  1. Just like there is no demand for coupes, there is no demand for hatchbacks. The 1980s are truly over. (More expensive) Crossovers for everyone!
  2. VW is owned by Lower Saxony, a German Lander (similar to that of a province or a US state). VW will not be allowed to die. Daimler or BMW are far more likely to disappear since those two automakers are not owned by a state government.
  3. It's still a pickup truck, not a BMW 7 series. Chances are that Cadillac and (perhaps) Lincoln will do well here, given the parentage of both.
  4. I suspect that GM will build whatever form of electric vehicle that will sell. The platforms are more important since they can theoretically switch from sedan to crossover to minivan with just a body switch at relatively low cost.
  5. Maybe they don't have a plan. Who really knows?
  6. Are you suggesting that GM move all Equinox and Terrain production to Mexico and simply shutter this assembly plant?
  7. WTF happened to Cadillac and especially Buick sales? Chevy and GMC sales were the only things that allowed GM to avoid the sales slump affecting Ford and devouring FCA. Ironically Alfa Romeo and Maserati were up by large percentages (from a low base) while Dodge and RAM were down slightly and FIAT, Jeep and especially Chrysler were pummeled.
  8. GMC is doing fine with the crossovers out now. A subcompact crossover is a good idea as long as it does not take away from Buick Encore sales. As for a real BOF SUV, do you really want GMC to become Jeep?
  9. Cadillac needs the XT7 and XT3 (think Encore and Enclave sized) STAT!
  10. I do not see RAM having a post-FCA future. Jeep will almost certainly survive and possibly even thrive without all the corporate baggage.
  11. Too bad the Avalanche did not sell as well as it could have been. A mid-sized version is a great idea though.
  12. I get where you are coming from on this. Then again, I had to watch Oldsmobile get killed in 2004. Thanks for the sentiment. I just do not see a real future for any of (the former) Chrysler Corporation brands given Sergio.
  13. This new naming system completely and totally SUCKS! Who thought this was a good idea? EPIC FAIL!
  14. No. They should simply end Dodge and save Chrysler instead. The Charger and Challenger are very similar to the 300; the Dart is an abject failure in the marketplace; all their trucks are now RAM trucks; and the Journey can be a Chrysler right now (if it wasn't so pathetic).
  15. Sergio despises what used to be Chrysler Corporation and apparently the board loves everything FIAT/Alfa Romeo. That is why Chryco product has been starved of great interiors and better product for most of this decade. What is really sad is that this may well have been a deserved fate since 1978 when Lee iacocca took over Chrysler and got the federal government to give out loan guarantees to save the firm. Ever since then (especially since 1998), Chrysler has always been on borrowed time. Chrysler deserves a dignified funeral instead of the fate of being Sergio's abused whore.
  16. Warning: the Ridgeline is not half the truck a Colorado/Canyon are, let along a Silverado/Sierra. If Hyundai wants to build a midsize pickup truck, they need to build something superior to what is on the market now. Normally Hyundai builds a vehicle and initially sells it at a discount, and then the second generation is the significant leap. We will see if they actually succeed.
  17. Slow down man. If the birthrate falls too low, you end up with Europe's or Japan's situation: too few babies to support an increasingly aging population.
  18. Do you want a V12 with that new M5? This is BMW, not Rolls-Royce.
  19. Repeat after me: Sergio does not give a damn about US brands, and he never will. FIAT is everything; Chrysler is nothing to him.
  20. Given a shrinking European car market, I am not sure why anyone would participate and pay a LOT of money to show off in Frankfurt. Now Beijing on the other hand. . . . . . .
  21. Dear GM: What is your answer to this vehicle? Moreover, when can we buy one?
  22. I wish that the Chinese would just simply buy FCA or merge with FCA. One: Sergio would be fired almost immediately. Two: the Chinese can do what no one else can do, which is to rationalize the US car market. There is little to no real reason to buy MOST Chryco products not named Jeep (except for the minivans). Ram is easily eclipsed by the F-series and the Silverado/Sierra twins. Most Chrysler and Dodge cars are second rate at best compared to the competition. Most things FIAT are basically lame and irrelevant in this marketplace. Alfa Romeo is irrelevant here too. I do not care who picks up FCA; I just care that FCA disappears into the ether (if that happens).
  23. What else is new? The South has been getting nearly all the new plants since the 1980s because of cheap labor and big tax breaks. If only states and localities stopped this economically insane race to the bottom, then maybe auto companies (and pro sports teams!) would stop expecting the corporate equivalent of an unearned free lunch.
