1. Perhaps I am too much the optimist, but I think that with time any model overlap will be solved. Its been only a short time that this sales oultet was common knoweldge and not completely implemented (still some stand alone dealers) yet.
2. When things look alike people subcounciouly assoicaite them together. GMC is trying for the professional grade tough truck image and spending plety of money to do it. GNC at best are associated with vitamins. At worst they are associated with performance ehancing steroids and other chemicals. There has been some real nasty goings on in California with the Governor taking money from this industry for assisance in legislation that is kind to the industry at the expense of teenagers. If this problem disappears, then things won't be so bad. If it worsens it will effect GMC brand image.
3. There is another item that needs to be marketed better also. It's the included ONstar. This really is a neat package for a father to send his daughter off with (or a husband to get for his wife). There are three buttons. The middle one allws you to talk with the OnStar assistant. If the check engine light comes on they can run the OBDII diagnostics and tell my daughter whether she must stop immediately or whether the car can continue home. Peace of mind. The left hand button is a hands free cell phone with some free time attached to it. The third button is the red one and it summons the police if there is an accident, if there is a high jacking or an attempted rape/whatever. This conversation may seem a bit depressing but it is all piece of mind.
4. <<Polk says, "loyalty is determined when a household that owns a new vehicle returns to market and purchases or leases another new vehicle of the same model or make." >> In other words a typical Saturn owner trades in his S-series Saturn with over 250,00 miles on it and gets a new ION.
5. I checked the Uplander, Aveo, and theVibe and they had the same overall quality and mechanical rating. Not a particluarily good showing for any of them. One could argue GM' s worst matched the Toyota Vibe.
6. Flowmotion: What is wrong with the Buick-Pontiac-GMC sales channel idea? Of course it needs more time to be fully implemented, but it seems a good compromise to me. Also I notice people here are "slaves" to the divison tag lines such as Pontiac's "excitement division" and Saturn's "import fighter". I think these are just useless commercials not true brand characters. Does GM fall into the mistake of believing their own hype with regards to this.
7. actualy the news is much better than that! The ION won the most owner loyality thingy for the second year in a row. Further more saturn ION made the top 12 greenist car list along with Cobalt
8. Thanks. Since we see some of these things quite differently, that comment means a lot to me.
9. The qoute I was replying to clearly was that GM got nothing out of the deal, NOT what Toyota may have gotten out of the deal . GM gets a lot out of the deal as described. Before you accuse me of Bull$h! why don't youy learn to read. It is your description of overcapacity as being bull$h! that is bull$h!. Overcapacity has been a problem for many years; that's what the big rebates are all about afterall.
10. I disagree with you on all this (except the ports thing). However, your assertion that GM gets nothing from the Freemont deal is beyond the pale. GM's 2 biggest problems are overcapacity and legacy costs. Toyota is helping GM out here not only by taking one factory off of its hands, but the one factory with the historically greatest labor disputes.
11. I suspect that it is a feeble attempt to give credit to the many people who researched and wrote the article.
12. By the time get ahead of Toyota in hybrids, Toyota will have moved on to diesels.
13. It's all about size? The STS and the 300 weigh the same and are the same length.
14. With all the talk about Buick being an old man's car, and Baby boomers being such bad people(some of you posters really suck), I thought the following piece from the car connection was interesting.
15. You are of course welcome to your opinion but I put my money on the line. Three week ends ago my youngest and I went shoping for a new car. I thought we would get a Cobolt because I have a $3000 GM card rebate for it. We passed on the Cobolt because my daughter thought it felt like a rental car and the buying experience was awful. We went to the Saturn dealer and got an IOn. It looked better, it handeled better, was quieter nad more comfortable. I guess the upside is that I still have the $3000 rebate for one of her three other sisters.
16. Since GM is taking the Spring Hill factory back, doesn't that mean that Saturn really didn't loose all that money that the chevy cry babies are winning about about. Are those same people crediting Saturn with the money to develop the theta archictecture of the equinox or the Atlas engine family?
17. Bathazar is quite correct the old big three (GM, Ford, and Chrysler) no longer exist. It is an old expression that is easy to fall back on.
18. 1. eminent domain is for real estate, not the contents of the property. 2. Historically eminent domain has overpaid for property not 5 cents on the dollar but just the opposite.
19. I am sorry to say we shouldn't gloat. One of the big three is going to report surprisingly poor results this quarter.
20. Cool! Let's talk cars!
21. Cartoonish! Heck lets go down to the GM headquarters and burn a few danish flags. Maybe we can bring doughnuts in protest of Danish Pastry.
22. Like many here, I missed the whole thread before it disappeared. So my comments are quite limited. The lack of a front page retraction just isn't acceptable. Josh fix that and we can all move on.
23. Beagles seem to be winning th epoplularity contest! We have a beagle right now along with the snauzer, cockapu, Lab, and Chow. Ahh beagles -- it was the best of times -- it was the worst of times. The coat is so easy to take care of and their bladders are as strong as steel. She does yelp a lot and steals food toys, anything. I wouldn't go that route again.
24. minature schanuzer and cocker spaniel . The first never stops barking and the second never stops peeing when startled by the all that barking.
25. Was it Cartman that said "I'm not dense, I'm buff." Perhaps I prefer "I'm not dense, I'm big boned." Then again there is "I'm not dense, I've got a slow thyroid." Is a thyroid like a Yugo?
