Cruze does well in MT comparo test....
riviera74 replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in Chevrolet
The Cruze is second in the comparo to the Mazda3. Could anyone have seen this in the Cavalier or Cobalt era? GM has finally learned to build a small car import buyers might actually pay with their own money. I did not think that this could happen, especially given GM vs. small car history. -
GMC News: 2013 GMC Terrain Denali To Start At $34,525*
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in GMC Trucks
Has the Denali brand ever been value for the dollar upgrades? Sounds like GMC is telling every Denali buyer to pay $5000 more for a higher trim level that probably cost an extra $500 at the factory. Oh well.- 49 replies

I hope Caddy does not make the mistake of replacing the 3.6L with a 3.0L TT-V6. Having the twin turbo as an option is a better idea. Remember when the new SRX started with just a 3.0L? Bad idea. Once the 3.6L replaced that, all was right in SRX world.

Honda loses money on every Fit sold here...
riviera74 replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in Honda
After reading the original article, maybe Honda should not send any Fits here if they can make more $$ in Japan for the same car. Meanwhile, there are plenty of Sonics that will fill the gap. Win-Win. -
I think we need to relax (all of us, me included) until we can actually see one at a local Chevy dealership. Then we can either sing its praises or completely trash it on merit.

GM News: What's GM's Plan To Solve The MPG Problem With Trucks?
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
Lighter trucks and cars would be best, but that would cost $$$$$$. -
The only problem with that is that the perception of DOHC smoothness has been ingrained in the market's consciousness for about 30 years now. The 3900 may well be a better engine, but pushrod engines no longer sell outside of trucks. Gotta go with what the consumer wants, even if we know better.

Never Let a Stoner chic drive your car...
riviera74 replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in The Lounge
LiLo needs rehab and needs to quit drugs. DUI is still a bad idea after all these years. I saw that pic of the Porsche she was driving post-accident. She easily could have been killed. -
All traffic laws are state-by-state. If the USDOT had a model law for states to pass and implement, that would address the lack of uniform standards issue. Whatever happened to common sense anyways? Driving a car is a full-time job. No need to distract yourself with other things. If your email or texts are more important, take public transportation.

GM News: What's GM's Plan To Solve The MPG Problem With Trucks?
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
A GM version of an EcoBoost V6 in the trucks is mandatory. The free(ish) market has spoken. Full size pickup + turbo v6 = more profits and more sales. Diesels appropriate for the Colorado/Canyon as well as the Silverado/Sierra are great too. GM should NOT foreclose an opportunity to make more cash, even if the consumer is not 100% rational. -

Why Honda is in more trouble than you think...
riviera74 replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in The Lounge
Nobody saw GM heading to the troubles they had in 1992, much less BK in 2009. Indeed, if you told anybody in 1981 that GM would have those events happen in the next 30 years, you would have been laughed out of the room. -
GM needs to dump Europe because Europe has too many car brands and crashing car sales and that market is a massive drag on GM profits. The last thing GM needs now is a major market like the Eurozone to essentially implode and lead back to massive losses for GM. Chances are that the EU will implode because of all the debt crises they are struggling with right now. They may even boot out countries and that might doom the Euro. At best, that will lead to economic depression over there and the USA might be affected. Under normal circumstances, the weakest car brands would simply disappear or go bankrupt. The EU is not really allowing this for various reasons (such as very high unemployment and very strong unions). As of right now, GM needs profits and cash flow more than ever. BK and government loans will not be an option the next time all economic hell breaks loose. Since GM was able to dump dying brands, it has become much healthier as a going concern. That may not have been popular, but it worked. If you still believe GM needs a European presence, it should be radically scaled back right now. GM Europe is still losing large amounts of money, and that is unsustainable, period. Otherwise, GM will face the fate of Packard/Studebaker in 1963.

^QFT. Time to go home and rebuild the USA.

Industry News: Consumer Reports Calls High-MPG Compact Cars Bunk
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
Exactly my point, dfelt. Thanks. -
I suspect that the V6 alone will make the car cheaper to insure than the Hemi V8, regardless of trim level. I do not need a V8. I am not sure if I want one either. I ask the question of V6 vs. V8 because i was under the impression that the V8 may come with more desirable features than the V6. Is that true?
-
I presume you mean an inline six. What are the advantages of a BMW I6 compared to a GM V6 or (more likely) a small block V8?

CNG, What would it take to convert you and the rest of America?
riviera74 replied to G. David Felt's topic in The Lounge
If you really want to get the USA off of foreigh oil, convert at least the civilian fleet of vehicles (federal, state, and local) to CNG. While you're at it, get the US military to do the same (except when nuclear makes more sense). That way, at least our government can do its part to reduce our trade deficit and budget deficits. (Not to mention stop shipping cash to terrorist-friendly regimes in the Middle East!) -
Industry News: Consumer Reports Calls High-MPG Compact Cars Bunk
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
The Eco trim level uses LS-level interior bits rather than LT or LTZ-level interior bits. A Cruze Eco customer is paying an extra $800 for a couple MPG increase, but is then punished with an interior that is LS-level. Again, why would anyone buy that Cruze Eco? -
Since the STS and DTS are gone as of right now, the XTS will have its place. The CTS is a fundamentally different car from the XTS. More importantly, the XTS is not properly aiming at an E350 or an A6 or a 5-series because it makes no sense to cross-shop the XTS with those. Even though I like the XTS as what it is, it should still be the replacement for the Lucerne, not the DTS/STS (which needed to be scrapped because of poor sales). The real flagship will come in a couple of years. Sending Lucerne customers to Cadillac is probably a mistake. Then again, no Lucerne ever started at $45K. I do hope that the XTS interior finds its way to future CTS and ATS models, possibly for 2014/15.

Fiat News: Fiat Throws In The Towel On 2012 500 Abarth Orders

FIAT 500 unstoppable? -
Lexus as sporty? They will never be the Cadillac V-series, much less BMW or Audi. Some malaise: it's just confusion on image. Dear Lexus, cry me a river. Now Acura has a serious image issue, and Lincoln even more so (and Lincoln is already in a malaise).

Finding a Genesis sedan (for sale) is surprisingly hard where I live (SWFL), but I have seen at least 20 or so in the last year or so. The 300 is everywhere, and easily obtainable.
