  1. VW products and the previous generation large FWD Chryslers cars bent easily with manual tie downs. Of course those aren't hefty bof trucks! I heard that the industry seems to be shifting from chains to straps to alleviate some of these issues.
  2. When I purchased my HHR last month a mini war erupted between salesmen as my salesman mistakenly thought the buyers at the next table were trying to buy the same HHR. When we got to the FYI office our paperwork was momentarily mistaken for a third HHR sale. A good deal will bring the customers out of the woodwork. Toyota has plenty of good deals here. Certainly GM sales are heavy into trucks and SUVs in California but just not to the extent you see from your perspective. I've driven cross country several times in the past 3-8 years and the prevalence of "trucks" only increases as we leave California. I do agree with you comments about Hyundai/Kia in the previous post. They are quite acceptable vehicles and a match for the second tier Asian and Chrysler products.
  3. I think that you are being to pessimistic here. I see plenty of Domestic "cars" in my my neighbors and relative driveways. The % is no doubt lower than in other parts of the u.S., but that is just because Toyota's are thousands of dollars less than GM cars here.
  4. How's that white board working out for them? I see more Porsche vehicles than Audi! Certainly there is no comparison to Mercedes and especially BMW. On the other hand 1 in every 5 of GM's sales is in Florida+California. There are frequent California special option packages for California cars. What exactly isn't GM doing that you would think would raise their CA friendliness?
  5. Whether this is a good idea or not, don't blame Ceribrus. Chrysler has been entertaining bids from various logistics companies for quite some time. Mopar is profitable and thus is sell-able. Historically speaking Chrysler took a similar route in the 80's during the bankruptcy scare. They sold off lots of Mopar's real estate for a cash infusion and then leased the properties back from the new owners.
  6. I don't know .. G8 could lend itself to some neat commercials with the tag line I could nave had a G8 accompanied by some nice friendly forehead slapping.
  7. If the PT cruiser is officialy a truck, then this is a g-d dam
  8. Aren't GMC sales much higher (% of GM sales) now then it was then.
  9. A bit thin! Isn't he really saying that Chevy can't walk and chew gum at the same time? With friends like that ....
  10. I can understand that, its chrysler that doesn't. I personaly feel Mexico and Canada deserve a few assembly plants from years and years of buying U.S. made cars.
  11. It is my understanding that the diesel combustion process is hotter than spark ignition and that in turn leads to increased nirous oxide emissions. Hydrocarbon, carbon dioxide, etc are lower. Diesel fuel istself is dirty more so than the ignition process.
  12. I think that the high performance models will sell in similar proportions to the more mundane models they are derived from. Last month's sales for the Caliber were only ca. 5k compared to the HHR's 13K. Neither the srt nor the SS are compeling enough to draw in many conquests sales.
  13. I understand that but was responding to the poster that I quoted who felt it was an important factor that production would be moved. My point is that it was important to him but obviously not to the new Chrysler that is importng cars from China.
  14. A couple of weeks ago I was at th local Chevy/Buick dealer waiting for my car to finish its warranty repairs. I saw two Saturn Aura cars parked next to each other in the short term (customer) parking area. They were two different but innocuous colors (perhaps beige and silver). Next time I looked in that direction there were three young ladies in business attire (high heals, skirt, and jacket). They were carrying brief cases. After a few minutes conversation they drove away. My suspicion is that they are GM corporate people (factory reps?). Perhaps GM is using the Aura for company cars to get the out in the public's eye. I hope I don't have an over active imagination. :AH-HA_wink:
  15. That wasn't the photographer the testers were giving the one-finger salute to, but rather the customers who remember how great Chrysler was in the 60's and how far they have fallen.
  16. If the U.S. lowered its purchases of oil from international markets (through a combination of CAFE, lowered speed limits, rationing, increased oil exploration in Florida and Alaska, etc.) Iran would collapse in two weeks. Russia would follow soon after which would be even more significant as they are supplying nuclear capabilities to Iran and modern weapon systems to both Iran and Syria.
  17. The only car from Chrylser Corp. that outsells it is the 300. It even outsells the minivans last month.
  18. The company that is leading the way to the importation of cars from the country suffering daily recalls( and the resulting suicides, and death penalties) must certainly consider Mexico the 51st state!
  19. Makes a fellow list member proud!
  20. If the Nummi joint-venture were withdrawn, GM's overcapacity would become an even greater problem. This in turn would lead to another downturn in GM's dept rating. The cost of borrowing money would go up and the turnaround and profitability of GM would be lost. Over dramatic and overstated, perhaps just a little.
  21. Pontiac played this same "give us a name for the color" game before the first generation Pontiac Vibe came out. Perhaps Saturn should use some of Pontiac's left over names!
  22. We have both also and the Ecotec (ION plus HHR) is much more satisfying. The fuel milage difference may be due to a difference in vehicle weight. We also had two of the 2.2 l. OHV GM engine and even that was more satisying than the Toyotas.
  23. How were these power increases obtained; lower internal friction, increased displacement, more advanced fuel management, etc.??
  24. Oh give us a break! It's mediocrity on tiny little wheels.
