  1. Expand or Die is a cardinal rule of capitalism itself. Sometimes it is better to stick with what you are good at. Ford apparently understands this. With Mary Barra, GM seems to get this too.
  2. Love the suicide doors. I wonder how they would work on a crossover, such as their new CUVs that are coming out now.
  3. According to Wikipedia, the SSR only sold about 24K vehicles the entire time it was available for sale (2003-06).
  4. I need to see what else comes out of this in March. This is at best a partial victory.
  5. Buick needs to seriously upgrade the Envision soon. Acura needs to address their infotainment issues.
  6. Just have Cadillac Korea do all the marketing instead. GM USA marketing is lame.

  10. Cheap CUVs will not happen because that is where the demand is these days. CUVs are the reason the average selling price (for new cars) hovers around $35K right now.
  11. Toyota makes relatively few Tundras compared to demand for them, hence the high resale value. Ditto for Tacoma. Toyota knows that the RAV4 and the Venza and Highlander are rolling in sales and profits, right? They can slash Camry and Yaris and Corolla production and make more $$$$ right now if they wanted to. RAV4 is the highest-selling (non-BOF) vehicle on the road right now.

  14. When it comes to EVs, infrastructure is a real issue. Only Tesla seems to have put much thought into charging infrastructure.
  15. An EV will not work for a lot of people right now. But in 2030, who knows? Uber and Lyft may replace private car ownership in a lot of large dense cities by then. Where I live, not necessarily.

  18. Maybe because GM and Ford are not part of very large conglomerates, well-shielded from imports in the domestic market. It is easy to forget that Hyundai/KIA are part of a larger Korean chaebol that can push something to the nth degree because Hyundai is SO WELL protected at home and is a larger conglomerate than GM ever was (even in the 1950s). In Korea, Hyundai makes all sorts of consumer products that GM has not made since GM sold off Frigidaire years ago. Some Koreans are very loyal to Hyundai or Samsung or LG back in South Korea. Because of that (Japan has this too), it is very easy to take on risks that a smaller, less diversified corporation like GM or Ford simply do not take.
  19. You also have to remember that GM and Ford are much larger than Chrysler ever was. GM should call FCA and sell them an idled factory after FCA gets this one converted.
  20. France would be wise to privatize Renault stat.
  21. Lordstown is scared because of what happened to Youngstown back in 1977. Youngstown never fully recovered from the loss of six steel mills.
  22. Wise decision. Save the hybrids for Chrysler cars and minivans.
  23. Actually, it is worse than that. It seems that Millennials would rather live in cities and take public transportation instead of driving a car. If you look at who is buying (or leasing) CUVs, most buyers are past 40 not under 25.
  24. The idea is sound; but using GT for an Aviator PHEV is a non-starter. Try something that actually says or implies "environmentally friendly".
