  1. Ahhhh. Electric cars: completely flat torque curve with no need to shift into anything. Too bad they could not survive all that well in an angry winter (e.g. Detroit or Minneapolis). As for the Ford 500 (now the Taurus), I suspect that Ford found it cheaper to license GM for those 6ATs than pursue CVTs all alone. Of course, they could have called Nissan for those.
  2. How many people are going to come over from other automakers to Chevy just for this program?
  3. Merge Suzuki, Mazda and Mitsubishi? Uh, why? Who would run the place? Who would get fired? I have a better idea: at least two of the three should leave the US/Canada market since none of them have any significant impact here.
  4. It looks like GM is on a winning streak with nearly all of its models. Keep it up.
  5. Either that or a fully optioned Chrysler 300C with everything included. A fully optioned Lacrosse would be my third choice.
  6. How to go pear-shaped thanks to complacency, Acura edition.
  7. Challenge Ferrari? Cadillac?! Really? Seriously?! Call me in five years when Cadillac is making real money hand over fist and gaining market share from Lexus and the Germans. Then maybe I would consider a Cadillac supercar.
  8. If GM is bent on making midsize and fullsize cars on Epsilon II FWD, at least make EPII SWB 111.x inches and EPII LWB 115.x inches. Delta II needs the space, and so do most people once inside the car. The new cars need not be as long as a 2005 LeSabre/Park Avenue (200/207 inches), but at least make them not look like midsize cars. Contrast that with the crossovers and it is obvious what GM needs to do with the sedans, whether it is Buick or Chevy.
  9. Better yet, buy a LaCrosse or an CTS XTS instead.
  10. Who says that GM will use the Riviera name? They may be protecting that name just like they are trademarking the Electra name and the Invicta name. No guarantees here.
  11. I was under the impression that the speedo and the tach would look more like the new Civic. Either the words are inaccurate or the pics in Motor Trend are inaccurate. If the new Accord has the same instrument cluster as the new Civic, they will have made a mistake since no one has done a fully digital instrument cluster in 20 years. If you have been in those late 80s card that had one, you know why that is the case.
  12. While choice is obviously a good thing, I wonder how many of these wagons will be left on the dealer lots for weeks at a time. I am not sure if there is a market for these anymore.
  13. Caddy should crush Lincoln and Buick should crush Acura. The problem is is that a lot of Acura buyers still think it is 1995 in car years not 2012.
  14. If this were the '60s or the '70s, I would agree. But a Buick Electra that was a full electric not only makes sense, it is a no brainer. Targeting the Fisker or Tesla with a fully appointed Electra is essentially a great idea for whose time has come. It could completely update Buick's image in a way even the Enclave or Verano could not. Of course, that assumes there will be a new car with the Electra on the decklid.
  15. Even though I voted for the Cruze hatchback (given the competition), isn't the idea of a wagon the reason the market ditched them for minivans (since 1984) and crossovers (since ~1994)? I really do not see a need for wagons when the Equinox/Terrain/SRX and the upcoming Encore would fill in the needs of wagon buyers better.
  16. Small problem, Cubical: If GMC were to be terminated tomorrow, GMC buyers would buy FORD trucks, not Chevy trucks. That is the real reason GMC survived: too much profit on the table to say no. As for Cadillac, yes a flagship is required. The only problem is where the growth is for Cadillac. Europe is nearly impregnable thanks to the Germans (and to a lesser extent Jaguar/Land Rover). China is helpful, but the current government is bent on ensuring that nothing leaves there except exported product (rather than repatriated profits). Our current corporate tax code is of no help either on this regard. I doubt that Latin America will be a major source of growth since those markets seem to prefer either rugged trucks or relatively small cars (and the elites probably buy German anyways). So what is Cadillac to do to solve the real problem of sales growth outside of NA?
  17. Acura made its bed, and may it lie in it for all eternity. GM needs to crush Acura, preferably through Buick, if Acura insists on being this arrogant.
  18. That Madame Guillotine grill is turning people away from the brand. I see lower sales for this model because of its inherent ugliness, regardless of the merits that accompany the MDX.
  19. ZL-1, the only thing I would change is that the Cadillac XTS should be a second generation Lucerne, not necessarily the new LaCrosse. Some people do not want to pay Cadillac prices for this kind of car. I remember reading an old copy od C&D saying that one could buy a Park Avenue (say 2004-6) for a discount over the then Cadillac Deville and not miss all that much. I would rather have the new flagship for Caddy be here now, but we have to wait. As for the Verano Turbo, great news all around. It can be Buick's answer to the overrated TSX and whatever else directionless Acura can cough up beneath the TL/RL.
  20. It seems to me that the new XTS commercials I have seen in the last week or so emphasize CUE and the interior as opposed to any semblance of performance. Here are a few videos via YouTube for you to judge for yourself.
  21. Taking the lead is easier said than done. I hope that Cadillac CAN do just that, with the current models and future flagship.
  22. This car could stand to wait until the engine is actually ready. Akerson thought like a software executive, not a car executive. It is better to be a few months late with grade A product than be early with a C+ effort. Does he not know that first impressions are everything, especially in the hypercompetitive midsize segment?!
  23. Why pair the good motor with a base car? GM has to make more $$ per unit. This is not Honda where trim levels and engines are independent of each other.
  24. Why? I know that a twin turbocharged engine will have more HP and torque than a NA engine of the same size, but the 3.6L is a great V6 in its own right. What are the benefits of having a TTV6 that is a 3L over the NA 3.6L? Unless the engine ends up being a TTV6-3.6L.....
