  1. I agree with several of these suggested names. I have to wonder why Cadillac needs ELEVEN models, when six or seven will do just fine.
  2. I suspect that the only way trucks will ever reach 30 MPG with any consistency is that they abandon BOF and go straight to a unibody. No real truck person would want that though.
  3. Yes, it would be ideal for Cadillacs to actually have names again, but there is a reason for this. Names do not always translate globally. Think about it: China is a bigger luxury car market than the USA. A name for a model may not always work in that case. Moreover, NONE of the luxury marques use names on their models, and have not do so for a long time. Besides, the old names may not be the best way forward. What new names would you recommend instead?
  4. I do hope that the Volt actually does battle directly with the Tesla. A pure EV is better rather than that E-Rev powertrain they have. . . . . I think.
  5. I hope that GM has learned to avoid the mistakes of the last set of diesel cars from the late '70s. A lot of people became Toyota or VW buyers for that reason alone. Of course, there should be diesel options in as many types of vehicles as possible, if the demand is there.
  6. $20-22K to start? That is way too high. If GM were smart, these would start at about $15K so that no onw would think to buy a Silverado/Sierra instead. As for size, if mini-trucks are forthcoming very soon, then these prices might be justifiable.
  7. Or Nissan could really be smart and build them in the USA rather than Japan or Mexico. The Navara should be their all-out entry into the market. Decontenting feels like the customer is being cheated out of something.
  8. I hope so too. It is well past time GM shift straight into a pure EV to compete against Tesla rather than the Volt/ELR/Ampera set. An EV would be simpler to build and maintain than any hybrid.
  9. Sounds like what a lot of people have been waiting for. Who needs 50% market share when higher profits and better cash flow are the real name of the game? As for the car itself, this is really great. Now if only there were a 6cyl version to directly compete with the 300/Charger twins. . . . .
  10. I don't think they're interested in the 'only goes fast, handles like total ass' market. Handling is SO MUCH BETTER than it was back in the '60s and '70s. Handles like ass applies to a '69 Charger rather than this one.
  11. Everybody at GM is up, except for Chevy. Looking at the stats, I was wondering why Jaguar and VW were constantly advertising their cars. This answers that question. At least VW has Audi and Porsche to bouy profits even though VW sales are down by quite a percentage.
  12. You would have to primary everyone out first. Most primary challengers this year are losing to incumbents. Maybe in 2016...... The political system in our country is much more badly broken than GM. Of all the major things in our country, GM is one of the most effective and sanely run. I would say that Ford has been better run in the last 8 years than GM. Currently, what you said may well be true.
  13. And the only reason that is true is because the median price of new cars is north of $30K. If the median price were $20K, fewer people would be squeezed in their wallets and resort to the used car market.
  14. The recall Annus Horribilis continues. I hope that this will make next year a lot less recall heavy than right now.
  15. Any reason why there is a Patriot AND a Compass? Maybe ditching one for the other might address the confusion issues. Also, $27K for that?! Pass.
  16. The car itself needs to be saved AND be put into service as a direct competitor to the 300/Charger twins. (I know that the Chevy SS exists, but that is a 300 SRT8 competitor only.) An upmarket version should be available as an Equus, if not 7/S-Class/LS, fighter for Cadillac. Other than sites like this one and car magazines, I have never heard of a Commodore. The name can retire, but the car must be saved.
  17. I still am not sure why Cadillac is trying to break into a market essentially sealed shut by the Germans. This is not the USA of 1971, where competition was actually welcomed. Europeans are extremely brand loyal and nationalistic in their car purchases. Moreover, the eurozone is an economic shambles. Cadillac should greatly focus on the USA and east Asia (i.e. China) instead of the failing Old Continent.
  18. You would have to primary everyone out first. Most primary challengers this year are losing to incumbents. Maybe in 2016......
  19. I like the idea that this Nissan provided. Now all NYC needs is some competition to lower prices and ultimately replace all of those old and obsolete Crown Victorias that now populate the NYC taxi fleet. Is it just me, or are those wheels/tires look way too small for that vehicle?
  20. I have never figured out why anyone would buy a Fiat 500 here in the first place. I suppose you could say that about the USA lineup in Europe. GM has already slashed its car brand name lineup some years back, and FIAT has more than GM ever had right now. Then again, I do not think that Sergio has fully figured out what to do with each and every brand at all. Once he does, then FCA will become a lot more cohesive and more profitable in a few years. But Sergio needs to figure this out sooner rather than later. AFAICT, the only melding of FIAT into anything Chrysler is a FIAT 500 in the USA and the Dodge Dart. Who buys either of those?
  21. The recall annus horribilis continues. . . . .
  22. As for the victims of the ignition switch recall, check this out: http://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2014/06/gm-preparing-to-settle-with-ignition-switch-victims/
  23. Odd day for a due date, given that July 4th is a national holiday and NOBODY will be there to collect the fine. Better push it back to Thursday July 3rd.
  24. Too bad I had to replace the 99 Park Avenue Ultra for the 08 Lucerne. I really like the Lucerne, admittedly more than the PA. Then again, I will probably hang onto the Lucerne for at least 5-7 years. If today's new cars were priced as if it was 1980, then the average age of cars would drop like a stone. Reliability and cheaper/easier to fix are the best reasons to hang onto older models.
  25. Yes, the Genesis is a BIG CAR. The Equus is meant to take on the S-Class (albeit not that well). Then again, the Genesis does compare very favorably to the large FWD luxury sedans these days. One Q: are the Genesis sedan and the 300/Charger twins competitors, or are the twins in a totally different market?
