?
  7. But the issue isn't what the general public thinks, it's whether it saves money or not. If it operates as one, but appears to the public as 3, isn't that a good thing? Cost savings of being one, but can still sell to 3 different markets.

I think the govt was actually just saying GM's plan wont work, because GM was saying their share will only fall so much, but they believe it will fall more especially if they are cutting/selling brands, they said GM can't make all their profit from trucks, because those profits wont be there forever once gas prices rise. GM's plan sucked, that's all there is to it.
  9. What is my GTO the same as again? Or the G8 the same as? GM did fail, and it was because they didn't try. It was because they decided to spend billions on Saturn to start it, and more recently with a brand new lineup, whos sales have yet to reach Pontiacs.
  10. So GM failed at every aspect, and people here just expected the govt to say, ok you were close enough here's some money?
  11. While I don't care about interiors as much as performance, and what the drive wheels are, all else being equal, I would take the car with the better interior. Since most cars are so similar in performance now, interiors play a bigger role in deciding which car to buy.
  12. That made me laugh, despite how sad it would be. They could also revive the Chery Rega, and and Chery Corrair.
  13. I see Pontiac buyers going to Mazda or Nissan, and Buick buyers going to the Impala, Taurus, or Avalon.
  14. Because instead of continuing to make Pontiac great, they decided to waste money creating Saturn. Then buying Saab.
  15. I'd rather it go to Hyundai than Toyota. Though, I guess Toyota is still better than being owned by Chery, slightly. I was thinking maybe an independant American company though.
  16. It's not the number of brands killing GM, it's how they use them. Pontiac hasn't got a significant investment since the G6, and even that wasn't as significant as other brands have received since then, and is still GM's 3rd best selling brand.
  17. Well, I meant a successful restructuring. I honestly think it's too late, and anything GM does now wont help, short of ch 11 bankruptcy, or some other govt forced reduction in costs.
  18. I think GM missed the deadline of when they needed to restructure to become a viable business, and it was about 20 years ago. After that point, anything GM did right would only slow the decline.
  19. GM was falling off a cliff. Any direction would be better than the one they were headed in, or, at least it couldn't be a worse direction.
  20. Hopefully they have enough sense to sell the Corvette to someone who will keep it alive if GM does go under.

  22. I hope you don't try to kill the good parts of BMW like you always tried to at GM.
  23. Hey don't worry, we just won't need to buy GM cars anymore. There are still other companies that will never abandon RWD.
  24. Or the bank might just say no. No one wanted to invest in GM, that's why they needed to turn to the govt. And if GM doesn't like their terms, they have the right to refuse the loan...
  25. Investing in GM right now amounts to nothing more than gambling your money away. The government doesn't want to control GM, but they don't want to keep giving GM money if they will never become a viable company either. There is a time when you need to look at the business side of things, and not react from an emotional side. GM is just a terrible business to invest in. They need massive restructuring before that will change.
