The HP numbers switched from SAE gross to SAE net in 1972. That explains the drop in HP numbers.

Gotta like that new MB dash and infotainment setup. Really classy. Also encouraged that MB is returning to an I6 engine after a 20 year hiatus. One question: so when will GM give Cadillac an I6 worthy of the marque? And upgrade CUE as well? Remember when GM had torquey V6 engines and now the 3.6 is rather weak on torque? Bring back a (smaller) Atlas 4200 I6 please.

But thanks to the VW and FCA diesel debacles, all European makes are switching to EVs instead. Welcome to 2018 not 1998 or 1978.

Sounds like the Camaro needs a brand new model rather than just an MCE, just on looks and trunk space alone. As for the 4cyl, that is the reality that we live in if they want higher Camaro sales. Back in the F-body days, the majority of Camaro and Firebird sales were V6 models, not the faster and hairier V8 models. The Mustang had the exact same sales mix. Apparently, not much as changed in 50 years.

Best time for an IPO is usually long before a market downturn, at least one year. One other thing: Geely may not take Volvo public for regulatory reasons too if they want to list in the US or Europe or Japan/Hong Kong/Singapore.

Genesis News: Genesis Plans On Making Essentia Concept A Reality
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in Genesis
Why would anyone buy an Azera when they can get an Avalon or a Lacrosse and end up with a better car?! Back to this new Genesis: SMK4565 has a point. Genesis needs a CUV or two to really make inroads in the luxury market these days. One of them should be based on this EV concept.- 7 replies

Chevrolet News:Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Becomes Burlier With Bison

Two questions: One: When will they build a Silverado and/or a Tahoe version of this truck? Two: What is that gray pipe jutting out of the front passenger side quarter panel? -

VW News: 2019 Volkswagen Golf Downsizes Its Engine

CAFE has been the wrong approach to fuel efficiency since it was first made law back in 1975. Better to let customers buy what they want/need and let them deal with the consequences of their purchase, especially if gas/diesel prices spike again. -
VW News: 2019 Volkswagen Golf Downsizes Its Engine
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in Volkswagen
The Golf does not have a CAFE problem. The real issue is that VW and Audi are selling a lot of crossovers that use turbo 4cyl engines (and a few V6es too). Remember that CAFE is based on what cars you sell and how many. Hence why Honda can sell CAFE credits to FCA because of their respective product mixes and sales of those product mixes. -
OK. Who rents out small cars like the Cruze anyway? I'd rather rent out an Impala any day of the week.

Industry News: Mahindra Fights Back Against FCA's Complaint
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in Industry News
All of you assume that the Roxor will always be off-road and NEVER street legal. Mahindra could modify the Roxor to be street legal and take on the Wrangler one day. It may sound pedantic, but FCA is right to defend its trademarks against all comers.- 13 replies

Europe especially needs to consolidate. That market is shrinking as we speak. China will have a recession where some automakers will pull out or die. Survival of the fittest in action.

Too bad Cadillac will NOT do that here. Too many complaints from certain groups.

How petty and vindictive. Poor Elon Musk (NOT). Musk whines and wants to do something because somebody disagrees with his vision and are actively shorting Tesla shares. He failed to look at all alternatives to going private and declared that Tesla should be private without considering ALL the consequences. And only after much ridicule and a possible SEC investigation, he quietly withdraws his proposal to go private. I do hope other billionaires learn a valuable lesson from this: just because you are a billionaire does not make you divine or omnipotent.

There is always a letdown from concept to production. Some letdowns are steeper than others. Unfortunately it does happen a lot throughout the industry. -

Hyundai News:2019 Hyundai Kona Electric Has A 258 Mile Range
riviera74 replied to William Maley's topic in Hyundai
Maybe Chevy should build a Trax EV and an Equinox EV along with the Bolt. -
It would take some balls for the new CEO to simply dump European production for US production. In some cases, some automakers build in (somewhat cheaper) Central Europe, but it would be better to simply ditch European production entirely.
