  1. listen here You'll need earphones or speakers. This is an NPR report on "behavioral economics". They start with a rather long description of people trading in their SUVs at Car Max. There are some funny moments like when the author describes why people over react to gas prices. Fun segment in my opinion.
  2. 4 lambdas does seem one or two too many. One of the problems is the last one (traverse) is probably the nicest. Another problem is that the Enclave and Travers are similar while the Saturn and Arcadia do resemble each other. It would make sense that the BOP sales arm would get one not two versions. However the Arcadia is nicer than the Outlook. It is little wonder that Saturn sales don't match the other "twins" with the lest number of dealers and the least attractive version. Looking forward is a lot different than looking back. At this point there is no reason to drop a paid for vehicle.
  3. I will keep an eye our for it. Thanks.
  4. I. While I can't really comment on whether GM should fight the media or not, I would remind you that GM did just that when the Los Angeles Times auto writer (Oneal?) went after the G6 at its introduction(including withholding advertising). I think it proved neither beneficial or disastrous. Sincerely, John McCain and Barry Obama II. It is not the freedom of the press that has gotten out of hand, but rather the quality of the people who work there. Constant staff reductions have left those behind demoralized and frequently selected for the "less able" among them. I understand that GM may be hurting for equity, but it would be interesting if they could see their way clear to buy a couple of big city newspapers on the cheap. They could funnel it through OnStar perhaps.
  5. I'm not sure if you were addressing me or not. If you were; I neither blame the media nor do I excuse them. As a matter of fact I am not even claiming that there is a failure here. Sincerely, John McCain and Senator Obama :AH-HA_wink:
  6. FOG will appreciate this one
  7. When I looked at the charts, Saturn actually had the smalles drop in sales of any brand. The problem brands(in alphabetical order) were Buick, Hummer, and Saab.

    The Volt

By the way over 400 oil wells were started in California last month. Likewise, CA has long lived with the advantages and disadvantages of close by offshore drilling. Furthermore, the authoritative Stratfor Reports, says that the proposed future offshore drilling will be very expensive because the oil deposits there are unusually widely spread out.

    The Volt

Non-photovoltaic cell solar power seems to be gaining acceptance. Also there is still quite a bit of hydrolectric power. Does any one know what a volt operating parameters would look like with just the series hybrid function included. Purchas price should drop considerably.
  10. I read(MSN money?) that the European banks are just starting to go through what US banks have been dealing with and that they will be less able to adapt. Comments?
  11. Unless there has been a Major change in Japan, wouldn't a level field mean that the car owner was responsible for an almost impossible to pass vehicle inspection at three years of age (the car; not the driver :AH-HA_wink: ). And wouldn't that inspection include visual items like ding-less body panels and a bright shiny paint job.
  12. Back in the "day", they used to say that Saturn engineers were selected from those GM engineers who wore Birkenstock sandals. So were the Cadillac engineers those who happened to smoke a pipe and wear elbow patches on their tweed jackets?
  13. The google is your friend.
  14. If that bike is too thirsty, it can tow its own tanker
  15. 2007 HHR unlikely to need a car in the next two.
  16. 1. 1996 Sonoma. Bought new in 1997 and that's just one year short of your requirements. :AH-HA_wink: 2. probably not
  17. 1. 2006 Saturn ION-2 2. Too far to go to find a dealer and other GM alternatives are available 3. Previously had a 1994 SL2-MT
  18. 1. 1999 Grand Am GT 2. not really in the market for a new car, but if I were I would consider Pontiac. I jokingly told my Toyota son in law the best way to meet the hands free cell phone requirement starting in July is to buy a new Solstice with On Star. Previous Pontiacs 1949, 1954 Star Chieftain, and a 1973 Catalina (used).
  19. Toyota to Toyota: Shudda, coulda, wished we woudaa stayed with the T100.
  20. I'm absurd but you are not even internally consistent in one short post. GME is mediocre but the Corsa is infinitely superior. Frankly I am neither a fan nor foe of GME. However, I am a fan of common courtesy. I would add that these entities are not islands. In science and engineering information and expertise travels digitally and on something called paper too.
  21. Financial prospectuses always claim that past performance is no guarantee of future performance. More to the point is that the environment in the United States is quickly moving toward resembling that of Europe (high fuel prices). One could argue that is a strong determinant to success here now. That said, I think we are being too blasé about the significance of the 1.4 l engine for the new Deltas. While Toyota is replacing the 1.8 with the 2.4 L engine, and Ford and Dodge are bringing out large pickup trucks into a diminishing market, GM is moving forward.
  22. So do I! The problem is that my wife always adds the adjective "Senior" when describing them.
  23. That's not nice of you CARBIZ. It sounds like Duncan's dad is involved in his son's interests. Besides I like the Element too.
  24. I don't think China will continue as a bright spot for GM or any other auto maker. China is hit terribly hard by the dollar devaluation, and the increase in oil costs. There industry is a heavy user of energy and they have to import everything but coal. Their banking system is in shambles also. They have little animal husbandry and importing expensive meat is becoming a problem too.
  25. The U.S. government contributed to a well funded consortium of American manufacturers, Government agencies, and Universities until 2000-2001.
