  1. Green sedan with automatic transmission.
  2. Mostly you are right. Any president could sell off stocks from the reserve and in so doing drive prices down. He could also lower the federal speed limit which would lower consumption which would in turn lower prices.
  3. I went car shopping with my youngest a couple of months ago. The Cobalt was the top car on our list. I have a $3000 GM card rebate that would have made it a great deal. We drove it and my daughter was unimpressed. After driving an Elantra and then a PT Cruiser I was getting just a little too tired for more of this. However my daughter was anxious. We compromised and went to the Saturn dealer. I had no intention of getting an ION because I had no rebate but I knew the shopping experience would be pleasant and restful. We were shocked at how much nicer the ION rode, handled, looed, was finished, etc. than did the Cobalt. We have had several months of blissful trouble free driving so far. The center mounted guages that most of you can't get used to have turned by youngest from a timid driver to an accomplished one. Her older sister has a relatively new and trouble free Corolla but is jealous of the ION.
  4. It been quite a while since I have waisted my time on Edmunds but Liz Kim was one serious piece of bovine excrement.
  5. I think we are forgetting to add in the petroleum inputs necessary for some of these ideas. If we were to import Corn from other countries, or even ship it around our country, it would take more oil than we would get out of it. Someone proposed growing corn in their backyard. Who will supply the oil to ship the corn to the processing center. Also the fertilizer used for a crop like Corn comes from petruleum. The backyard thing isn't all bad though. Instead of crowing corn do what the Israelis do. Use the sun to heat water passisvely instead of using natural gas or electricity. This would free up these resources for transportation, etc. Likewise consider dandelions as an alternative.
  6. Crude oil is the raw product that the oil companies must buy. If its price goes up, and they mantian retail price where it was they would have their lowest profit or a loss. If instead they raise the price of gas fair amount, then their profits would remain constant. What we have here is they are paying (for example) $20 a barrel more and charging the consumer $30 more. Too bad we didn't see this coming and invest in oil stocks (actually I did in my kids account).
  7. It seems to me that there is too little land, too little water, too little fertilizer, and too few growing days for this ethanol thing to work the way most invision it. Also alcohol (ethanol) has a lower BTU/gal rating then the fuels we are used to further raising transportation costs for the distribution of this fuel.
  8. And if I remember correctly, Griffon said that made it about the same size as the present ION.
  9. I wouldn't pretend to really know with so many excellent sales people here, but I always thought that used car sales more dollars for the dealership than new. The new car sales lend a certain air of respectability to the used car end of the business. Thoughts/comments?
  10. I have read a few careful studies of medicine in England and Canada. Although it is true that elective surgeries have much longer wait times there, apparently emergency care, wellness care, and infantile mortality rates are all much better there than here. Of course the $$ is much less.
  11. One twist here is that Mitsu doesn't even make the raider. This would be like Pontiac giving away a G% lease with a Vibe sale.
  12. NHTSA recalls are only for saftey related items. So this really isn't a recall -- it's worse if you like.

    2008 Malibu

Isn't the Saab 9-3 close. It's a little small and a little pricey (even with limited standard colors) but close.
  14. Built in Kentucky! You must be kidding. I thought all Toyota engine/transmissions came from Japan in minature form, are flown here, and are reconstituted with water at the U.S. factory.

    2008 Malibu

I find the Malibu interior bright and cheerful and an ergonomic marvel.
  16. from Wikipedia's entry for Jacob Schiff Due to his fame, his wealth and power, and the large number of causes, events, and organizations he was involved in, Jacob Schiff has been incorporated into many conspiracy theories, most inspired in large part by the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. He is accused, along with the Rothschilds, Warburgs and others, of being one of the leaders of a worldwide Jewish conspiracy to dominate the economies, and therefore the governments, of the world. Schiff demonstrated time after time his dedication not only to the Jewish community, but also to his adopted homeland of America. Over the course of his lifetime, Schiff donated many hundreds of thousands of dollars to American corporations and organizations, and to Jewish causes in the US, Palestine, and around the world.
  17. And I suppose that the Rothchield's control Toyota too!
  18. Maybe because I am a cheap bastard, but I think the 4 cylinder colorado/canyon is in a good position. If we could just get the magazines to stop comparing the 5 cylinder to everone's 6 and instead compare GM's largest in class 4 cylinder as a true compromise for expensive gasoline.
  19. Exon reporting the highest profits for a quarter for any U.S. corporation is history is not what I would call playing games.
  20. I think that the Jetta, new Bettle, golf are all from Mexico or Brazil.
  21. Is the Paso up relative to the dollar again?
  22. My recollection is that gas prices peak a week or so before memorial day so we are talking about May I think.
  23. confirmation of possible shipments of opels to NA, nothing new here.
  24. click here for yet another chinesse import I suspect that some day these companies will make us feel all warm and fuzzy about Toyota in comparison.
  25. I'm not sure why you would include the lexus brand in your arguement and not include the comparable Land Rover, Volvo, Ason Martin, Jaguar and other 0% North American content Ford products. edited to include my automotive purchases for the last 20 so years. 2006 Saturn ION, 1999 Pontiac Grand AM, 1996 GMC Sonoma, 1994 Chevy Cavelier, 1994 Saturn SL2, 1992 Chevy P30. Hardly the record of a Toyota fan/US domesitc brand hater.
